  • Isn't jealousy a petty, human emotion? Does it make sense that Christians would worship a God who is characterized by fits of temper tantrums? At Fresno State University, a student asks and Frank Turek responds.

      Stoptheabuse now Morality doesn’t stem from religion. I treat every person with respect and kindness, work hard every day, take money out of every paycheck to donate to those less fortunate, go out and do volunteer work every weekend. I’ve done countless food drives, worked in soup kitchens feeding the poor, and many more volunteer acts all year round. It’s not even that I don’t believe in God, it’s simply that I just don’t care if there is one or not. For me, doing the right things feels good. That’s the only reason I pursue moral choices. I don’t believe I’ll get into paradise, or please some omnipotent being. I do it for me, and because it makes me feel whole. How would you argue someone who lives like this deserves to suffer eternally in hell just because they don’t believe in a god?

      Love is an immaterial reality that exists apart from us. Love will never change and whether we exist or not will still exist no matter if anyone is conscious or living to experience or observe it. Hate is not the same because it is a lack of love. Immaterial realities such as love, truth, Logic, mathematics, and morality cannot create themselves. They are so specific in their nature that you have to assume they were created by someone. Since God created space, time, and matter which would logically mean He is spaceless, timeless, and IMMATERIAL. These immaterial realities come from Him. So love comes from Him and because He is not finite or made of matter like us so His nature is FAR different than ours. These immaterial realities don’t only come from Him but are OF Him.

      Hell is not always about *being tortured* but rather than living in maximum risk of evil, everybody is *tormented* . Imagine that the 7 years of harvest is Heaven and 7 years of famine is hell. People will struggle doing so evil to get what they want. So if someone always do evil deeds in hell it will be maximized. No love found in hell even just a little.

    • @ScornedOne1080
      @ScornedOne1080 Před 4 lety +6

      Sorry, but the notion of hell, or "Eternal Torment" was taken from most other religions, the more direct one being Tartarus from Greek mythology. Take now, however, that in said mythology, Hades oversaw the underworld/world of the dead, and both of it's destinations: Tartarus (eternal torment) and Elysium (eternal paradise). KNow what's funnier? People seem to have dreams and whatnot of heaven, and their recollection of it is always vague . . .yet, here we multiple depictions of hell, and in very graphic detail . . . which says that basically hell is far more interesting for people to consider than heaven, which is dull and likely drab and uninteresting.

    "Howard is still a little jealous of his authority”

    "they are very jealous of their rights"

    • @WarpPal
      @WarpPal Před 5 lety +33

      Twulfbynight Well he created the Earth and humans out of it, how is that slavery to say he owns it?? He owned Lucifer too look what he did. He didnt break Lucifer after his rebellion. Dont act like thats unreasonable...well maybe according to your subjective standards but again its invalid anyways so...
      There are people who CHOOSE to serve God and make major sacrifices, but because we have an adversary who is trying to turn humanity against God and destroy his people off the Earth by making followers of his own. God must defend his people by destroying those who join the adversary to destroy his people.
      Now that adversary must be punished and all those who follow it by permanently putting them away from all those who recognize God and follow him, thats what Hell and the Lake of Fire is for. BUT many unbelievers, pagans, even devil worshipers must be ministered to to be given the chance to separate themselves in spirit from the Adversary.
      You aint dead yet or a slave so I guess He's not a psychopath because if he was God's people would be like humanoid insects with no consciousness. And would rule this planet involuntarily with a fist of an unbreakable alloy unable to choose for themselves or the people they rule over.
      Thats the problem with society today(at least in the first world) If you experienced evil in its pure raw form you wouldnt be using psychopath loosely like that

    • @Twulfbynight
      @Twulfbynight Před 5 lety +9

Do they go to heaven or hell since they went extinct thousands of years before Abraham. And if a person chooses to worship Vishnu or Thor, do they go to hell as well? You speak of choice, but there is none. It’s only worship me or be destroyed and tormented for eternity. How is that not a psychopath?

    It's also worth noting that, while we tend to use the words "jealous" and "envious" interchangeably, they actually have distinct meanings. Envy is wanting something that isn't yours, which is bad. Jealousy is not wanting someone else to take away what is yours (like the jealous husband). Jealousy can be bad, based on the heart and attitude of the person, but it isn't always. And as Frank said, with God it's purely motivated out of love.

