Kitt, I appreciate you, your content, and this review. I bought my R2 in summer of 2022 because I was struggling and needed a way to write with search, cloud functionality and some basic standard tech. I had a iPad Pro 12.9 but I didn’t want to use it for work and I didn’t need all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, the Remarkable didn’t deliver for me.
I was shocked to see basic obvious things on the R2 were omitted. I’d just assumed the basics would be there. This is when I realized the cost of the device relative to what it can do can’t be justified.
I hope the new CEO can get them on track because a strategy of saying distraction free as a feature worth paying for is wearing thin. In this market paying the equivalent of iPad prices for what is essentially an electric legal pad or a super thin 1970’s IBM Select typewriter with basic cloud functionality is not sustainable.

Hi Kit, I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole of your videos. About to buy the Remarkable. I just wanted to write this comment, not sure if you’ll read it, to let you know that you are doing amazing. Your creative production efforts are seen and appreciated in these fantastic videos. Sometimes you may feel like you are questioning why you even do these things you do, career, hobby, whatever it may be. But I would just like to tell you that this craft you have been perfecting of these soothing but super informative videos has helped me immensely. You have gained a forever subscriber. I will follow you in whatever you do. Good luck and can’t wait to see what you do next! ❤

Got one Jan 1 love it. I just like to write notes with good paper feel. Using calligraphy for writing most of the time. Expensive but I hate writing on glass and this is good alternative for natural writing for now. My fine handwriting really shine on this.

Nice to see this video from you. I don’t think it is the worst device because personally based on what it was designed for it actually does it well. I have both the remarkable and the Supernote A5X and even with all the functionality of the Supernote, I prefer the Remarkable. The writing experience and design is awesome. I found based on my use case, the extra and awesome functions of the Supernote dont make it more superior because I don’t use those function in my use case and I see equally amount if people selling there devices as well to just want the simple pen/paper experience (which remarkable offers). I don’t care that it’s limited because I also have an iPad, where I can access my kindle and other apps on with a backlight. I truly use it for what it was designed for and that’s a great notebook replacement and writing/notetaking. Maybe because I’m not super techie that’s helps in my appreciation with the limited function of the Remarkable (not sure). I do agree, as the digital landscape and the world is changing, Remarkable might have challenges by not adding more tools but also have e-ink market changes, I personally feel if an tablet adds app such as the Supernote they shouldn’t be considered in the same category and now should be placed directly against an iPad /Samsung. I think the e-ink devices need a shake up in how they categorize the devices. Remarkable will also get the end of the stick in comparison videos because it purposely designed to be limited I feel people make to those comparison video for content but it also confuses a lot of people and buyers when more than likely that’s all they need was a remarkable but they think they going to use all the functionality of a Supernote when its really about their ability to organize themselves and the simplicity of the remarkable does that. There definitely a market for the more advanced writer and user of the other devices but the remarkable is a great simplistic starting out device and as your need change, your upgrade.

Quite the lengthy with no mention in price. I have a remarkable 2 and iPad Pro. I love both. But the criticism comes down to price.
Remarkable wants to be simple and really, really good at one thing. The writing experience. This experience shouldn’t come at a premium, it does less than the rest, but costs the same.
There’s phones that have a singular focus, “phone” lacks many features to aid with focus, the price reflects that. Remarkable’s price should too

I found it a bad investment. It is too dark. In 99% of my use cases, the light is not enough. If you want to use it, especially for reading, you have to be sitting out in the direct sunlight, or have a lamp directly pointed at it, no matter how strong the room light is. THAT is the only single truth about Remarkable 2@@KitBetts-Masters

My wife has a Remarkable 2 and doesn’t use it. I have a Boox Note Air 2+ and I use it quite a bit. But the way the file system works, and the way things are organized in general, on the Boox drives me nuts. I find it to be both confusing and over complicated. I’m looking for simplicity and I don’t want to spend half of my time trying to understand where things are and how to move things around (which is my impression of the Boox). I may be taking over my wife’s Remarkable 2 soon. I’m deep into the Apple ecosystem and use the iPad for most heavy lifting. I use the Boox for mostly note taking. I’m about ready to sell the Boox and move to the Remarkable 2 I think.

