Its has never ever been called the (British open). Its (The Open Championship) started in 1860 in Scotland. Played for the first time outside Scotland in 1894. British open is an Americanism. As for America having the hardest championship in the world is only your opinion. Makes no sense to call it anything other than what it was named many many years ago.
