      I have the original Q that is much cheaper than the q2 but still has the main reason these cameras are amazing. The lens. I’m a fujifilm fanboy. I manage a community of almost 1000 members to prove that :) but I would not trade my Q for the V. I would probably keep both :) first reason is the lens. Plus 28mm 1.7 on a full frame sensor does have a special look that I just love. The sharpness of the summilux and the fact that I don’t sem to be able to flare with this lens…. Anyway the V has its own advantages. The 35mm equivalente lens, the x-trans sensor that I do really like and the compact style. The price is not a big difference for me because my Q costed me about 2k second hand. Like new. The silver version that was released in 2018 I think. I understand the switch but I would never do it. I would just keep both :)))

      X100V. More affordable and 35mm focal length equivalent. If I had the budget to buy the Q2... probably I'd bought an M instead. Why? Interchangeable lens. Well manual focus is... I don't mind.

    Hey, love your videos first of all.
    I’ve been a Fujifilm user for the past 3 years almost, and I love their system its great. And I agree the film recipes are a huge part of why I love it. What’s funny is social media especially tiktok has made the x100v so popular that they cant keep up with orders and the price has inflated. Thing is, recipes are available on all fuji cameras not just the x100v (not sure about all but certainly most).
    I also think regular people see good photos taken with recipes and just think that they can do the same. They don’t realize they still have to learn the basics of composition, light etc…
    There’s a strong feeling that a new version will come out sometime in 2024 but who knows!
    Great video as always. And yes the delay when storing is due to the clarity.

    • @kylemeshna
      @kylemeshna  Před rokem +1

      Yeah social media has certainly been a huge factor in the x100v becoming so popular. I believe it’s because it’s one of the most approachable / affordable cameras that can make use of the recipes. No need for purchasing lenses etc.
      Also very much agree that the camera won’t make you a better photographer. But it may inspire folks to get out and shoot more, which definitely will!

Yes, the Q which features the strongest talents of the Q2 but can be picked up at a much reduced price from the second hand market. I absolutely love this camera for the reasons you mention, and I love the 28 mm look. For everything else I keep an older Sony RX1 that I also cannot bring myself to sell 😉

The Fuji is a great camera and I’d probably buy one with some sort of stabilization in the future but for now the q2 is the winner for me. As a note I took both on a vaca and compared images and frankly there was no comparison.

    I have the Fuji X100F and a Leica Q. Absolutely love the X100F, it’s fantastic. The Q manages to be better it in every way, it’s FF and the image quality is next level. The Q is more special and personally I would not swap it for a Q2, unless maybe a monochrome Q2 🤔.
    Good video, comparing these two though, really enjoyed it.
    I kept my X100F as it’s classic, and easier to Chuck in my pocket, will pass on the X100V.
    Q2 is pricey, but weather sealed 🤔, however after buying a D700 and some glass cheap over lockdown for the trip out in all weathers, I then picked up a D850 and I have been picking up decent classic lens as people rush to trade for mirrorless.

  • @iancandler5446
    @iancandler5446 Před rokem +28

    The thing with the Q2 is that it has a 47mp FF sensor, giving not only much better lowlight performance but also the ability to crop into the image without losing resolution. You could easily crop your images to reflect using either a 35mm or 50mm lens without issue. I will admit though that its nice to have a native 35mm lens.

    • @spincity850
      @spincity850 Před rokem +2

      You do realise that lower megapixel cameras perform better in low light, why do you think Sonys A7S 12.2mp sensor was legendary for video when it came out for its low light capability, less photo sites = better low light performance.
      The only benefit is that its full frame vs APS C in this scenario so it can collect more light.

    • @ihateunicorns867
      @ihateunicorns867 Před 11 měsíci +4

      @@spincity850 This isn't quite right. Lower MP cameras give the effect of less noise as the noise is reduced in size (more efficient photosite-to-pixel ratio). But the Q2 has a 35mm sensor (which is over twice the size of the X100's APS-C sensor. Setting the Q2 to 35mm focal length mode will give you an image taken on a crop of the sensor slightly larger than the X100's, with half a stop of extra light (f/1.7 vs f/2).
      Obviously, it's down to personal preference. Fuji's images look very different to Leica's. And if finance is an issue for you, the X100 is a great budget option. But the Q2 has better credentials and ability when it comes to creating 35mm images.

    • @yogi4fitness
      @yogi4fitness Před dnem

      If you want better low light performance get the rx1rii from Sony. Beautiful rendering and better low light performance than the Q2.

  • @alanc6416
    @alanc6416 Před rokem +3

    BTW, the X100V lens is technically not a "pancake", because unlike interchangeable lens cameras, the sensor is set further back into the body (check the sensor mark on top of the body), so it's actually a proper prime lens.
    Additionally, I'm not sure if this will help with film recipes, but for film simulations, you can just shoot RAW (or RAW + JPEG) and adjust after the shot, and the camera will create another JPEG based on the film simulation. If you're only doing this on the fly for 2-5% of your photos, this might help your speed, as long as you have the RAW file. You can also do the same adjustments on a laptop with the Fuji RAW Studio app as well. Hope this will help.

I agree that fuji in terms of customisation has a lot more to offer, that said I like the overall handeling of the Leica and the lens on it is from a different planet and as a result the image quality is awesome. Why did you choose the the x100v instead of the XE4 or XT30II? Both have identical specs and are cheaper plus allow you to shoot with whatever focal length you chose?