On the other hand I do have color and backlight (very helpful under dark conditions). Hm, maybe the day will come I go back to RM2...

having a hard time on deciding on this or an a5x2 (releasing march/april). will be used primarily for note taking in class and schoolwork. i really want the remarkable because of the name theyve made for themself, reputation, and the overall look of it. as far as features though ive heard with supernote you can tage keywords and search for them and notebooks have table of contents which i feel would be great school features. seriously TORN.

You're all probably gonna think I'm crazy but I bought a Tab s8 a while back and I put a specific paperfeel screen protector on it. I've been using it to take notes for quite some time now and I got used to it and now I really like it. I can turn on either focus mode or do not disturb mode but to be honest I don't always need to be in distraction free mode. The note app I use almost replicates the Remarkable experience perfectly with nearly every feature. But I do like that I can add color or color highlights to my notes on my tab s8. But to be fair I gave the Remarkable a shot. To be honest I just didn't feel like I was using it any differently than my Tab s8. It just seemed like I was carrying another device around but doing the same thing and spending another $350. So I ended up sending it back. I see the appeal for some but it just not needed for my use case.

I do a lot of maths notetaking, and would benefit greatly from an "unbounded canvas". Currently I walk around with notebooks wherever I go, and think I should upgrade to an eInk tablet. Problem is whether the Remarkable is worth it. For instance, most computer math notetaking is compiled in LaTeX, for which there is no good "handwriting-to-code" converter (and probably will stay so). So my notetaking would just be an interactive drawing board. Is this enough to justify the price?

Ability to take pictures, read books and make notes, annotate. Record Audio of the classes. Feels like writing ( unlike the iPad which is horrible with that glossy finish). you can convert multi-selected pages into a single text page and then search there - a possible workaround, but still far away from a real handwritten text search. Since RM has introduced continous pages the Text is flowing through the whole page without using Textboxes - therefore you cannot "move" text around.

Hi Kit, may I ask please, is the reMarkable 2, as I'm thinking, the best device for an author who wants to write by hand (but deliver text)? I haven't got a good mental picture yet of how one would edit handwriting and text i.e. moving paragraphs and inserting sentences. Could a novel with illustrations be crafted to a finished product on it? Also can it read terrible handwriting and can it spell check. Many thanks for your videos and for your time in answering this, James.

    • @KitBetts-Masters
      @KitBetts-Masters  Před 8 měsíci +1

Hiya, no, not the best for full authoring. Really just good enough to start bits of text that you would edit later on a computer. The closest to this this would be Boox, or maybe supernote. But even those, you'd probably want to be doing final edits on a computer. Handwriting recognition is good on all three though, an Di could see you being easily able to draft the chapters first on the remarkable by hand, then first edit with the keyboard. Have a look at some of my comparison videos. I have a few specifically for writers.

However I do feel that I am honest and balanced in my reviews, I always call out negatives, and I do not spend a lot of time promoting devices that I do not think are good. Check out my reviews of the Lenovo, for one example.

Hello, just had one more thought about this comment. I'm wondering, are you meaning the adverts that appear in the middle of my content? If so, please understand that it's CZcams that has control of how often you see these ads and that I have no control over their content. It might be that remarkable ads are appearing in my video, but that's not a sponsorship of me, that's just Google's advertising machine! I don't like all the ads either, and I watch so much CZcams, that I pay for the premium version, it's great, no ads!

@@KitBetts-Masters I thought you partnered with these folks. Thanks for telling me that. It's annoying when you are trying to get the best of the explanation and get suddenly cut by an ad. English is not my first language and I have to be honest on how hard is for me to follow what you are saying. Sometimes I have to go back and rewatch, doing that with tons of ads is a hard job. Thank you for your honesty.

Kit, can you share a referral discount code for Remarkable? The price of the device is expensive
