I've gotten really into solo actual plays ever since I discovered "me myself and die". I love what you're doing here!
This is really entertaining, it's useful to see how you solo play. It's quick, to the point and really helps me get my head around how to do it. Great work.
agreed, the speed and clarity is really helpful
Wow, I love the production values at work here, as well as the contained but evocative scenes you are creating with the miniatures and the set dressing. Off to see how many more episodes you have managed to put up following this now month old first episode.
Love the effort you took to make this engaging
Thank you very much, I'm glad the effort hasn't gone unnoticed! I wanted to make the thing that I would want to watch.
I hope this series continues. You have a solid reading voice and your pacing is ideal for the tone of the adventure. I'm pretty neutral when it comes to ambient BGM and Audio F/X but it's a nice touch.
I haven't played or even browsed the quickstart for SD but I know Ironsworn and Knave and have used both in different settings and even a prewritten adventure. Solo isn't just about not having a ready group or even getting to play as the ubiquitous 'Forever GM'. It's a great way to test run a setting, adventure or mechanics. It's fun to throw dice and let chance be the guide and it's just good to spend some 'me time' now and then. I mean, not many people are going to interrupt someone playing a solo game the way they will if you were reading a book or just relaxing, sketching up your next adventure, story or art piece on a cafe' patio with a coffee...uh..yeah that was oddly specific, but you get it.
Great example of solo play. Thank you for this and for showing off Shadowdark as I’ve not seen an actual play of this before.
This was so much fun! Looking forward to the next one.
(Observation: though I enjoyed the BGM, in some parts it was loud enough to distract me from hearing you).
I noticed that as well. Everything sounded fine when I was editing it. But, after I uploaded it and listened to it on my phone I noticed some levels were a little high.
I will definitely be paying closer attention to that in the next episode.
One thing to remember when editing and mixing your audio, check the audio in both Mono and Stereo. If your editing software is set up one way, it often won't sound right if played on the opposite. Another possibility is if your editing software was set up in stereo/mono, but it tried to export or compress the files into the opposite, this could cause issues as well. Hopefully what I'm explaining is clear. Good luck!
Very well done, the music, the set-up, everything. Liked and subbed👍
This is an awesome idea and play through. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Well done! I really appreciate your pace. Thank you for taking the time to make it such a professional production.
Thanks! I'm not sure if Professional is the right word. But, I try my best! 😎👍
I'm into this already, and I'm interested to see more Shadowdark. You got yourself a sub!!
Off to an interesting start! I'm concerned that their new objective may be too much for a 1st level party... How frequently do you plan to post new episodes?
I will definitely have to do a little leveling before I face the Vampire lord himself.
As far as this series goes, I'm planning to have a new episode every two weeks.
A really good demonstration of how to solo an RPG without an over amount of fluff.
Great content! I’m interested in the blank gridded hexmap and character sheets you’re using…your own design or a purchase you’ve made? Willing to share links or files?! Keep up the great work!❤
Sure, I can share. I'll have to figure out a way to share my Homebrew resources. Maybe a Patron or an Itch.io page.
I made a community post on my channel page with the links to both resources
@@mattslaton quick work, thank you so much!!!
This is great!
I love this already.
Nice! 👍 Subscribed 😁
Nice done Matt. I'm about tô start a Isle of Dread table in upcoming few months using ShadowDark with OSE . What are the OSE rules you are using ?
I wanted to keep it handy for the Terrain Encounter tables. I haven't used them for anything just yet.
I love this
Just stated and a bit late to the party, but that was really good and entertaining 👍
Looking forward to a full series!
For the initial paragraphs of the story, I’m presuming you rolled on the Shadowdark book’s tables and made a few lines based on the results? Or did you use a different supplement? Really inspiring video, I’ve been playing some purely solo systems but now I’m considering playing the transformers roleplaying game using your oracle rules.
I put it together based on the backgrounds that I rolled for my characters. I knew the type of region I wanted the adventure to take place in. So, I took all that information and figured out how to put my characters in a situation where they would be forced to work together and form a. Party.
@@mattslaton thank you!
Fun so far and idea provoking. New sub incoming.
What book is that you are using with the Rumors and Adventures tables sections? From what I could tell the only hardbacks you said you were using were Shadowdark which it doesn't look like the same layout of that book and OSE and I don't see those tables in my OSE books.
It is the ShadowDark RPG pg 120.
@@mattslatonThanks. It looked different format to the parts of the book I have seen so far. One thing that does puzzle me is why did you feel the need to include an OSE book in the playthrough? I own OSE and was interested in Shadowdark but seeing someone feel the need to use OSE books with it has put me off a bit to be honest.
I wanted to have it handy for the Terrain specific Random encounter tables. There is a chance that I may not even use the book. Only time will tell. @timb7583
