He told me it was nothing I had done, it is genetic, and my mother had it. Now, I take a vitamin Macutene (X2) and it has helped a lot, but the grid still doesn't have straight lines. My mom had Wet Macular Degeneration in both eyes. It happened in an instant. Treatment progressed in the years between the first eye and the second eye. She was part of a trial study for the eye injection of AVASTIN, which stopped the progress. It later became an approved drug.
    She also had a GAS BUBBLE injected into her eye. The doc explained the bubble effect was like a carpenters level. It moved the blood away from the retina when she laid on her bed face down. She needed to do this for 50 minutes of every hour for I can't remember how many days.
    Her last team of doctors, California Retina Consultants and Research Foundation, are part of multiple National clinical trials. I asked her doctor if they were working with STEM CELLS. He replied, we're working on something even better...ALTERING DNA.

    I had sudden vision changes in my right eye about a year ago. Interestingly, I don't see distortion of the Amsler grid, but when I'm reading, words are distorted and lines are wavy. I was diagnosed with pigment epithelial detachment. The diagnostics done a year ago apparently established a baseline. I go back soon for the same tests to see how things have changed. I can say that reading is difficult these days. My distance vision for driving is excellent, although lines in the distance are a little wavy.

    40 years ago, an ophthalmologist told me to wear good quality sunglasses at all times, even in overcast weather. I bought Serengeti’s (when they were patented by Corning Glass). These cost me £250, which was a massive price 40 years ago, but I’m convinced my macular degeneration would have been a whole lot worse had I not bought the best. I’ve evangelised for Serengeti ever since. People used to mock me for wearing dark glasses and i got tired of explaining they were driving glasses and the ophthalmologist told me to protect my eyes. It was thus brilliant to be vindicated, albeit 40 years on. I’m about to have micropulse laser treatment (free of charge on the NHS in the UK. I worry for the Americans who pay through the nose for a basic human right!)

    Can y’all do a video sometime down the road on Acute or Chronic Community Aquired Pneumonia (for people who suddenly started getting it consistently? I’ve had it 10 times out of 12 months. I have it now as a matter of fact. I was also told I have Bands of linear atelectasis of the right upper lobe, low right lower lobe and left upper lobe. I also had another abnormal EKG (I constantly have those too). I have to find a cardiologist that can help me and also treat my POTS syndrome. No one around here knows anything about POTS.
    Anyway if down the road you could discuss something about consistently getting the pneumonia and atelectasis and what your thoughts on it are and more information about the atelectasis. That’d be wonderful.
    (On a side note, I was bad enough to be hospitalized bc of the linear bands and pneumonia. On my second day in the hospital they ran a Respiratory PRC test - swab - and I am positive for coronavirus. It isn’t related to covid 19. It is something like coronavirus NL63. I don’t know much about it, other than all my husband could find is that it is like a cold or flu and can range from mild to moderate). I knew I felt like I had something else besides pneumonia going on. Oh & my potassium was quite low and not sure if it was high or low but an abnormal magnesium and other abnormal tests).

I have been stable with close f/u but no injections since June 2022. It takes me 3-4 days to have full activities after the injections.

I had a condition where the retinal nerve inside the eyeball tore away from the back of the eyeball a little bit and allowed my eye to bleed into the eyeball. Now I have floaters in that eye. Was there anything I could have done to prevent this? Is this just a something that happens as you get older which is what the doctor at the hospital here told me that was 10 years ago and I haven't had a lot of problems since with the eye but my floaters are still there and they interrupt my vision quite often

    I have the wet kind, and have had it for 13 years. I was lucky enough to find the best retina specialist in the world, and seeing him has worked. I have very light green eyes, and it appears that light eyed people are more prone to the disease. My advice is do not smoke, I did from age 9 to 48, and lived with a smoker for 10 years. Both my ex-husband and I were heavy smokers. When I moved to South Florida, I swam in the ocean every weekend, or any day I was not working. Stayed in the water for hours, and did not wear sunglasses. My advice to everyone, do not smoke, and wear sun glasses, especially if you live in a tropical climate. Also eat lots of salmon (wild caught) and spinach. Find a doctor that you like and with whom you feel comfortable. The first specialist I saw was nasty, did not answer questions, and told me "I am not going to give you a medical education" when I asked questions. The second retina specialist is my current doctor, who took time to answer questions, has a lot of patience, a great, compassionate attitude. He saved my vision which is near perfect since my cataract surgery.

    Damn, I don't know anyone that eats more kale than me or uses more sun protection (I even carry a sun umbrella everywhere!) and I just got told I have the dry form today. Another one chalked up to 'just my luck'.

    I been going to same eye doctor. He never said anything about Macular degeneration. Only had catracts. Go for eye exam. Get new glass which too strong. Go back to same eye doctor. See another doctor. To tell me I have Amd in both eyes. Left eye dry the other wet. I need injection for the right eye. Why my eye doctor didn't tell me.

    Sorry to divert from this video, but had to comment on the last 'Shorts' one with the slapping. What on earth are they thinking? Wish I hadn't seen it but think it is so important to see what actually happens when someone hits someone, as opposed to the sanitising that happens on television drama - someone hits someone, big sound effect, they get up and carry on, etc., giving younger people an impression that is realistic. You could probably kill someone with one strike. Madness. Need to try and forget it now!

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  Před rokem

      Drusen is more a sign of aging and can be related to macular degeneration

    Sorry. I cannot, will not ever include kale in my diet!!! Unless of course, it’s an absolute cure for old age and will guaranteed return me to the vitality of my 30s. Way too much like lawn clippings (which are probably just as good tasting).

      I did a list of all the vitamins and minerals we need down one column. The next column I put a food such as egg and checked off all the vitamins and minerals in the egg. It does not mean you get enough from that one food. Then the next column I put another food such as broccoli and check off what it contains. I also do not eat any processed foods, grains , sugars or starches to keep my glucose in the normal range.

    Of course, the most obvious thing to do is reduce eye strain so watching porn in the dark is totally out. This will reduce the chance of having a heart attack too. This is especially so for Canadians as Mistress T. lives there.
