This period was one of the happiest for Elis, in my opinion, as she got access to great Brazilian musicians. It shows in your healthy appearance.
Her concern, in that period, was just making quality music and not wanting to pass on any political/cultural message...
You can see her joy when making music with the great... After this period she went through great personal turmoil that culminated in her end. A shame as I think she would be very comfortable with current new technologies, and enjoying a lot of good music with her powerful voice. She was small in stature but very powerful in her voice.

Hi Frank! It is from the Brazilian Night of Montreux Jazz Festival, in Switzerland (1979). Elis did her performance and after her, Hermeto took the stage. By sugestion of the festival's manager they did a jam at the end of the show. They start with one song and by the audience's reaction (they got crazy about them together), they performed two more songs. All in improvisation mood. And this "Asa Branca" segment is longer in the original. Check it out. All the best, my friend.

Elis ans Hermeto were the atractions that night in Montreux Festival 1979. In the end of Hermeto's concert, Elis came up and made the improvised number. There was no rehearsal. I think they made 2 or 3 songs. Garota de Ipanema for sure.

This song is Luiz Gonzaga's. And it's a goodbye song for us, people from Northeast of Brazil, that couldn't stay in our beloved land because of the BIG water shortages. This is a song that represents the Northeast.

Just be careful not to confuse Hermeto Pascoal and Sivuca. It happens a lot, because of the white long hair and beard.

Frank, there is a story behind this presentation of them both together. Elis made a show that was incredible good. The show was mesmerising and when it came do the end and she left the stage, people were clapping their hands to have her back. It was about 11 minutes of people clapping hands and asking her to come back to the scene. But it was Hermeto's round, it was the time that he would start his show. She was kind thinking that it would not be good to him to come and start his show with the crowd asking for her. They decided to perform 3 songs together and it was not something that was rehearsed. You got a very little piece of what they did together. If you observe this piece that you are reacting to, he is playing and people start to clap hands in the same rhythm and she says quiet "vai, se acompanha das palmas" (go on, go together with the clappings). She was trying to make the atmosphere better to him so he could start his show.
If you're in Brazilian Northeast in June you will hear the original version of this song everywhere.

A historical encounter, wrapped in some legends: Elis didn't want the album (Elis Regina at Montreux Jazz Festival) to be released, she said she never wanted to sing bossa nova again and she said also that she hated the song, “The Girl from Ipanema”. The album was released few years after her death and it’s wonderful (listen to her rendition of “Na Baixa do Sapateiro”)

Frank... that was a improvisation in a concerto in Montreaux.... cause of this it's so short. Try the video of Garota de Ipanema, that was longer. And interesting cause the producer Nelson Motta, who was a great friend of Elis, said it a sobg that Elis simply HATED, but that day she was jealous about the success of Hermeto's presetation (Elis was a very competitive person) and she sung Garota de Ipanema soooo well, only to prove the SHE WAS THE BIG STAR of that night.
