A blessing of forgiveness only works if you are giving up the sin your are asking to be forgiven. So, if same sex couples come for blessings, do they then intend to correct their sin? If not, what was the point? You don't ask for forgiveness of a sin you intend to keep on doing. Living in a perpetual state of sin/forgive does not work as there is absolutely no intent to follow the scriptures and correct the issue. All they really want is to feel good about themselves. Way too many preachers do that for $$$ and instill no sense of correction. Faith without works is dead.

There is a difference between blessing same sex persons and same sex unions, and between blessing a person in an irregular union and blessing that irregular union. Or, to put it more bluntly, there is a difference between blessing a sinner and blessing sin. And since we are all sinners and all needs God's blessing, what's the problem?
Read the actual document. It emphasises that it “remains firm on the traditional doctrine of the church about marriage”. It states that any such blessing must not “somehow offer a form of moral legitimacy to a union that either presumes to be a marriage or to an extra-marital sexual practice”. Such blessings are to be spontaneous and not take the form of an official ritual, and not tied to any secular marriage ceremony. Furthermore, a blessing is not a sanctioning, it is an invocation of God's mercy and love. It literally means "to speak a good word" bene (good) dictus (speak); and it from God not from men. God blesses, "speaks a good word", over us in order to bring us into a better place, a "state of grace".

I need my sins washed away by the blood. I don't need a man to wave his powerless hand in front of me in some hocus pocus routine to bless my stinking sin. I need a God to save me, not a man to leave me in my filth, empty and alone. The Vatican scholars are some of the most knowledgable AND competent word smiths in the world today. If they wanted to be clear, an educated 6th grader could have written this clearly. But they did not want clarity and here's why.
Contradictions (planting confusion) in the language is NOT an accident. The best of liars preface lies with talking out of both sides of their mouths. This lends itself to an acceptable defense no matter which side questions them. Then they'll say, "There is no confusion in what we said. We are very clear AND IF ANYONE TOOK IT wrongly we appologize."
After confusion and a denied contradiction comes the lie. "We are not blessing the SIN, we hope and pray the couple will stop their life of sin. So we bless them (with fingers crossed behind our backs) and this MUST be done.".
Instead of: We ask them to REPENT and CONFESS their sins and be saved. (John the Baptist), When I ask a priest to bless something unusual he asks, "What is this, my son?" "Oh It's a rock from Assisi my son gave me." And he blesses it. The question and acceptance or rejection must be determned before a blessing is given if it is unknown what is being blessed. "ie "What is this my son?" "Oh its a satanic pendant my neighbor gave me." "Oh I cannot bless that. This is representative of a grave Sin.
