Incredibly informative video. After watching this, I looked up our couch and found it only used 1.8 density foam, which is why it's already feeling unsupportive after 2 years. I'm 220 lbs, and I'll be looking into 2.3 - 2.7 range from now on. Thank you so much for this!

All correct information. The only additional complications are 1) formulations are not equivalent or even similar as they are totally proprietary "Secret formula" trade secrets from Carpenter to another foamer and thus a Q26 @ 35 IF is not even remotely like a 2535 despite ostensibly very similar parameters. 2) Additionally, the other variables at play like the type of upholstery (Weight, elastic properties), the design/stylistic approach at play with the upholstery (flat, no crown cushion construction vs puffy, bookwrap w/crown and more give volume gives a softer eeffect).

Thanks for this.. pretty much what I was looking for.. However, I am searching for a Leather Sofa with Powered Recline most all of those have a Density of 1.8 advertised and then some have that with a layer of a filled padding on top of cushion. I want something that will last us the longest with the best feel. Do I have to either have one or the other? I would of course like Comfort.. My Wife weights in at 100Lb.. me almost 150lbs more at 230lbs.. what would you consider my best option to look for? Please advise..

All commercial bought furniture will use 1.5 -1.8 cheap foam to cut corners. I deal with this very often. They have warranty where if it goes flat they replace it but they replace it with the same foam so it’ll go flat again. You have to have a professional get you Hr

Well, I am not going metric on you, so apples to apples. We have lost very large store in our city. This forces us online and I have found many do not list density. If the did, would it be the industry standard of 1 cubic foot?
I have foam up to 4 inches thick on hand. Without industry equipment, being creative, I would could weigh a cubic foot, but “IFD” would be more open to interpretation. Using the same thickness and the same weight, could I measure the 1 inch deflection to pass judgment on a given foam. This all salvaged foam from large new seats, kept in black bags to keep sunlight off. It can yellow due to “UV” light and turn into dead foam from use and prolonged “UV” exposure. Is this correct? Novice, forced retirement and automotive Master Tech doing my own seats, console and door panels. Thanks for you info. It “Does” help, me!

Orthopaedic : The Layered composition is -
      1 inch Cool Fit Foam (35 D) + 1 inch transition layer (40 D) + 1 inch Memory Foam (50 D) + Remaining thickness High Resilience Foam (32 D)
Cool fit and memory foam, Both foam's layers remain same in all thickness even it's 5", 6" or 8". Only HR foam, we customise as per your required thickness.