    • @cryptfire3158
      @cryptfire3158 Před 3 lety +2

      an obvious example of how we know Jealousy can be a good thing. Quite often when people break up, they want their old partner to be jealous. Sometimes they even go so far as to try to get a new partner just to make their old partner jealous. If the old partner is jealous.. that is a desirable trait.

    • @MichaelWilliams-eq4kt
      @MichaelWilliams-eq4kt Před 4 lety +38

      Morgan, you are the proof; posting the same message all over Christian videos, desperate for someone to talk to about how evil the God you don’t believe in is, “borrowing” biblical morality to cast judgment against said God even though you allegedly don’t believe in either God or subjective morality (but we both know you do, hence your presence here).
      I know plenty of people who don’t believe in God and none of them waste any of their Godless freedom on Christian message boards. Only people who believe in God and hate him do that (I used to be one so I get it). Real non-believers are out there whacking off and getting drunk and laid and living it up because they know that tomorrow they die. It’s a dangerous road but at least they’re consistent with their beliefs.
      You, on the other hand, spend your time on Frank Turek’s comment sections. I know why I’m here and it makes sense given my worldview but you?
      Since you’re already here and since you believe that God exists, why don’t you just join us instead “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."”
      ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:9-11‬ ‭ESV‬‬
      The alternative is to keep doin what you’re doin. I think we both know the better of those options. I’m looking forward to calling you brother in the coming kingdom! Take care and God bless you, Morgan!

      @Matt Smith I wasn't aware anyone argued feelings were proof of God. The proof we have that the God of the Bible is real is in the OT, whcih foretold in full detail the last 2500 years of Israel's history, including its return in 1948 after nearly 2000 years of diaspora across the earth. The OT even pinpointed the exact year of Israels return of 1948 Ad some 2500 years ago in the book of Ezekiel. Not to mention it fortold the entire birth; life, ministry, death, burial and Resurrection of Jesus in stunning detail, not to mention it predicted the entire 2000+ year Church age of mostly non Jews (Gentiles) and the Jews rejecting their own Messiah for over 2000 years.
      No other religion on earth can offer such evidence, in fact they do not even attempt to offer any tangible evidence, they are all based on 100% BLIND faith.

      @skriller bee Healthy jealousy is a means to guard your territory and comes from a sincere care and commitment to a relationship.
      THIS is the proper definition of jealousy.....
      "The jealousy of God is his holy commitment to his honor, glory, and love that manifests itself in the salvation of his people and the just condemnation of all who stand in opposition to him."
      The Theological Meaning of God's jealousy:
      "What does the Bible mean when it says that God is a jealous God? Whatever it means, it cannot refer to or imply anything sinful in God. He is a holy God and is never sinfully jealous. He is never jealous because he is needy, greedy, or covetous, or because he is lazy and unwilling to put forth the effort necessary to accomplish his purposes. God is not jealous because he takes a petty dislike to certain individuals and begrudges their achievements, or because he is frustrated with his position in the universe. God does not conform to a standard outside of himself; he is the standard of what is pure and holy. God is in a class by himself, not only in terms of his ontological being, but also in his moral purity. He is undefiled by sin and he knows what is right and good because he knows himself. When he encounters that which is a contradiction of his holiness, he reacts in wrath and he is jealous that what is right and good be pursued instead. God’s jealousy is not indicative of weakness or a character flaw on his part, but it is a part of his holy omnipotence. He will pursue his holy purposes, and, in his zeal, he will accomplish all the set out to do.
      This is by far the best way that I can relate to the subject at hand. I believe that I had answered your questions appropriately. Keep in mind, an open mind and a child-like-faith (coming to God with a humble heart) is absolutely monumental to approaching God. He is seeking an OUT OF THIS WORLD relationship with YOU, friend........and it starts with the ABC's of Salvation.
      See Tim Henderson's videos on ABC's of Salvation......You're worth it ALL! Come as you are.

      God is an infinite being but at the same time represented as a being with eternal love...and if LOVE were to be real, jealousy must exist. God cannot be jealous by any materialistic possessions or skills, because he is omnipotent, instead he is jealous on the aspect of LOVE itself because if we are predetermined (mechanized being without free will) then you cannot LOVE, you can only COMPLY...love is a PRIVILEGE obtained from the FREEDOM of will, and this is FAR MORE valuable to God than anything else, wherein you consciously choose to believe in him and walk his path despite all the self adulation and pleasure The Earth (world of sin) has to offer. If God cannot love then he cannot be an infinite being as it is defined as a supreme ethic.

