If you think sedan sales are down, 2-door coupes should be on the endangered species list. Fortunately, Mercedes-Benz has a wide variety of 2-doors for people who want the intimacy of a true coupe (not the 4-door kind). The E 450 has received a significant refresh for 2021 and it’s way beyond some sheet metal tweaks. The standard engine is now a turbocharged inline-6 cylinder with EQ Boost (aka a mild hybrid system). This is the engine the E Class deserves. And the interior is lovely because, well, it’s a Mercedes. Tom Voelk checks out a well-equipped 4MATIC model. A CORRECTION- The base price for a rear drive E 450 Coupe is $66,000 with delivery, not 70K as stated in the video.

I love the E class Mercedes. The C is a bit small, the S is too expensive, the E is just right. This coupé is beautiful. Excellent review Tom.
Agreed, E class coupe is the sweet spot.
True!
S is too large. More like a limousine
Agreed! E is the sweet spot!
A CORRECTION- The base price for a rear drive E 450 Coupe is $66,000 with delivery, not 70K as stated in the video. I took a figure from a 4MATIC AMG Line mistakenly. Thanks @UCby_EKFjabVVokmD4AnyL6w
This would never be “my” automobile, but the review presentation is always worth a LIKE.
best looking interior than any other car I have seen
I've already driven the new E-Class Coupé 15,000 kilometers. The quality is outstanding. And it's driving fun too. Also on the autobahn here in Germany. 😎 - I would get this car again in a heartbeat. ☺️
This is so refreshing! It's rare to see coupes review nowadays. Especially the new e class coupe. Great reviews and footage old dude
Very well done, Tom. As usual. Excellent commentary, complemented by your high-quality videography.
Another great review, thanks Tom... and thanks Rob. I'm sure this was well worth the day off. Keep 'em coming!
Great Review Tom. Thank You Rob for the driving footage.
Wife and I just ordered our 2022 E450 4MATIC Cabriolet fully loaded. Cant wait! Great video. We live on Whidbey Island.
I like how you fit in comments about the lack of “b” pillars and the long doors to fill out your review. Good job. If you ever need a fun fact about Mercedes bring up the Unimog.
Your videos go straight to the information and details about the car. I like that. Nice video and what a great car!
Hey Tom! I really liked your review. I always loved coupés. To me, they are just so much more elegant and luxurious than sedans - not to mention Station wagons and 4*4s. Hence, after thoughtful consideration I treated myself with an E 450 AMG 4 matic coupé yesterday. Do opt for the panoramic roof, the large displays and the air suspension. Here in Europe we love the AMG line mainly due to the design. They make up the bulk of the sales. Your comments helped me digesting the negative attitude of my female friend ... she just loves SUVs and 4*4s.Keep up the great work! Greetings from Switzerland.
A great cockpit, one of the best I've seen.
Boy I love your commentaries. I also love savagegeese. Yours is very thoughtful and fundamentally appeals to the souls of people who love cars.
Great video, top narration and details. I like that you speak about things that many others overlook. Good b roll. Subscribed.
This and the discussion of space makes me wish and hope for the Tom V annual 'best wagon and best hatch' video. This reviewer gets it.
Tom, your reviews are as good as it gets. And your camera work is beautiful. Much appreciated.
Much appreciated!
The sweeping curve of the dash - handsome interior. You could win bets with that trunk hook.
Really really good , I like the green , yellow, and red light points. Also, keep up the good quality of these videos.
I really enjoy your reviews Tom. You always do a splendid job!
Love my E350 coupe (2014) when time comes i ll be more than happy to get the E450.
YES, Tom! A coupe has 2-doors. Period.
Calling a sedan or SUV a "coupe" is apparently totally fine in the automotive industry, now.
Maybe I'll start calling my VW Sportwagen a "Sportcoupe"?
If we're going to let people mispronounce coupe so willy nilly might as well make the definition optional too.
Great review Tom. Good going!
Great video of the Mercedes-Benz coupe thanks to both
I like your style. Keep up the great work
Fist video from you that I see. Good quality both for video and sound and very informative, too.
Another great review (thank you Tom and Rob!), I'm sorry to see these elegant coupes pushed aside by hulking SUV's.
