For people that don't have carpool lanes, it's odd driving in them when you can be there legally. Just like toll roads when you're from out of town. Drove one in Colorado and I felt like I was doing something wrong the whole time.

I worked with a guy who used the diamond lane all the time and got caught often. He never learned and had the gall to complain with the excuse "I was running late!" Well, that was because he chose to work the early shifts as a way to brag about his seniority, but always woke up late and wouldn't change his routine. Go figure.

I have a fasttrack, can I be alone in the car? Or if I am in a different car without my fasttrack but with 2+ in the vehicle can I still get on the fastrack lane and just pay the ticket or its limited to only drivers with the fastrack pass?
You can be alone with your FasTrak with those sensors, without those sensors and there’s a HOV no need for a toll tag FasTrak obviously you still need +2 or +3 people depending on the freeway.
You won’t get a ticket because they will charge your toll tag for being a solo rider
Can anyone cite research that shows the benefits of the carpool lane? Besides encouraging electric vehicle purchases and minor carpooling, what good does it actually provide? All I see is a victimless crime, income stream for the government and a bunch of cars going no where in the non carpool lanes. The pollution impact of cars sitting there not in the carpool lane vs. having all lanes open to everyone would be interesting. I feel like all lanes open would increase traffic flow. I fully support carpool lane cheating. Our time is valuable and all I see is a bunch of sheep taking orders. Carpool lane cheating is risk vs reward, the reward being time, the most valuable resource.

We don't have them where I'm from that I know of in Wisconsin and I'm glad!!! The way I look at it, we pay taxes for our roads and if you make an extra lane for traffic with my money then we all should be able to use it. Just another way the government trying to control your life and make more revenue off of us that are trying to get to work so we can pay our taxes to build more roads to give us more citations.

I definitely will agree with you that the carpool lane or diamond lane as we call it is a fallacy it should be completely eliminated I see this all the time that the carpool lane does not really work to relieve traffic the carpool lane is basically as I call it a luxury Lane for those who have electric vehicles or motorcycles or buses with people and that's about it but I've seen those carpool lanes when it get real busy they tend to jam up so my idea is this to tell the governor and the State Transportation board and Caltrans to start widening the freeways by about three lanes each way because California the population is just going to keep growing and growing and growing at about half the people that are driving on the roads in California are illegals and if it ain't that Uber and Lyft are also clogging up the roads that is just my two cents in.

Welcome to California, where you get fined for driving on a lane on a road that you most likely paid for with your taxes. All those environmentalists can speak all the bogus they want in support of the carpool lanes. Truth of the matter is that there is nothing good about it except extra money for the state. Carpool lanes just causes more traffic congestion and more greenhouse emissions which defeats the whole purpose. Make the lanes all free go. I don't blame the CHP, i blame the lawmakers

It's simple math! A 4 person carpool removes 3 vehicles from the regular lanes. How is that so hard to figure. Most of those highways are 4 or 5 lanes overall so 3 less cars per 4 person hov adds up to fewer cars than if there's no diamond lane. Say 50 cars for 1 mile of hov lane. That removes 150 cars from that same 1 mile stretch of road. Not to mention 150 cars less exhaust.
I am sorry but if the CHP is going to write tickets over it that is their own doing they do have to share the blame. They could spend their time arresting shoplifters instead. And I know there are plenty of them in California.

I drive a Volt EV car There is no transponder needed on any cars because there is no toll on 6 of the 7 major highways And sure we get rush hour But i work off hours The USA charges people in Major cities for grid lock there own city highway design failures

It is where you get to drive in the fast lane as long as it runs.You must have 2 or more people in the car. Drivers that work at the same company will also get together in one car to go to work and that is called 'car pooling'....

There's a guy in a ford fusion on I880 who uses fake police flashers hidden underneath his sun visor and flashes people out of the carpool lane so he can cut through. I've seen him a few times pull it off. People go to all manner of lengths to cheat in the bay area.