      He did answer the question though. There's such a thing as righteous Jealousy as well as petty jealousy. Jealousy isn't a petty emotion in of itself. It all depends on what causes the jealousy.
      If you're a parent and let's say daughter is calling another man "Daddy", you absolutely have a right to feel a certain way about that cause that's your baby that YOU raised and loved it's whole life. If you have a girlfriend who's flirting and touching on another dude, jealousy is an understandable reaction. That's what leads to a break up.
      Petty jealousy is equivalent to a man envious of another person's money.
      This is why God told Hosea the pain he feels about his wife leaving him is similar to how he feels when Israel chases after false God's.

      Envy means discontented longing for someone else's advantages. Jealousy means unpleasant suspicion, or apprehension of rivalship.

      God being jealous means He feels an unpleasant feeling/apprehension that He has a rival in your heart. You can compare it to yourself having a crush on someone, but that person likes someone else.

So that we can live in peace trusting him, having someone who will always be there no matter what, that sounds like it is for us, not for his pleasure in someone worshiping and bowing to him. He deserves all the glory, yet he took the form of a servant, he humiliated himself for our benefit. You do understand that the Old Testament was under the law correct?
      The law was in a sense a curse put over man.
      In the book of exeqiuel it says "and God gave them up to laws that were not good and judgments that they could not live by"
      Paul said that the law in part was good because it showed us what was evil.
      But that the law is a curse because no one can fulfill it.
      And before you begin to talk about God being evil.....
      The nations and the people that God destroyed in the Old Testament ....
      You should study a little history of what these people actually used to commit and do...
      The Canaanites used to offer their newborns as burnt sacrifices to their god molech.
      The same people used to have sexual relations with animals.
      Today we have scientific evidence showing that having relations with animals can lead to several sexually transmitted diseases

    God is so jealous for us because He is so loving that He doesn’t want us to serve false things that can never fill any void because He knows that only He can satisfy us so He wants us to treasure Him above all else, out of love for us. That way we can experience true goodness. He wants nothing but the best for us, and He is the best. If we have our attention on anything or anyone else- we are focusing on something less than we could- and He is so loving He doesn't want us to experience less than we could.

    Even Oprah said she doesn't want a God that is Jealous, over her! That is so silly, I explain it like this: God is our Father. He created us, He IS God. How would you feel if your child began to call on another man as their father? You KNOW as the real father of your child, you will protect your child, and love him/her like noone else can. That is exactly what God means by this. We are His child, and if we begin to pray to another God, he said he is a jealous God because He wants to protect us, provide for us, and He wants us to come to Him when we pray! He is not jealous because he is possessive, he is jealous because he loves us, and he wants to SHOW us! ❤️ Thank you so much Yahuah and Jesus for creating me, my world, and for your perfect love!

    As a Christian, I think the "God gets nothing from the relationship with humans" argument doesn't make sense. Jesus wept when death entered into His friend. God regretted when mankind allowed Creation to become corrupt.
    You can't make God into a "person" in order to demonstrate the necessity of His existence while denouncing person-like qualities.
    Jesus calls God "Father" because He is a loving father. Of course He hurts when we rebel against Him.

    • @STREEEEEET
      @STREEEEEET Před 8 lety +59

      +Christopher Lee I don't think you represented the argument correctly. He starts saying that God doesn't get any *benefit* from the relationship with us. He then says God doesn't get anything from us, but i think we need to see the context here. He was supporting his first assertion. Basically what he was saying is that, everything God desires for us is for our own benefit, because he loves us so much, not because he benefits from anything that he desires from us.

    • @Xristophero
      @Xristophero Před 8 lety +19

      +STREEEEEET I appreciate the followup but I disagree. I've heard it posited many times by various apologists, but it, according to my estimation, isn't biblical.
      Of course God gets something from us. Praise and worship are a worthy sacrifice. The sacrifices of old put forth a pleasing aroma. In the Son, God is well pleased. So on.
      Peter says that God takes no pleasure in torturing the wicked for eternity, the implication being that God laments it.
      Again, Jesus lamented over his dead friend.
      In fact, the love relationship REQUIRES self-investment. God is most definitely hurt by those who turned from Him. The term "jealousy" cannot be separated from its emotional ties.
      Christians are so keen to divorce God from being associated with jealousy, but why? God lamenting over His Son's bride's rebellion is a perfectly valid representation of love.
      God doesn't need to be put in a box, because Christ has taken Him from out of the secluded place behind the veil and has given us the word "Abba."

