  • I don't mean this video to sound ungrateful at all, but I do mean it to let companies know that I will NOT review their products just because they send them to me. I only promote products and companies that I would spend, or have spent my own money on. In fact, I use many products in my videos that I went out and paid full price for, even though a different manufacturer was offering to give me, or even pay me to use theirs. The simple fact is that I won't promote a product just because I'm being paid to or because I got something for free.
    When it comes to these particular binders... they just randomly showed up one day, without any sort of note, email, phone call, or any type of correspondence. What's even worse is that I have said in the comments over and over again countless times that I have tried these and think they are an absolute joke, yet someone still though that it would be a good idea to send them to me. I have been hauling equipment and using chain binders for 20 years, so there's a reason I use what I use, and do things the way that I do. So I decided to make this video in hopes of stopping other manufacturers or other people from wasting their time and money.

      @@selfloadbinderhere’s some fun facts for you..
      I am a CZcams vlogger. I vlog and make videos about the things that go on in my life, and share them with my monthly audience of over one million different individual people, that make up an average of 4.5 million monthly views. So if I were to get sued by a manufacturer over a video I’ve made…. I will absolutely make a series of videos documenting my experience through the process, and will be including every detail, including the name of the company and it’s representatives that are suing me, so that those one million different people can follow along on my journey.
      I’ve also heard that you’ve been calling my competitors in this area to try and dig up dirt on me, and I heard that you told them you’re going to file a lawsuit against me. You see, even though we are “competitors”, we are also friends and we all work together. So anything you say to them, will go straight to me.
      Here’s the simple facts of the matter, I think your product is garbage and I would never buy it. I never said you sent it to me, even though you literally put it in a box yourselves and sent it straight to me from your facility, at no cost to me. I also never said your name in the video, or description, and even blacked it out on the binders themselves so it wouldn’t be shown. Everything I said in the video was 100% true, so you have absolutely no legal leg to stand on, and I absolutely will counter sue for all of my legal costs, as well as defamation of character for you trying to paint me as a slanderous individual if I were to be sued for such a thing.
      The binders are already in the box and will be shipped out on their way back to you on Friday so you can give the purchaser their money back. So the best thing you can do is walk away from this so that this video runs it’s course and fades out like all do. Or, alternatively…. You can choose to keep this going and I will continue to do my job as a vlogger documenting what’s going on in my life and putting it out there for millions to see.
      Your choice 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's a thankless job, neither the workers nor the bean counters want to listen to you when nothing is going wrong, but you can be sure that everyone will be looking at you if anything ever did. I did different work, but we had some of the same safety issues. So I can imagine a safety guy promoting something that all of the workers ended up thinking was a waste of time and money, but that even after the last one was thrown away that he still considered time and money well spent. I'm not saying that this was true in your case, it's just a hypothetical. For example, if a worksite has a lax attitude about safety, and the guys only use half the chains that they should be using to hold down their loads, maybe getting them to use a new toy will get them to use the right number of chains, and that can lead to better worker safety practices in the long run. And one lawsuit avoided will pay for a ton of those crappy binders.

      Power locks, and power windows? I will take them all day over a truck with manual locks and manual windows. I bought an 88 GMC 1500 with manual locks and windows...It sucked. I am 5'8", had to lean way the fuck over to unlock the passenger door, and good fucking luck rolling up or down the passenger window while driving.
      I'll also take captain seats over a bench seat all day, every day. I do not like having to hold onto the wheel with a death grip if I am trying to have fun on a twisty road.
      On the other hand? Yeah, I want actual switches and knobs for the controls of my vehicle. I would prefer a manually adjustable seat, and god damn would it be nice if transfer cases used levers again.
      Course, I'll take a cordless impact over a breaker bar and a ratchet all day, and if I need drive 50+ staples? I would take a cordless stapler over an Arrow T50.
      Simple has it place, when you want something dead reliable. But technology has its place, when it is durable _enough_ and offers a significant improvement in day to day use, be it speed, comfort, wear and tear on your body, etc.
      These binders look like shit. Way too many steps, and I am confused as how the manufacturer thinks an unprotected zerk fitting is going to survive.

