    I have been doing this for about 40 years, if its not real dirty, I use 1 part bleach, 3 parts water and a good squirt of any dishwashing liquid. You should always spray the cleaner from bottom to top, if not, you will have streaks, then rinse from top to bottom. Ps, if you want a nice smell, add about 3 ounces of odoban in the 2 gallon sprayer. If it's really dirty, I use 1 to 1 bleach/water with a squirt of soap. Just in case you wonder what the soap is for, that helps the bleach stick to the material, without soap, most of it just rolls off. Ps, I just buy the most economical soap, tather it is dish washing or laundry detergent.

      @@NRS375You should rinse it off before it dries. On hot sunny days, you might not have long and have to do it in sections.

    I hosed down my house finally after my neighbor went into a nursing home. She wouldn't let me clean with bleach. Ever hear that one before? She would scream like a banshee in my ear and I had to run into my house whenever I would use a cleaning agent. She actually had neighborhood spies who would come by and sniff. Neighbors, ugh! My siding looks brand spanking new. I used that brand Thirty Second Wash, I really wanted the containers so I could end up mixing my own as the product is used up quickly and could end up costing a few bucks. I mix my own with general bleach. Next time I'll get the pool shock but the reg bleach worked just fine mixed with dawn. Love that vinyl siding color, btw. Mine was 1970's grey. No damage still, and now looks brand new. Man the flies hated it and it drove every bug out of the siding from spiders to thousand leggers. Worked like a charm. Uh, I learned this on YT also. Thanks for y'all who take the time to teach us clueless out here, at least me anyway. You saved me a bundle. Considering I learned how to do masonry work and major pest control, and on and on and on.

    Also vinous siding oxidizes. (Run your finger across vinyl, if you have a white powdery substance that’s oxidation). This process you use is correct. Buttt if you use a scrub brush on the tug spots you’ll take that oxidation off and you vinyl will have spots that look like a different color than the rest. If you have a 2k sq ft vinyl house that’s a lot of scrubbing. There are a lot of strong expensive chemicals used to remove oxidants but still require some scrubbing .

    Ya as a professional home washer. I do not care about people doing stuff like this . All for it . Just do not mix dawn dish soap as your surfactant. It literally says it on the label to not mix with bleach . I use a dedicated surfactant but you could maybe use a laundry soap instead. But do not use dawn. Mixing bleach with anything can potentially create pretty bad reactions.

    Tacky? NO.
    The surfactant (Dawn) *reduces the surface tension* of the solution.
    The reduced surface tension enables the solution to penetrate properly into the dirt and mildew so it can do its job.
    Without the surfactant, the solution will tend to "bead up" on the surface (like a freshly waxed car) and not penetrate into the dirt and mildew properly.

      @@homesteadhideaway "Tacky" is misleading and is not a layman's term for reduced surface tension. The layman's term for reduced surface tension of water is "wetter". Surfactant makes water "wetter".

    • @cray1185
      @cray1185 Před rokem +1

      Pool shock is basically just a higher concentration chlorine (with the exception of NON-chlorine based pool/spa shock usually not as affective). If you have vegetation or are afraid of harming grass which is possible if it gets too much chlorine on it, you may want to do exactly what this video says to do, except use just Clorox bleach mixed at 1 part bleach to 3 parts water (even 4 parts water for minor mold and mildew).

      I just spray the cleaner on the siding with a manual pump spray bottle, 1 to 2 gallons, then pressure wash off with just hot water in the pressure washer so I don't mess up the pressure washer. Nothing worse than using something to mess up an expensive pressure washer!

    • @awakenedsystems
      @awakenedsystems Před 28 dny

      The problem is that running it through a pressure washer (downstream injector after the pump), is that it dilutes the chemicals too much, so the mold doesn't get cleaned off properly.
      Even with a low pressure chemical spray nozzle.
      Your best bet is using a dedicated sprayer for the chemical solution.

      Pool shock or pool essentials it has SH, which is bleach. You have to find a soup or degreaser to mix it with and mix them both with water . Then dwell it on whatever your cleaning. Don’t use red tip or any strong tip, just the one with low pressure should be good.

      Was looking for that in the vid too....he says it in an unusual manner, "1/8 to 1/4 ratio to water"......I take that mean he uses a range, of either 1 part shock to 8 parts water ( weaker solution), up to 1 part shock to 4 parts water ( stronger). That is the more conventional way to state this.......and then he adds (in either case) a smidge of Dawn soap.
