Hi Grandma and Grampa, I love when you post depression meals, I watch great depression cooking with Clara also, I've mentioned her to you in one of your videos, I love to have recipes with fresh vegetables that you grow yourself especially tomatoes, there is nothing so good as a tomato sandwich with a juicy, ripe tomato and some mayonnaise, my. mother, who was Italian, used to have a meal that her mother made for them when my mother was young with tomatoes cut up in a bowl with olive oil, garlic powder, basil and oregano, she told me they would have that for dinner sometimes with bread that my grandmother made, they would dip the bread in the oil mixture while eating, I've made it a few times and it's really delicious, thank you for all of your recipes, love to you, Grandpa and the kitty's ❤

That blue bowl in the breakfast shot...my mother had those dishes. She got them with Green Stamps in the early Sixties. I still have some of them.

I make frittatas all the time. One of my favorite cheap meals is to boil a chicken breast and cut it up and sprinkle it over a garden salad.

My Parents and Grandparents grew up during the great depression. I only remember the stories they told me when I was growing up. My Mom would make the meals they had during the Great Depression to save some money. Good luck making the recipes. I am sure they will come just fine❤️👩🏻

Growing up my family grew or raised all our food. Had almost any kind of fruit, vegetables, nuts, cow's for milk 😝 & meat. What my family didn't grow my uncle did. We all shared back and forth. We shared with them and they shared with us.

My grandma was 15 when the stock market crashed in "29. She used to regale us with stories but the one that sticks in my mind the most is that they would sometimes spread lard......LARD on white bread and sprinkle it with salt and pepper and have that with cabbage, onion, and carrot soup for dinner.

We can learn a lot from habits of the depression era. Gardens, fruit trees, fishing. and chickens were so important to eating cheap and healthy. Did they bake their own bread?

The frittata recipe - You can pour the mixture into a greased muffin pan (large muffins ie) and bake, then pop out the frittata muffins and serve one or two per person, then any leftovers can go in the fridge for later, warmed in the microwave or the regular oven. Works for any frittata recipe, and it's tasty just the same. :) Very handy when working, home or away.

I LOVE that you both are doing this ! This is going to come in handy for many because what they are doing our country in the White House is disgraceful and terrible and I was at Publix yesterday and had to pay $18 for four small beef county spare ribs and they are not a good cut of beef but I spoon them in the crock pot. Is the garden veggies free though? Fertilizer, etc. I tend to factor those into cost
We do not use any type of fertilizer in our garden. We have no problem growing everything without fertilizer. We do save egg shells, potato peels etc to use in our garden soil. Thank you for watching 👩🏻

I buy a dozen eggs at LiDL. They just increased the price from 48 cents to 63 cents a dozen👩🏻