    I’m conflicted with Leica.
    Most of my photography hero’s used a Leica. That says something. The objection you mentioned and I can’t overcome is the Leica price. $4-6k for a body and up to $5k for a lens. Leica goes beyond the point of diminishing marginal return. I’m not paying for tradition. I’m not paying for design. It comes down that the Leica light capture machine is too expensive for me.
    I’ve tried different bodies when I can borrow one from the local ca,
    Mega store. Thank you Glazer’s. I don’t like the lack of technology in many Leica bodies. I like autofocus. I like IBIS. I like the ability to take video despite not using this feature very much.
    I do street photography. I walk for miles and hours at a time. I value small size and light weight. APSC gives me what I need. Sometimes good enough is good enough.

    I had an X100S and went to the Q, sold the Q, and later got a Q2. The X100 is a great camera. I don't remember exactly how, but there is a way to autofocus the X100 to get you close and then manual focus to fine tune - that's how I did manual focus with it. The main thing I prefer about the Q2 is the image stabilization... and then there's the overall image quality of the Q2 which is stellar. But man, nobody does color like Fuji. And the flash on the X100 is like some kind of black art going on in there, it looks really good. Honestly, if I sold my Leica stuff and got an X100V with the 28mm and 50mm attachments, I would still be quite happy and have a good chunk of $ left over. I'm sticking with the Leica, but you can't go wrong with either one.

  • @TomOhle1

    I moved similar way away from the Q2 but had slightly different findings. I found that there was a noticeable image quality in favour of the Q2 with default Lightroom raw imports. If you are a RAW editor in a Lightroom workflow I think it’s worth being aware of the differences in sensor layout and the impact / importance on your choice of raw developer to get the most out of Fuji’s xtrans. Initially I had thought that the lens , acuity of the Fuji was sub par relative to the Leica. After running some tests based on Thomas Fitzgeralds Xtrans raw developer workflows I discovered that this was not a ‘soft lens’ issue, but a workflow issue. In an Xtrans raw friendly workflow like capture one or especially DXO or Iridient developer, the detail and accuity that the X100v can pick up is right up there with the Q2 in my humble opinion (Minus obvious sensor resolution differences) and for my tastes I actually find the output from this workflow to look much better on the Fuji than from the Leica.
    Other things that I was hoping to share - I find the missing joystick on the X100v to be disappointing, i prefer the joystick on the 100F. I don’t really like the swipe gestures. The Leica manual focus feel is vastly superior IMHO. However I do not feel that the Leica build quality feels hugely better than the X100 with the exception of the side door on the X100v.
    Anyway enjoy your x100v, I do feel that it’s a camera that you love more and more as you use it more and more.

    The not a 35mm lens complaint on a Q2 is rubbish though. If you shoot it in 35mm lens crop mode. You will get a 35mm F1.9 equivalent fullframe lens in depth of field. That is still better than a fuji x100v that has an equivalent 35mm F3.0 fullframe lens in depth of field. AND You still get more megapixels /higher resolution than an x100v even after the crop.

    If the Q2 were the same price as the X100V, which would you choose? Right?? The Q2 is miles ahead of the X100V in every category. The X100V can be adapted to use the WCL lens, the Q2 can be cropped to achieve a narrower FOV, so they are both "flexible" in that sense, although the Q2 doesn't need an additional lens. The Q2 is weather sealed out of the box, the X100V isn't (needs a filter and adapter). The Q2 is full frame, better image quality, better low light performance, better lens, better built. I own a X-Pro2 and GFX50R, and love them both, so I have nothing against Fujifilm, but to justify switching from the Q2 to the X100V seems to price savings related only.

    Whatever works to you is the camera makes more sense. Personally , Q2 is a better choice… a way superior lens, better sensor, IQ, ergonomic, control layout, EVF, manual focus experience, built quality, the luxury feel in hand, OIS, true IP rated weather resistance are what differentiate Q2 from other options. I PP almost all pictures, so I don’t use film Sim which is the biggest advantageous feature Fuji has over the Leica.

    I am totally stressed. I purchased a new XPro3 and kitted it out with 23mmf2, 16mmf2.8 and 35mmf2 a few months ago. I love the camera, the IQ, handling and size. Its my EDC camera. I want the Q2 and I don't know why. I nearly purchased from the Leica online store but pulled out. I know they are a superb camera but the little voice inside me started asking why am I buying a camera with locked focal length when my XPro 3 covers more? I dont really believe in the crop modes on the Q2 and to be honest think you have to be kidding yourself in thinking its going to solve your 28 only focal length limit. Yes the Q2 has 47mp of resolution but when I sat down and thought about it, I have never ever printed a photo any larger than 5x7. All my photos live on my drives and I enjoy them by looking at them in my screen. The whole " look at me, I have a Leica" thing really isn't a reason. I dunno....perhaps its the overwhelming amount of Q2 videos on CZcams that make one feel that without owning one they are missing out. I downloaded some RAW DNG files made with a Q2 and played with them on PS and really couldn't see anything exciting aside from the resolution which is achievable with an X-T5. If they were $3000 cheaper then I probably wouldnt be typing this and would probably have snapped one up, but for 28mm I really actually know I will get buyers remorse once it lands here and I see that the XPro will probably get more use as it offers greater flexibility. Thanks for making the video. I don't believe you made the wrong decision.