    So, SELF Load Binder company has jumped in here to try and defend themselves, and it’s not going well 😂.
    For starters, they admit that the name SELF is just an acronym, which to me is deceptive advertising, especially when you put the words “load binder” right after it…. Especially since in my opinion it is not Safe, Easy, Light, or Fast. In fact, to me it is the opposite of all of those.
    Second, they are apparently upset that I’m saying they sent these to me when they did not. But then they also said in another comment that they drop shipped them to me directly from their facility, in a box with all the manufacturers packing material and literature, with their return address on the package, and not one single bit of correspondence saying who it was from. So how am I supposed to know that they didn’t send them to me, when they quite literally sent them to me…
    But what makes it even better, is that I never even said they sent them to me in the first place, I simply said that the binders were sent to me, while never mentioning their name, and even blacking it out on the binders themselves so that it wouldn’t be shown.
    So great job @self load binders…. The vast majority of people watching this had no idea what brand these binders were…. Until you decided to tell everyone 😂

    Very well said! You forgot to mention one very important factor to the rest of us - initial purchase price. I've got to imagine the cost is significantly higher than an import ratchet binder.
    One quick tip from a 35 year lowbedder to help your speed... hook the link of the binder(not the hook) in the keyhole on the deck. You now have only 2 connections to make instead of 3. Although the loose end of your chain may not ride very well on that steel deck. I have a recessed keyhole row down the center of my Landoll to trap the loose chain end, and it will stay on my apitong deck, unlike steel. it may not seem like a big deal, but if you have 18 binders on multiple pieces of equipment, it adds up. Keep up the good work. I REALLY enjoyed this video.

  • @MistDaemon
    @MistDaemon Před rokem +15

    I think you made a mistake with this as you missed something which I think is rather important.
    The initial setup and everything makes a point, but what about if you drive and then need to tighten it? That seems far worse. With the normal one, it is simple, quick and easy to tighten it. But with the other one you need to pull out tools, loosen the locks, tighten it, the tighten the locks and if you have to repeat that multiple times for each one, that is a major pain, means you are outside of the cab for longer, not driving, so it is even less safe and costs you time and money.
    So far, you battery review is still my favorite, the one which you asked about it, they said it did everything that you needed, then when you got it, it didn't and they got upset that you hadn't done the review, so then you used it to hold the seat up when you were working on the Jeep.

    I hauled steel and machinery, and the ratchet and snap binders was all I ever used ... Mainly because I guess other than the 3"straps
    introduced later, they were all that was available. I found the old school thread type binders to be ample for anything I ever hauled. Loads shift and settle, and ALL tie-down systems need to be adjusted from time to time. In my opinion, you're spot-on!! If you want to cinch serious loads down, use binders that have done the job for decades! Of course for utility trailer and pickup truck cargo, the small self retracting binders are great! I never got around to buying / using so called "speed binders" but at the same time, I stopped using ratchet binders as well and went back to the old style lever binders. Yes the lever binders are very dangerous if you use them incorrectly or not paying attention but the fact is, lever binders maintain their tension all through the transport and are unaffected by bad roads, bumps, and vibrations. The ratchet binders on the other hand will loosen themselves while in transport and when you have a 90,000 lb machine, or a concrete structure, or even while hauling steel, the last thing you want are your chains becoming loose. Trust me, my right leg has permanent damage why lever binders are dangerous but when used correctly, they will not come loose and that load will not move one inch especially under heavy braking. Ratchet binders on the other hand I've had loosen themselves in as little as 5-miles of travel which I have to pull over in bad spots to re-tighten. The so called speed binders will be no different even with the locking tabs, they will still work themselves loose as with the one you demonstrated, only one side is locked down which leaves the other side to rotate as the road conditions dictate. This coming from a trucker with 37-years as a heavy hauler / oversize loads in construction transportation.

