  • I am partnering with @Meserret (@meserretkaraca, / karacameserret ) to be giving a way a new deck every week on this channel #share1percent.
In this video, I compare my recent light skateboard setup to my classic heavy counterpart. Skating a light board made me realize how much I like heavy skateboards. Heavy trucks save lives.

Yes! I completely agree with you. More weight gives more momentum on the up-smack catch of the bottom of the feet. The magnetization that you talked about. I compared it to trying to throw a tiny grain of sand vs. trying to throw a nice round rock with enough heft to throw it further than the grain of sand.

From Aces to Thunder Lights as well as changing out your wheels. That’s probably a change of around 150g in total. You’d feel that for sure.

Agree 100% on the helpfulness of a heavier set up; it’s why no matter what I try, I always find my way back to Indys.

Thunders feel great on wider decks and grind excellent. Just watch that wheel base as the longest the wheelbase it feels like a tank.

I like the weight and the wheel base length of a venture 5.6. The weight and the far wheel base it has made for the perfect pop and float time in the air when I’m doing Ollie’s onto higher rails (especially for board slides).
But I switched to thunders 148s because I like the pinch and lowness when doing grinds but not so much for popping. So I fixed the pop of my thunder by using a deck with a steeper tail. But now I was having trouble with how light thunders are and it was popping way to quickly. So I switched to a 14.38 wheel base and it’s feeling pretty dang solid now.
I want to figure out a way to make thunders heavier but I may just have to switch back to ventures. Because the light truck aren’t helping my all round skating but they improved the feeling of grinds and transition.

Hi Matt DiGi, I always enjoy your reviews and skate videos very much.
I have a question that I want to ask you and I'd like to hear your opinion.
First off I live in a place in the UK where all the street's skate spots are only made of crusty asphalt, in the UK we don't really have asphalt like in the US or other countries in Europe, it's not even considered asphalt, the right name of it is tarmac , Tar+Macadam, a very rocky, pebbly, granular crusty asphalt.
I have noticed that when I skate on these types of grounds my deck doesn't pop much, sometimes it does not pop at all, and I struggle , frustratedly, when I am trying to ollie or doing other tricks. Do you think that this issue with crusty asphalt is a common one of every skater or it is just me whom I don't know how come can't skate on that type of ground?
My setup at the moment is s Jeff Grosso Antihero 8.5" , spitfire F4 53mm Classic , independent 149, Bronson G3 bearings. what's your own opinion ?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @urigilat
      @urigilat Před rokem +2

Try waxing your tail, should help with reducing some of the friction the crusty surface has, and make your board pop a bit higher.

i'd have to agree about heavy boards. and i think it makes you stronger and better, think of all the dudes in the late '80s and early '90s cracking ollies over fire hydrants off the flat with 9.5-10.5" boards, trucks to match, 60mm wheels. i tend to ride bigger wheels 56-60. i like indy and venture for taller/heavier trucks. i've got some old thunder lows from mid '90s and they're ok i guess but only 7.65" wide and no kingpin clearance. i like a taller truck, i know the new ones are taller but i think i'd go with venture highs over thunder even though they may not turn as well.

I've started to like BIG boards and BIG wheels again. I started skating in 1985 so it felt like going home for me. I'm skating a 10x30 Vision with Indy 169s and gigantic 65mm/97a Slimeballs. It just feels SO good. When I go out to skate I'm grabbing it a lot more than my Krooked Ray Barbee.

Number one that comes to mind is Mini Logo decks. Can't really go wrong with them and they are not terrible. I would stay away from any other cheaper options and basically accept a good deck is going to cost you $40 to $60 at least. In the long run you might also save money by a lot by going with a carbon reinforced deck. And this can be cheap too when you go with an Almost Impact Light deck for example. More durable for sure, but not as expensive as a Powell Peralta Flight deck.

@@piggytrombone Those often aren't cheap though. At least where I am living, they cost pretty much the same as a more regular deck (think Real, Almost, Primitive etc.). And I have yet to find shop decks that are actually worth it. I'm sure they exist, but haven't found them so far. Oh and Mini Logo is like mad cheap at $30 or so... Hard to beat that.

I don't think you can say something is hands down better because you are used to it and you feel awkward with something different. Catching tricks will obviously feel lighter, but it's not like you need the extra weight to know it is there. It's just you not feeling it as much as your usual setup.
