      it took like a year to break 320 for me, but after that it was a lot easier to progress and learn and add new things/fix things on my form, and a year later i can break 400 consistensly and maaaaybe challenge 450. its all about the practise and the grind. stay loose and keep the practise simple enough. :)

      @@oddarntnes7079 100% agree with you. Update from this post, I 300 feet with accuracy is definitely pretty easy for me. Broke 350 a couple of times and feel like there is so much room for improvement with easy changes. Road to 400 here I come!

    Man, watching you show the difference between your old form and your current form really helped me understand form fundaments a lot better. I've been playing consistently for 2 years now and I've been struggling with my form the entire time. A lot of the time it feels like I'm pulling the disc around me, releasing too early or just being very inconsistent but this really helped explain the fundamentals of proper form. Its a lot clearer now and I'm really excited to implement these tips into my game. Biggest take-aways were making sure I'm not taking too wide of steps, relax my arm more, and make sure my free arm is rotating away from my reach back BUT keeping it close to my body as i whip that disc at the basket (more likely a tree because I'm gonna work on this on the course because I am a disc slinging goblin) Thank you for making this video!

    With that longer brace step, unless you have really exceptional hip mobility, it makes it much more difficult to open up your hips at the throw. Good tips man.

    I'm about to go try and implement these tips. Ive been playing on and off since 2009 with poor form. It is so difficult to change. Every time i try to work on it, I end up getting less distance or less accuracy, getting frustrated, then reverting back to my old ways. Very helpful video- hopefully I can finally start making some permanent changes!

    Great Video Tyler, lots of helpful info. My max distance with backhand currently is about 395 maybe 400. Been playing for a couple years but now I am really trying to focus on my form and throw farther. I have a few tournaments coming up at hornets nest and I hope to improve a lot by then, and your tips helped a lot. I never thought about specifically moving sideways until you brought it to my attention, I've always started to turn my back before my reach back and x step. Good luck to you man, cheers.

    Something that goes into leaning into the throw is staying kind on your toes, then straightening your lead leg for the brace. I've heard that Ezra really thinks about straightening his leg (and you can see it in his throws).

    Hi Tyler - thanks tons for making this video. It's great and very helpful to see you validate everything I have been working on my own form changes, and you add a few ideas like bending over the disc and doing a sideways walk-up. It's really hard to get form right because so many different approaches are out there, but after a lot of trial and error, watching tons of videos on Anthony Bodanza's channel and the Spin Doctor, and Dan Beto - those got me thinking and trying new things. Eventually I came to the same conclusions you articulate. Also helpful was watching the pro's slo-mo vids carefully to see what they actually are doing, instead of what they say they are doing. Now I am pretty much aligned with what you recommend. I'm an older thrower @ 67 years, but hoping to get some good distance gains 2023. I first started DG in 2020 and fell in love with it, but then quit for about a year but back throwing most days now. Back in 2020 I was throwing 275 with walk-up, but now I'm only throwing standstills while I work on my power pocket, the hit, and consistent release direction (hit those gaps) at about 150-175'. Confident I'll pickup 100-150' later this year. Thanks again for the good vid's. : )

    • @TylerTiede
      @TylerTiede  Před rokem +1

      I believe you’re talking about my 2nd point, so I’ll assume that’s what you meant.
      There is a difference between angling your run-up so your last step is more open, versus backpedaling down the tee pad. Whichever direction you are moving down the tee pad your feet should be pointed perpendicular to that motion, whether it’s straight down the tee pad or at a slight angle.

    Hey Tyler thanks for the video! Very good tips. The last step being to far out is something I thought we all had to do and it gets awkward at 5'8". In doing the large step, I end up opening my front foot before it even lands for the brace. Yeah, we fail to realize these pros are talllll, save Nikko or Emerson Keith.
    Did you go to SUNY Geneseo? You have a disc golf course there. How did you get it? I've been trying for 6 yrs to get SUNY Oswego to get one but to no avail:(
