I’ve prepared myself for the fact he might not win a world championship but he is proof that you don’t have to do that to become an F1 favourite. The main reason he is in F1 is quite simple, he just enjoys it and the various journeys an F1 driver can have. His out there personality and gutsy style of racing will still endear long after he’s retired. Danny Ric, you make F1 better by simply being there. Thank you, sir.

And here is a more total look over 2017-2018
In 2017 the qualifying battle was 10-6 in favor of Verstappen. He was on average 0.15s faster than Ricciardo.
In 2018 the qualifying battle was 10-3 in favor of Verstappen. He was on average 0.183s faster than Ricciardo.
The final points were Verstappen 608 - Ricciardo 590. That's the total from Spain 2016 till the end of 2018.
Verstappen had 13 retirements (8 of them were mechanical) while Ricciardo had 14 (11 of them were mechanical). There are only 33 races in which both of them finished. If we only count the scores from those then it's Verstappen 435 - Ricciardo 422.
In the races they both finished in 2017 it was Verstappen 5 - Ricciardo 2. Verstappen lost in the points tally that year, but his DNFs cost him more than Ricciardo's. He was in front of Ricciardo more often than not when he DNFed. You can read some interesting analysis about that here and here.
In the races they both finished in 2018 it was Verstappen 8 - Ricciardo 3. As soon as Verstappen cleaned up his act after Monaco Ricciardo never finished in front of him when they both finished. I know Ricciardo had a lot of Mechanical DNFs that year but he was behind Verstappen when those happened more often than not.
In the end the total tally across all three seasons was:
      Verstappen 608 - Ricciardo 590 points
Verstappen 435 - Ricciardo 422 points in races they both finished
      Verstappen 26 - Ricciardo 20 in qualifying