    • @STREEEEEET
      @STREEEEEET Před 8 lety +6

      Christopher Lee Of course God get's something from us, it's a relationship, there is an exchange. There is no doubt about that.
      What i'm saying is i think his point, i don't know about other's apologists that you mentioned, but i think Frank's point is that whatever God desires for us it's for own sake.
      And i think you would agree with that.

      God is still God without man. He is love. He loves us beyond our comprehension. He wan'ts and He knows what's better for us, so he command's us to do that.
      Not that he need your worship, we worship because we recognize that in Him.
      I don't praise the Lord because He commanded or because i want to go to Heaven.

      You know God isn't ashamed of you, right? He knows you're going to fail. Yes, you need to have a repent and have an attitude of repentance each day. But you are not saved, by your ability to not sin. Think about that. You are save by HIS grace, thru faith, in HIS death and Resurrection.
      Put it this way, If you can be saved BECAUSE YOU stopped sinning, then you could boast that YOU are the reason for your salvation. That is not Scriptural at all. That is why Paul said, we are saved by grace alone, lest any man boast.
      Just accept Jesus as your Savior, make Him Lord of your life, and do what He told you to do. Ask for forgiveness everyday for your trespasses against Him. "If you are faithful in confessing your sin, God is faithful and just to forgive". That's scripture. It doesn't mean live like the world and make sin a way of life. Because if that's the case, you aren't walking in "the Way". Sin is your way. If you put yourself in situations where you know you will give in, you need to change that. What is your lifestyle? Are you living a life pleasing to God, or pleasing to you? Make His Way your lifestyle, and ask for forgiveness when you fail at it.

      @@joshlicari6430 Where did Jesus ever say "I have been sent as a sacrificial lamb for your sins?" There is not a single unambiguous statement in the complete Bible where Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) himself says that "I am God" or where he says "Worship me". If you read the Bible (John 14:28), Jesus says "My father is greater than I", (John 10:29) Jesus saying "My father is greater than all", (Matthew 12:28) he says, "I cast out devils with the spirit of God", (Luke 11:20) he says "I with the finger of God cast out devils", (John 5:30) "I can't of my own self do nothing, as I hear I judge, and my judgement is just, for I seek not my will, but the will of my father". Anyone who says he seeks not my will but the will of almighty God is Muslim. Jesus never claimed divinity. In fact if you read the Bible (Book of Acts 2:22) it says, "Ye man of Israel, listen to this, Jesus of Nazareth, a MAN approved of God amongst you by wonders and miracles and signs in which God did by him and you are witnessed to it." If you read the Book of Deuteronomy 5:7-9 and Book of Exodus 20:3-5, it says "Thou shall have no other image of me, thou shall not make onto thee any graven image of anything that is in the Heavens above, in the Earth beneath and the water beneath the Earth. Thou shall not bow down to them, nor serve them, for I, thy lord, thy God is a jealous God. If you read the Gospel of John (17:3), it says, "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." This clearly indicates that Jesus was a messenger sent by the one and almighty God. If you read the Gospel of Matthew (19:16-17), it says, "And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." Jesus never said if you believe I am God or have died on the cross you are saved. That is a teaching of the church taking many Christians away from their scriptures.If you read further, Jesus (pbuh) goes on and says in John (14:10), "Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.".
      In the Book of Deuteronomy 6:4, Jesus pbuh says, "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.". Jesus was clear-cut about his message. He never said anything regarding 1 in 3 of a trinity anywhere in the Bible.

Or the prophets of the Old testament (writing the words from the mouth of God) expressing humanities fallen state and in dire need of a deliverer; Why do you think God wanted the animal sacrifices, do you think that a mere animal would wash away the vast multitude of sins for all who participated, the answer is NO , It was an action that involved putting mans trust in God in order to be credited with righteousness, the sacrifices were only a type ( a foreshadowing of what was to come). Jesus fulfilled all the prophecy regarding the Son of Man's first coming perfectly; the prophecy that declared that He would be God in the flesh, and the rest will be fulfilled PERFECTLY in the near future. There are just too many times Jesus refers to himself as the I AM. He is the Son and He submits to the Father (They are equal though (Father,Son, and Spirit)). The whole old testament speaks of God (Elohim) in the plural "Let us make man in Our image". All three members are present in the Godhead who is the author of the Bible.
      You are looking at the surface level. All the scripture you cited can be easily resolved by understanding God in human flesh and His purpose within the world (not to rule an earthly kingdom, but to die and bring a heavenly kingdom) while also understanding the relationship between the Father and the Son. He calls you my friend: to himself, you must look closely. I promise you that you will see that he is truly King above all King's and Lord above all Lord's. I can blame this sin on this truth: She cheated on me and caused jealousy to rage within me. This is the opposite type of jealousy God has toward his children.

