In today's episode we meet Allegra Foxlie - who is a Tension an Exercise release provider and also the founder of the Foxlie Plan.
Allegra talks us through the importance of resetting your nervous system wich is the source of our responses to stress.
During the Perimenopause & menopause - women's anxiety and stress can peak and this can have dramatic effects on the key sex hormones. It is the reason also why women can struggle to lose weight despite exercising and eating more healthily.
If our cumulative stresses build up either due to our job, our health, PTSD or childhood traumas (these can be generational traumas too) then our nervous system becomes overwhelmed and this shows up in our bodies and how our brains are functioning.
The phrase of feeling tired and wired can be very common when experiencing chronic stress.
The culprit is cortisol and Allegra gives some brilliant analogies of how this can help and hinder us.
Allegra shares with us how we can get back to the more productive state of 'Rest and Digest' and reclaim our own reservoir of hormones ( Oestrogen, progesterone and Testosterone) through stress management, breath work and movement.
Allegra tells us what she believes is required going forward to enable women to manage their stress and stay more in control of their health and lives.
Allegra has a book coming out later in 2022 called 'The Foxlie Plan'.

My doctor dismissed peri menopause with me, because my periods were regular? Is this something you can be going through with regular periods?

Absolutely right. Periods are hugely affected by stress levels and so ‘yes’ you can be experiencing stress and it will be affecting your hormones- on subtle ways at first but then quite dramatic ways.

Yes - you can still suffer with a whole host of other symptoms on the run-up to menopause. It could also be that you aren't in peri but you are suffering from stress