Lovely review, just like always! Cheers from Switzerland
Just got mine I love it 💪🏾
Fantastic review Tom. I love coupes, and Benz do them well. E class coupe is a stunner, and there is decent room in the back seat area, for the occasional passengers. The AMG E53 Coupe is a great car. Much more sporty.. 🚗 💥 💨
Great writing and editing per usual Tom and team. Keep up the quality content and the subs will follow soon behind. More station wagons with manual transmissions please!!
You forgot diesel. And brown.
What a great car. As soon as the ink on my 3-year, no-cut, $50MM contract with the Yankees dries, I'm going to get one. In other words, I'll stay pat with my '14 X3. But, wow, nice car and great review -- as always.
I have the 2018 E400 4matic version of this in black. It really is outstanding a little over one year into ownership.
Enjoy Chris!
Adaptive Cruise and Lane keep assist not being standard is pretty crazy, at this point.
And fog lights
just perfect that these two options are not standard. For some people (like me) these options are a burden. Mercedes kept some traces of a premium brand - freedome to choose.
@@vitalyromas6752 Seatbelts are a burden for me. Too bad MB couldn't apply your "Premium brand freedom" logic to that.
If you need lane keep assist you shouldn't be behind the wheel of a vehicle
@@Therango32 don’t need it, but it’s a great help.
Nice job guys… very professional and honest.
Awesome video
You always pick the best colors, right on
What a gorgeous automobile! I share a distaste for referring to 4 door vehicles as "coupes." True coupes are the high maintenance girlfriends of the automotive world. So what if they're inconvenient. Their beauty compensates for all the effort required. And the E450 is the supermodel of the genre. Your wife doesn't like the large heavy door of the Mercedes? Obviously, she should never have to open or close her own door. That's your job or that of a valet.
As I've noted in other videos I watch this channel in part to see the familiar roads east of Seattle that I miss after moving away. That "Road Closed" sign at the beginning of the video has been in place for years. As I recall the road was initially blocked after one of the "500 year floods" in the area that come along every five years, or so. I wonder if it will ever be reopened.
As always, a great review. With a daughter soon to be off to college I won't be visiting my local MB dealer to buy one but the eye candy alone is worth the thumb up. :)
It could be any 2-door for her (other than my Miata with very small light doors). My ELR has long heavy doors.
@@DrivenCarReviews It's obvious that your wife has many compensating qualities. :)
Great review on a great car!
Ugh Tom. You made me want to buy an e450 coupe. Lol. Solid review as always.
You'd look good in one
Also, thanks Rob for helping with the footage!
Thank God someone still makes coupes! I am not a fan of this SUV trend!
Thinking and feeling the exact thing. Sick of SUV's.

Nobody makes cars for fun anymore. The bottom line is they want to make a dollar.
@@adriancooper78 That's always been the case. No dollars, no cars.
@@DrivenCarReviews
Indeed Tom, indeed. I was looking at the new Corvette online as a Halo car for my retirement. I know my wife would kill me. Hopefully if things work out I'll get myself a nice used luxury Sedan.
@@adriancooper78 agree, I just don’t like it. Perhaps I am getting old and I am stuck in the past. But I assure you that no SUV can corner like a well-balanced coupé! :)
nice review
You do good work, your subscriptions will grow eventually
You always do a good job Tom!
I try
BEST INTRO SO FAR !!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the spare tire comments. Cuts down on the appeal of the E Class as a road trip vehicle.
I agree. Being forced to buy one aftermarket is just stupid.
When was the last time you had to change a tire, though? It’s been about 4-5 years for me.
@@ToddLloyd About 4 years ago, though I happen to be in Canada on a Sunday. No tire repair stores open. With the spare installed, I will able to still get around a do local trips. With no spare, I would have been done until I had the new tire installed or the old one fixed. Not good.
thank you Rob and thanks as always Tom great review.... I do like coupes my first car was a civic coupe not a mercedes but it's what i could afford 😏 my dream coupe is a 911 with a manual 😍
A perfect coupe for today's Casanova, it's a lover not a fighter Great review
Love the instrument panel. It's so much better than the S-Class and yes, this lady is built for a relaxed driving style. The power is there, no need to trash this car like a hot hatchback. The persona of this luxury cruiser suits me like a glove.
