    I was looking everywhere for this info! It looked like you needed a wrench but no wrench fits in there. Thank you so much for this video! I was able to switch my broken lamp socket out

    As of 04/19/2021, the lamp socket is currently unavailable. Good video!

    Great video, thanks!
    BTW, what would happen if the neutral and hot wires were reversed?

    • @fixitwithzim
      @fixitwithzim  Před 5 lety

      George Baron Good question! Normally, the hot comes through the small center contact in the socket base, the hot is also ran through the socket switch. If the hot and neutral are reversed, the hot will now enter through the threaded portion of the socket and not be switched (switch would then be controlling the neutral). This greatly increases the risk of shock hazard. The bulb will still however work as it normally would.

    Hi. I have a 3-way floor lamp that I want to make into a 3-WAY that burns 250 watts bulbs. Can you please tell me exactly what I need to buy? I need to buy online and can't make heads or tails what I need.

    What is the watt of the socket?

      Check the link in the description. It should tell you.

    What if the base of the socket won't unscrew from neck of the lamp? I have two lamps that seem like it is glued, not twisted on. I am SO frustrated!!

    • @fixitwithzim
      @fixitwithzim  Před 2 lety

      Get a pair of channel locks on it and twist back and forth. That should break it loose

      I'm having this issue too.. I've got the socket off no problem. But the goofy little base that holds the socket/threads onto the lamp does noooot come off. Have the replacement part and looking at it, its just threaded. But trying to unscrew the part that's on there.. ugh..

      @mom42boys Před 2 lety

      @@mmz12 I wound up using locking pliers to get the sockets on my two lamps apart. I put a rag around them first to not mar the surface and then used the locking pliers to be able really grasp one side. It took some doing but I got both apart and both lamps now work. 😊
