@@gilbertgarcia69originally a fast food job was simply a stepping stone in life while in high school school or college as it was for me. It was never intended to be a career job. The business model was fast, inexpensive food and part of that is to keep cost low including labor. Now people are trying to make a career out of it because they lack education or job skills so they are doing this job well into adulthood. Part of this is due to changing demographics. I predict the price of fast food getting so expensive most will stop buying it which will be good for health but will eliminate many jobs. I ran a restaurant while going to college along with my wife. I can tell you the profit margins are very thin, owners are not getting as rich as you think. Restaurants have the highest failure rate of any other business. The restaurant was a great stepping stone for the both my wife and I while we finished college and obtained our career jobs. I would never imagined trying to make a career and buying a house, etc. from a restaurant job. Times have changed…..

People can choose to work somewhere else. build yourself and go somewhere where you can get paid more. it doesn't have to be fast food. this is going to make the cost of living go up for everyone. if you think you can live off a 4 dollar increase i don't think you are thinking about other expenses going up. this is a joke.

Whatever this guy does when his pay is increased will be added on to whatever he produces and so on & on until it works its way back around to where this single mom will need another wage increase because she still can't afford anything. I cannot confirm how many employees they have. But let says they have 30 employees x $16/hr x 40 hours = $1 million in payroll. Raising minimum wage by 20% = increase $200k in payroll. Costs are up at fast food restaurants because commodity prices are through the roof. Food stuffs cost more today than they did even 2 years ago.

All of the benefits go to the state, and federal government with increased tax incomes from income tax, and sales tax all across the board. This will eventually drive out more people and businesses. California is caught in a bankruptcy spiral where it can no longer control its economic woes. This also benefits the unions and labor controls. It amazes me that we don't provide gradual 3% annual minimum wage increases like many other countries. With that said, fast food is also not meant to be a life-long career. Duh...

    • @spongeintheshoe

No job is meant to be a career, because jobs don’t exist to give employees a way to earn money. Employers hire people when and if they need labor, and there’s no guarantee that that ned will match employees’ need for work.

Maybe that lady wouldn't be homeless if she didn't have 7 mouths to feed. Where are the fathers of these kids? Which brings us right back to personal responsibility....