Gotta get my guy subscribers up. He does the best new reviews
A coupé is a passenger car with a sloping or truncated rear roofline and two doors and was first applied to horse-drawn carriages for two passengers without rear-facing seats.
Coupé is French for "to cut" and thus indicates a car which has been "cut shorter" than standard.
The German car makers obviously have a different translation...
I could have used that French definition as a Fun Fact. Missed opportunity Mr. Lion.
@@DrivenCarReviews Thanks Tom. I don't want to sound pedantic but words used to have, you know, meaning...
Now? Porsche sells an electric car with Turbo in its name.
Make mine that lovely shade of green on my coupe!
Thank you, Rob!
Thanks Rob!
you have great communication skills!
Thanks, Rob!!!!
Damn’ this channel definitely worths 1M subscribers
In the meantime I get to have a lot of fun
Great review. I still like coupes. I’ve got a four door car now but the rear doors only get used when I put groceries back there.
This video makes me want to get this car so now I just need to find a job that’ll pay me enough to afford it. 😆
Right? Back doors don't used that much.
Any chance we can get a CLA 45 AMG review? Great work!
I've been thinking about buying a used 2018 E400 coupe for a while now. I'm very close to pulling the trigger. The only thing holding me back is that I'm working from home, and really not driving much at all, so I really don't NEED to spend 50k on a car right now, but.... would be sweet. There's actually some with low miles around 45K
Thank you Rob
Love the E class coupe. I'll wait a few years to get one of these though for the cheap :)
The E-class is the best looking of the C/E/S, to my eye, and the coupe version is even better. But I've always had a soft spot for coupes--I've owned a few and my best friend used to own a two-door GTI that I loved. I think that some of coupes' issues are often overstated (although they're obviously off-limits for those moving car seats in and out). For example, I've found the back seats are often better on coupes than the equivalent sedans because they're frequently bucket seats. You lose the middle seat (which is rarely used) and instead get two comfier outboard seats.
Similar to Tom's wife though, my wife absolutely hates coupes and how long the doors are. Always has trouble getting them to "notch" into a position to stay open.
One more note about this Merc -- I wish it didn't have a power sliding seat to access the back. That thing takes forever. A mechanical action would take one second to slide all the way forward, while these seats take (by the video's count) a staggering TEN seconds to slide fully up. Much like a power liftgate, it's something that's not as convenient in practice as in theory.
Nice coupe but do the rear windows come down to have that hardtop styling or are they fixed?
The pillar-less design makes this car worth it, classy and a nod to the old days of Benz coupe. I think people need to give real-world mpg numbers on these mild hybrid cars. I'm interested in how the hybrid thing actually helps!
Thanks Rob, thanks Tom
Thanks Chris
Clearly a refined muscle car..inline 6..gobs of torque..yay Tom
Any feedback about the exhaust sound from outside?
Tom you rule the car review!!!
I don't but I do have a good time.
thankfully they didn't put one of those tv screens in the front seat. I will actually look at this car.
That Mercedes looks fantastic on you.
This is one good looking old man.
So sad that this is the last coupe and cabriolet E class. I love my 2019 E class Cab so much. Thanks for another great video.
You are mistaken. The S class will no longer be offered in coupe and cabriolet. E class is still being offered for 2021 and on.
S class coupe specially s63 AMG was the best!!
Why lost?
@@Rogue_2000 Mercedes have announced they won’t replace the E class coupe and cabriolet when they launch the all new E class. Along with the S Class coupe and cabriolet. Goodbye to the SLC too actually.
@@Jsah11 what then will be a coupe and a convertible?
@@Rogue_2000 I think they will carry on with a C Class coupe. An all new SL and an AMG GT coupe and roadster still. I think...
50 grand for a 2021 e 450 coupe. Thing looks incredible inside and out! I want one 😏
Thanks for the great review. I have a 2006 SLK350 that I've owned for 12 years, and have been looking for something that will replace it someday. The E450 might possibly be that car. Nothing else seems to come close IMO (unless I want to spend $120K or more).
When he asked "What does it take to have a successful Marriage?" - I thought the computer might answer "Buy her this car".
