I'd argue that some of these are not really "I want" songs in the musical theatre sense because they don't come early in the show and set up the motivations for the rest of the show, which is the classic definition. But for just a ranking of songs about wanting things... great ranking, A+!
o wow i didn't know an "i want" song a real term that has an official definition. makes perfect sense tho. *edit after watching the whole video* i had suggested the flop stoppers title song, b/c in it vivian demarco explains what she wants the boys to do. which ends up driving the rest of the story. plus, i don't think flop stoppers gets enough love anyway. the ranking still gets a thumbs up from me, i thought i'd mention flop stoppers here since it didn't make the list but based on your definition would have fit perfectly.
totally agree that I wouldn't necessarily classify all of these as "I want" songs, but still a fun video. P.S. if anyone wants to learn all the details about I want songs, musical theatre mash has a 3 video series breaking it all down: czcams.com/video/eYIqroivLLI/video.html
I feel like “What Do You Want, Paul?” should’ve been top 10 because of the amount of times the word “want” was said, but all the top ten (and even 20) were absolute bangers that probably outweighed “What Do You Want, Paul?” on desirability alone (and Let It Out was #1 again, so that was great!)
Seriously! I can't believe nobody is noticing this. How can that song be so incredibly low? And If I Believed is also from Dylan and somehow lower than Granger Danger??? Makes 0 sense.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved this ranking but I feel like ‘What Tim Wants’ should’ve been ranked higher than 27. It was a really powerful song considering the Dad’s position, but... can’t argue really. You’re not me after all lol
i think the dislike of this song is because (in my opinion) dylan voice sounds better and although it still sounds great alone i think he really shines in ensemble, especially as jafar
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I requested this a couple of videos ago so I didn’t think you’ll actually do it. Personally, I would’ve put What Do You Want, Paul at the top 10 mainly because of how self-aware it is, and CaliforMIA a little higher because it doubles as a love song between Lex and Ethan but everything else is solid
You should check out Starry if you haven't. It would be awesome for you to do a ranking video of it. Plus it does not break the rule of if a musical has a Dylan Saunders solo I will cry. It is Starkid adjacent! (A.k.a. I include it in my Starkid/TBC playlist.)
I absolutely love starry and iv made a few videos on it :) i actually was just listening to it. my ranking of starry: czcams.com/video/kZkq_4E6uFg/video.html community ranking of starry: czcams.com/video/_cgdpDsab1M/video.html
Ugh I really dislike "Let It Out" and it always tops every list :P Everything other than the "alien solo" voice is fine, I just am not a fan of the upper register used there.
"I want" songs are songs in musicals that sets the goal of the/one of the main characters. Basically it's just a song where a character expresses desire for something. The title means that person who made this video is ranking the "I want" songs from Starkid shows, based on how much they like them. Hope that explained it
Barb's Lament totally should have counted as an I Want song
me, seeing the song I suggest on the community tab was the top 1: * smiling proudly* yes, father will hear of this
Mine was #2
*father will be pleased*

Wow, "I want" fairness for Paint Me did we take into account how precious this song is

@@starkidpotteryt I didn't notice those!
I mostly agree with the rank but personally I think missing you deserves better kajfkamd
What do you want Paul should have been in the top 10
i hate to say it but... you're missing feast or famine, the most literal "I WANT"song in all of starkid ghfjdskghf
I was just about to say that
Dark sad lonely knight being so low physically hurt me
Top choices are 1000% correct but I would argue a decent chunk of these aren't actually "I want" songs
Are these ranked by how good they are as I Want songs or by how much you like them?
hearted but not answered xd
Is feast or famine an I want song?
Ya I guess it would be I completely forgot about that
They do want Wiggly I guess
Are these songs ranked on how much you like them or how much they seem like I want songs?
I ranked them based on how much I like them but they could be taken the other way if u agree with it. I just wasn’t sure how to do it for this one.
Why was missing you so low? sad
Ugh I really dislike "Let It Out" and it always tops every list :P
Everything other than the "alien solo" voice is fine, I just am not a fan of the upper register used there.
Lol that’s fine, I actually love the alien voice because I love switching back and forth when I’m singing it myself
I dont get the title
