Walnut is one of my favorite woods to turn. The smell of walnut just takes me back to my earliest days of turning - 1964 when I first took up a bowl gouge. Sweet memories. Thanks Mike.
Thanks Johnny, it's known as the king of woods for good reason, all the best, Mike
So simple and clean! And the dark walnut adds a real elegance to the entire piece. Well done, Mike!
Thanks Tom, I have acquired a larger piece of this wood and am dying to find a good project for it 😃
Your daughter is very lucky, that's a beautiful bowl.
Thank you very much! 😃
Love everything about this bowl, Mike. Very well done.
Your daughter is one blessed young lady.
Just perfect 🥰
Thanks so much Fiona, I do love the way this one came out, something about the simplicity of the shape that is just so nice 😃
@@MikeHolton I agree. Absolutely stunning
Beautiful, your daughter will love it, happy birthday to your daughter, whenever that may be.
Thanks Ian, all the best, Mike 😀
What nice dad. Hope you daughter enjoys your skill as much as we do.
Thanks 😀 she loves it.
That walnut is a nice wood. This little bowl is a beauty.
Thanks, I love turning walnut 😀
The bowl and wood grain looks terrific. Well done as usual. Your daughter should love the gift.
Dave.
Cheers Dave, she does.
Tactile experience is as important as what you see. It should be beautiful even with your eyes shut. I love the lines of Japanese aesthetics, everything is a joy to live with and use. I weave, and wood is used for most tools, not just by tradition, but because of the way they feel in your hands. This is a beautiful bowl. She will cherish it.
Couldn't agree more, the feel of my pieces is as important to me as how they look. Thanks so much for your comment and your support.
That blank has beautiful grain to it. Wonderful job as always. She should really enjoy it.
Thanks William, it's one of those blanks you wish you had a 1000 of.
Another fine work of art, created from a round lump of wood. It's amazing what you can do with a laithe. 🏴👍🏻😊
Thanks Charles, the walnut was just the star of this one. Just wish I could turn back time and turn it again.
Love the simplistic beauty of the Japanese style.
That black walnut was just the perfect medium.
Love it
Thanks Jaxx, the black walnut is just amazing, just wish I had more
Sharing is caring. Apparently, that includes colds... amazing bowl by the way, very elegant looking. I'm getting very tempted to buy an entry level lathe and have a go myself.
Be warned, it's addictive!!! But if you do give me a shout and I'll let you know what you need. 😊 And yes caring is sharing, there was no way I was going to escape.
The beauty is in the simplicity Mike,b but that was an excellent choice of wood to use. I'm sure your daughter will love and cherish it
Thanks Steve, just wish I had more of those blanks, beautiful wood to turn :)

Hi Mike, when i first started turning i was lucky enough to be given a whole walnut tree, which I unfortunately wasted most of it because I didn't really know how to process it properly, but the bits i do have are great, I always love the smell in my workshop the next day, such a great aroma
@@thehampshirewoodturner I cam imagine! I would love a whole tree :D

My partner has had a cold for 3weeks and just getting over it now even the Spanish sunshine hasn't helped
Hope you're feeling better soon mate
Sorry to hear that, my wife has had hers for 2 and it's not going away, there is a very nasty bug around somewhere that needs to go!!
Oh I do love Walnut, beautiful grain and colours, and takes a finish so well. You have certainly done it justice with this bowl, Mike, and I trust your daughter will treasure it forever; you have set it on its path to become a family heirloom! - an excellent job.
I hope so, as long as it does not get lost in the junk in her room 🤣, saying that, she is pretty good.
Very nice bowl I really like the lines as well. Keep up the great work.

Mike ,great job,the more daughter will use it the nicer color will be..... Did a few last year and they are fun things to make.... Didn't catch on upgrade video, is it a envoy or regent lathe?
Get well soon🤗
Thanks Tom, it's the Regent, I wanted to get something that I hope will last me the rest of my turning career. It's a beautiful lathe.
Also thanks for your comment on the bowl, wish I had 1000 more of those blanks.
I want to make one of these!
Well you have to tools, do it 😃
I might use some of my green sycamore and make a soup scoop and chopsticks to go with it! Lol! Have you tried ramen and miso yet?@@MikeHolton