This coupe is stunning! My neighbors have the convertible and I am beyond jealous
jealousy isn't something to brag about
@@twotonepatek hi
That sport steering wheel is so much better than the new base steering wheel.
MB make beautiful cars, but can be a nightmare to own if you're not leasing and want to keep beyond warranty like I always do.
FACTS (since the late 1990s).
Well just don't keep them for more than 7 years and you will be fine
Amen @Greg Egan!!! Amen!!!
4:18 "You're not feeling sorry for me, are you?"
No Tom, I feel more proud of than sorry for you!
I have a 2018 C300 coupe.... I'm thinking of upgrading to an E450 coupe. But apart from the engine size, I dont think there's going to be THAT much difference?
Good video. You sound and look very similar to my physician. I tried to convince him to buy his SL that he always dreamed about. And his wife made him buy a Suburu. It's really sad man.
Beautiful interior classy styling.. only wish i have the money 😅
Fantastic looking car! Apple CarPlay is still wired, which is a little disappointing.
I found a 2018 Porsche Panamera on the Internet for sale at one of the local MB dealerships. It was my color and had very low miles on it so I went as soon as I could to check it out. The power was totally gone and the salesman couldn't even open the door (red flag; I took it as an omen). Shortly after, we found out from the lot boy that the Panamera (coupe?!) had already been sold anyway. So, long story short, I ended up trading in my 2016 E400 coupe for a 2021 E450 coupe. This will be my fourth coupe in a row, but not on purpose!
If you can afford that coupé then you could certainly afford a CPO SUV on the side.
Great review, and thanks for reviewing a coupe. Absolutely right, most land yachts only have 1 or 2 people in them. Do people buy "too much" car these days?
Heck yeah. Including myself😂
Great video video Tom, I love that colour!! The refresh has really sharpened the E class up!
I love Tom Voelk.. A man who talks highly or praises his wife is alright with me..
PS: The video was awesome too, Tom... ALTHOUGH I missed the Fun Fact, and the Evil Twin(Was actually telling my wife about the "Evil Twin" just a few days ago). lol
Pretty easy to heap praise on Mariko. She's a gem and effortlessly cool. I won the spouse lottery.
I love this car but if I could afford it I would stretch a little more to the E53... but I drive an Acura right now so what do I know.
So that's Rob completely blowing a stop sign at 3:33? :)
Nope. That's someone else. Nothing to see here...
It’s tragic, that they stopped the S-coupe production.
Couldn't agree more about passenger space. My dog is my most frequent backseat passenger and even that's nowhere close to an everyday thing, so a coupe is a thought for my next car.
100% Benz are the kings of coupes. Seeing as they are the only manufacturers of a proper hardtop aside from Bentley and Rolls Royce!
Wish you'd shot some footage with all 4 windows down! Just crank the airscarf and enjoy the heated armrests!
I think that the fact that the coupe has a small and inaccessible back seat will not be a problem. Anyone who buys this car will have at least one or 2 more cars one of which can be a more practical auto with more back seat access.
Thanks for yet another great review!! MB seems to getting more and more generic in the exterior styling...Where's their flair or leadership?? Even with the new S Class?
I don't know, in person it looks awful good. I'm of the "less is more" school of design.
2:40 I don't even drive a Mercedes and think thats one of the, if not the best solution on the market. Opens up so much space in the interior, easy to operate, ergonomically close to the steering wheel so you don't even have to take your hands off the wheel when reversing which it makes it all so quick. And then it's definately much better than a rotary dial, push buttons or especially the stubby wierd new designs that some companies like VAG come up with (911, new A3, etc.).
Like all electronic shifters I find I need to be very deliberate when selecting D, R or P with this. Seems I'm always in a hurry.
@@DrivenCarReviews I agree with that sentiment for a lot of electonic shifters. But in this case it really couldn’t be any easier, there are four positons and they require you to do 3 completely different things. D is always all the way down. R is always all the way up. P is always the press on the single button on the end. Only Neutral in the middle is hard to hit perfectly but you rarely ever use that in normal operation.
Is it alreaday spring in WA, Tom?
This was shot in Dec
next s coupe, please !!!