  • @upnorthyooper1196
    @upnorthyooper1196 Před rokem

    You are absolutely right, the speed binders I bought won't stay tight, they didn't have the lock on them. Been hauling since 1984 the hand racket is the way to go. Every time I stop I will walk around the truck and if I want to tighten a chain a couple pulls on the ratchet and you are good.

I pay for an Ad blocker which works really well, unfortunately it doesn't block "paid promotions", certain other "heavy" channels seem to rely on these which is part of why I watch you and rarely watch them. Love watching you, Grumpy and the rare treat of your family.

      Those sponsored videos usually pay 4 to 5 times what the CZcams ad revenue would be for a video, so I get why people do it, but I just can’t unless it’s something I actually stand behind.

    Ditto! I've been using the lever style binders (before the screw type binders were even available) for over 59 years. DOT requires two binders bc haulers have gotten lazy over the years and won't load & properly tie down their loads. I do it with one lever binder & it'll be tighter than 2 chains with 2 ant type binders.

    I know the feeling. Not a CZcamsr, but bought a an off-road capable camp trailer. Based on CZcamsrs “recommendations”, bought a bunch of expensive frivolous crap that on a month long trip from Florida to NM, AZ, UT and back, most of that frivolous 💩 went unused and just took up space being hauled around. Pick and choose stuff to use carefully and wisely and save yourself $$. Thanks for the reminder Casey.

    I've done coil steel hauling and those ratchet binders are simply the best thing out there. Those others as Casey puts it are trash! I refused to use those auto binders and the ratchet binders are much quicker and easier to use even over the snap binders not to mention safer! Try getting smacked by a snap binders lever or pinched by one lol.

    • @ThePaulv12
      @ThePaulv12 Před rokem +1

      Yeah man. The over-center chain binders are banned in some steel companies including mine. They're actually pretty dangerous considering you need to use a pipe to tighten and loosen. If you're using them every day the liklihood of getting smacked in the head by the pipe flying off the handle becomes likely. We're only allowed chain ratchet binders with rated hooks.

    Casey I'm like you, using ratcheting binders. I take a 18 inch heel bar and put it through the big link. That way I can get it tight.😊

      We have a 1-year warranty and 30 day money back guarantee. We have thousands of units in the field, mostly with towmen and equipment rentals companies. We also have a weeks-long wait due to backorder, mostly re-orders from existing customers. So yes, we have immense confidence in our product. But we don't give away free load binders. We drop shipped the binders Mr. LaSalle is reviewing after somebody purchased them on his behalf.

    I had a crazy amount of respect for you before this video but now I have even more respect. You didn't bash a particular brand. You didn't say no one should use it. You just gave your honest opinion and explained why you think the manual binders are superior. Probably why I've never seen one of these "automatic binders"

  • @3rdpig
    @3rdpig Před rokem +6

    I could understand how the speed binders would be quicker if you had a long way to tighten the binder, but the whole nature of chains and binders means that's never going to be the case. Way back when I was hauling I didn't even have those ratcheting binders, I used the cantilever kind and just wrapped the excess chain around them to keep them from coming loose.

    If you go to the website of the leader in sales of these type binders they brag in large letters how their product is in use on "over 30,000 trucks" across the country. Sounds good until you realize that the other 99% of trucks are still using the old, tried-and-true manual binders that have been in use for generations. And, as you say, there is a reason for that. "Stand tall. Shoot straight. And always speak the truth."

    The actual "speed binders" don't have the locking tabs so that issue is nonexistent with those, I do believe they hold just fine on their own as far as I've seen. However, tools are still required, It's not much if any faster than regular binders, They are far pricier, etc. The one benefit I see with speed binders, at least the actual "speedbinder" ones is it saves a lot of energy if you had to do a lot of them or put them on and take them off frequently.