      @joker so you think the bible is not credible because it was written by man? Let me ask you: have you ever been to school? I'm sure you've cracked at least one textbook in your life. • @alanamaharaj
      @alanamaharaj Před 3 lety

      @joker so, yes you are willing to believe in man written textbooks. Interesting. So your problem with the bible isn't that it is man written otherwise you'd be holding a contradictory viewpoint.
      Textbooks tell you far greater things than the "grass is green". We currently have books that give us historical accounts of our world. We have books that direct our medical knowledge. We have books that talk about philosophical understandings of life. And we have books that focus on spirituality. These are some deep things for men to be writing and claiming. Yet you don't seem to have issue with them. How come?
      The bible does the same exact thing, (and it certainly does not just focus on God sending us to hell if we don't choose Him-as the gospels will prove) yet you have problem with it. Why the hypocrisy?

    This has been a long time pet peeve of mine, and it further irritates me that some online dictionaries have accepted today's misuse of the term jealousy. So, I'll say this once, pardon the caps, but I want to stress this, JEALOUSY AND ENVY ARE NOT SYNONYMOUS! Jealousy is a healthy emotion, but can sometimes be perverted into a bad emotion. Envy on the other hand is a fundamentally bad emotion and can never be a healthy emotion. Jealousy is being protective of something that is yours and you care about. Envy is wanting something that is not yours, but someone else's. An example of healthy jealousy, no one would ever want to see complete indifference on their spouse's part when they are cheating on them. It shows them that he or she doesn't care enough about you to be jealous of your love.

      @muttleymutt4967 Před 9 lety +3

      Dave Dumas I understand what you're saying, Dave. A person can admire another's intelligence and be inspired from that person to better their own intelligence, though, admiring and envying another person's intelligence are two completely different emotions. One could argue, they can produce the same results or drive for the one trying to better themselves. Yes, but results have nothing to do with the emotional journey of that person to achieve their goal. One emotional journey is ugly, the other is not. Though, someone could inspire you, you should never envy that person. Envy causes competition, causes you to needlessly compare yourself to that person, very unhealthy attitudes, but simply admiring that person from a heart with no envy, will produce good things. It will cause you to better yourself without comparing your intelligence or anything else about you with that person or anyone else. Envy is a horrible state of heart and mind that affects everything in a person's life.

      Jealousy is never a healthy emotion. It is a manifestation of a possessive nature and a lack of trust. We all (should) agree that being possessive of another person is unhealthy, even if they are your spouse (you don't own them). We all (should) agree that a healthy relationship cannot exist when either party doesn't trust the other. If I can't trust my partner, then they can piss right off since I don't have the time or energy to worry about what (or who) they're doing every time we're apart.
      What's even more ridiculous is that if your God is real, He's jealous of _imaginary_ gods (He is the One True God after all). Please give me one example of a healthy mind being jealous of a person they know doesn't exist.

    • @GR-ym8po
      @GR-ym8po Před 7 lety

      Muttley Mutt envy is perfectly fine as long as you do the proper steps to acquire what you want and don't take short-cuts(stealing). Because envy is why the baker is selling bread. he wants your money more than his bread, so he sells it to you. He was envious of your money. You were envious of his bread. You traded. Now both of you are happier. Envy is seeing the world around you and wanting the best for yourself. It's not a bad thing. What you are or are not willing to do to get what you envy is your decision. envy itself is not bad.

Jealously to God is not jealousy as we’ve grown to redefine it as. it’s just like he said If we’re in a marriage why would you want your spouse with someone else ? God is so good he don’t even hate us when we DO choose other things over him while In marriage with him. How could not submit to something so loving? How many of us can do that or will do that ? The fact that he asked the questions proves he knows there is a God. It’s his unrighteousness that he uses to suppress the truth because he would rather pursue his sin than truth manifested and created in Jesus (John 3) (Romans 1) we need to separate in our hearts that Jesus is lord and be willing to give a defense for the truth that we have from Him and by Him and through Him with meekness and fear (1 Peter 3) (Colossians 1)
