    Followed your instructions for correcting the Start/Stop Service Required battery replacement. I followed each step you recommended and other than having a little trouble disconnecting the two wires the rest of the battery installation went smoothly. I waited 30 minutes before reconnecting everything and the all is working fine with no more Service message issue. Many thanks for taking the time to help Volvo owners save a few bucks.

    Great and simple explanation of procedures. I followed all instructions. The reset was over an hour while my son took me to the battery store and running some errands. After installation everything went smoothly well. Thank you so much.

    Thanks for this video. This is really helpful for resetting the system which I didn't know that when I watched other CZcams video. I actually removed the rear batter connector (negative) for more than 30 min., and then system was reset. I couldn't see the alarms anymore. All good here.

    Thanks for sharing all this great detail and taking the time to make this. It was great, but I couldn't remove the 2 cables / connectors on the front of the box that houses the support battery for the life of me. It was to the point that I was fearing I would damage them if I kept it up. Not sure if this will always work, but I found a Volvo Tech's post on Reddit who suggested simply leaving the car locked for 8 hours. Sure enough, the error disappeared after I did that. Maybe I got lucky, but I figured I'd share for the benefit of anyone else struggling with those cables.

    • @WrenchingMafia
      @WrenchingMafia  Před měsícem +1

      Your correct those cables could be hard to remove. And yes you can leave your vehicle locked for over 8 hours and should fix this. By disconnecting those connectors it makes it faster

  • @NnetTucnak
    @NnetTucnak Před 8 měsíci +7

    Start/stop error will show after driving. After hard reset you need to drive at 20km/h+ to test it. If you replace battery without disconecting ECU and main battery you need to wait 24 hours and drive car for fer km to make message disapear.
    You shoud say in video to people they MUST buy Start stop battery. Same size of this are normal motorcycle batteries and this batteries will die after one year or less...
    I put 15AH to my V60 II, working well and can hold car for about 1hour in stop mode.

    Thanks so much for the very informative video. I have a 2021 S90 b4, less than 2.5 years old, at 22,000 km. Dealer told me the battery is at 60% life. No any reminder message so far. Didn’t realize the “support battery” and the “back battery” issue back then. May I ask,
    - the battery check at the dealer usually means the support battery?
    - or if my back battery (48v?) is really dying down, what warning message would I and would I still be have some time for the replacement before it drop dead on me?
    Thank you for taking your time to read and I really appreciated it if I get your reply.

Should I have to unplug the connectors too or just replace the battery? Also when I removed the cover of the battery I saw the cable heads are full of some sort of build up out of the battery but is not rust. I cleaned it up but I am not sure is that is enough. Great Video. Thanks! Question: My service department wanted $450 in labor to do this on top of the $154 battery cost. I asked "why so much" and they said because software had to be installed to make this new Aux battery work? It this true? I didn't see anything about software in your video. Were they just talking about the hard reset and calling it "software"?

    Thanks for this fantastic video showing us how to do this. I just came back from the dealer to run the annual maintenance of the car and I reported that the start stop works randomly and I have a message on and off that the power steering assistance had reduced, which apparently can be connected with stop/start support battery issues. I don't have any message saying Start/Stop Service required though. Anyway, dealer says that they need to replace support battery and cables? Is this right? I was thinking about buying a new battery and replace it myself following your instructions but if new cables are required I would need to take the car to the dealer. I would appreciate your advice, please.

      This can be an issue with the main battery. In order for the start stop to work it needs to meet a lot of criteria to be able to work. My 2020 had a setting to permanently turn it off. Is that just the case for the XC60 I have? I’d think the XC90 would be the same.

    If I don’t replace this will this affect my overall drivability? Or just only affect the stop start feature? I don’t care for the stop/ start feature.

      It won’t affect drive ability it will only affect the start stop function

      @@WrenchingMafia awesome, thanks for the prompt reply. The first chance I get I’m going to disconnect that battery. I’m tired of disabling that feature every time I start the car. I just replaced the starter at 100k.

      Most definitely, I will. I’ll start by asking about the oil. Stupid question, but under the hood says Castrol edge professional 5 30. Manual says the aforementioned and also I think 0 25 grade. Sometimes I can’t get to the dealer and these oil change places use 0 25 Castrol. I’ve had this car since Feb of this year. I want to use the right oil and stick to it.

      @@MY-pj8cd I believe in your manual it will also show what oil has to be use depending on climate temperature. A lot of it might have to do with the climate environment you might be in. A suggestion is to call your local dealership and just verify with them and see what they are using there.

      Just recently bought a 2017 xc90 t6 and thinking this may be the issue with intermittent power steering message and then yellow non blinking check engine light? The start stop, we usually turn off, but when it’s on, it doesn’t always work….so will go ahead and replace both batteries and see if it works. Watched several of your videos and you seem to be most helpful! Keep at it Sir!

    For a dealer, this guy is pretty rough with the car. I constantly wonder why plastic covers have broken tabs and don't fit they they should when I get it back from the dealer, and now I know why. Additionally, any quality mechanic knows that you remove the ground terminal first when disconnecting a battery....as well as putting the ground on last when installing so you avoid the arc, which you saw in the video, which can cause all kinds of electronic issues in these newer cars. There's just no pride in doing things correctly these days, it just another job to get done
