    Civil War Union Music.
    I was one of them in 1853, and true story, I was in war 1858 and I was 16 back then, and I got shot in the left side of my Ass, and I got back up and I shot Confederate in the Head and I got shot by like 6 or 8 confederates, and Died, and then I was watching them fight and here comes more of our Union Men with Cannons, then we fired Cannons and Killed about Close to be 2,359 Confederates and they Retreated, and we got their State, and then I went to Heaven, and I see my Brothers about 1,689 Men up there and I seen them being reborn, and before I was reborn in 100+ or less years, I seen my Future Parents and my Future Mom went to my Future Dad's Band, he was a Drummer, and then 2016 he is a Bass Player, and I got reborn in 1997, I was scared to say anything, I miss my Brothers.

    I've been an American Civil War living historian (reenactor) for over nine years. These songs definitely are some of the best and it makes me proud to be a participant. I've portrayed a soldier for both sides and it's always been an honor. One thing that I think a lot of public don't understand is that the participants in this hobby are like the family away from home. We camp out, eat out, and enjoy each other's company. We all have a common love for learning about the history of the 19th Century. We definitely don't consider ourselves "know it alls" and many of us continue to learn from each other and from our own extensive research. I will continue to be a reenactor for many years to come. If you ever want to learn more about this history, find a unit (whether it's North or South), and GET INVOLVED! Trust me: you may think you know about the American Civil War, but school books only scratch the surface. We dig deeper and learn about everything that school books either don't want to cover or just don't have room to cover. :)

      How much is it for all the gear? I really want to be a reenactor because American Civil War is my favorite war but I know it cots a lot.
      Also, I am Swedish but I have family in Illinois I can stay with, so what I am asking is, can Europeans participate? I know there were Swedish soldiers but I am not sure what the rules are.

      I've lived in the deep south where there are many confederate cemeteries and such, it wasn't until I attended a reenactment that I truly began to *feel* the sorrow that comes with such destruction. I see people like to crack jokes about the "losers"... There are no winners in war, patting oneself on the back for killing entirely defeats the purpose and all that was meant to be learned is lost if that's the sentiment left with our descendants.

      @@MGTOWPaladin, it’s oblivious by your picture that you’re brainwashed by the “Lost Cause” myth, Sherman did not kill Women and Children or did he massacre Indians and Buffaloes as you falsely claim.
      First if Sherman was so hated by the South as your “Lost Cause” myth teaches why was he given a Hero’s Welcome in Atlanta when he returned a couple years after the war. The irrational hatred toward Sherman was started by lies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in the late 19th century and early 20th century, after the death of a lot War of Rebellion Veterans ( the 19th Century and original name for the Civil War)
      The Indians were always savage and bloodthirsty, ever since the fist massacre committed by the Powhatan in 1620, always under the guise of friendship and later ambushes, they would always target women and children. The cowardly Lenape in 18th Century Pennsylvania in would usually only target children and they would scalp the youngest. That became the Modus Operandi for the Indians throughout the rest of the Early US History, either ambush or attack unarmed innocence, usually the later of the two.
      Sherman tried to negotiated treaties and he did successfully with the Navajo, but the Sioux or Dakota/Lakota which is their actual name were always violent. The Fetterman Massacre, where the led the US Army into an ambush was why Sherman pushed for them to be removed and encouraged Bison hunting, that would cause the Indians to leave of their food source was diminished.
      Everything you believe about Sherman is from revisionist lies of the Lost Cause myth created the United Daughters of the Confederacy and later false books, such as Communist George Zinn’s blatantly false “Peoples History of America”, which he wrote a Soviet prospective of American History and is full of lies and has been rebutted by credible Historians.

    My name is Tim McDonald, I'm a native of the Isle,
    I was born among old Erin's bogs when I was but a child.
    My father fought in "Ninety-eight," for liberty so dear;
    He fell upon old Vinegar Hill, like an Irish volunteer.
    Then raise the harp of Erin, boys, the flag we all revere
    We'll fight and fall beneath its folds, like Irish volunteers!
    Then raise the harp of Erin, boys, the flag we all revere
    We'll fight and fall beneath its folds, like Irish volunteers!
    When I was driven form my home by an oppressor's hand,
    I cut my sticks and greased my brogues, and came o'er to this land.
    I found a home and many friends, and some that I love dear;
    Be jabbers! I'll stick to them like bricks and an Irish volunteer.
    Then fill your glasses up, my boys, and drink a hearty cheer,
    To the land of our adoption and the Irish volunteers!
    Then fill your glasses up, my boys, and drink a hearty cheer,
    To the land of our adoption and the Irish volunteers!
    Now when the traitors in the south commenced a warlike raid,
    I quickly then laid down my hod, to the devil went my spade!
    To a recruiting-office then I went, that happened to be near,
    And joined the good old "Sixty-ninth," like an Irish volunteer.
    Then fill the ranks and march away!--no traitors do we fear;
    We'll drive them all to blazes, says the Irish volunteer.
    Then fill the ranks and march away!--no traitors do we fear;
    We'll drive them all to blazes, says the Irish volunteer.
    When the Prince of Wales came over here, and made a hubbaboo,
    Oh, everybody turned out, you know, in gold and tinsel too;
    But then the good old Sixty-ninth didn't like these lords or peers
    They wouldn't give a damn for kings, the Irish volunteers!
    We love the land of Liberty, its laws we will revere,
    "But the devil take nobility!" says the Irish volunteer!
    We love the land of Liberty, its laws we will revere,
    "But the devil take nobility!" says the Irish volunteer!
    Now if the traitors in the South should ever cross our roads,
    We'll drive them to the devil, as Saint Patrick did the toads;
    We'll give them all short nooses that come just below the ears,
    Made strong and good of Irish hemp by Irish volunteers.
    Then here's to brave McClellan whom the arny now reveres
    He'll lead us on to victory, the Irish volunteers.
    Then here's to brave McClellan, whom the army now reveres
    He'll lead us on to victory, the Irish volunteers.
    Now fill your glasses up, my boys, a toast come drink with me,
    May Erin's Harp and the Starry Flag united ever be;
    May traitors quake, and rebels shake, and tremble in their fears,
    When next they meet the Yankee boys and Irish volunteers!
    God bless the name of Washington! that name this land reveres;
    Success to Meagher and Nugent, and their Irish volunteers!

      The statue in question has a rich history. A freed woman from Virgina, Charlotte Scott, came up with the idea and it was funded by ex-slaves. U.S. Grant and Frederick Douglass were there for its unveiling on the 11th anniversary of Lincoln's death. The black model was ex-slave Archer Alexander; they didn't want to use a white model. What was progressive in one era is intolerable in our era.
      I think we should do as Frederick Douglass suggested and put up another statue. There's plenty of room for history.

Personally I don’t think you are resurrected and reborn. But we will meet them in Heaven. (Which is a blessing to reunite with those long gone.) I’ve been there myself. Have had visions, dreams, and nostalgic like memories alike to come out of nowhere. But as a Civil War/American historian, after owning personally over 100 plus letters from different civil War soldiers, and other documents. Having ancestors, reading thousands, and thousands of different documents/letters it’s only natural. 5+ Grandfathers of mine served in the Union Army and a multitude of Uncles. One was Captain Henry J Smith of Co. C, in the 53rd Pennsylvania. In the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, of the 2nd Corp. Henry was wounded twice at the battle of Fredericksburg, December 16th, 1862. Hit in the thigh slightly by a piece of artillery shrapnel, and a Minnie ball through the left arm while advancing upon Marye’s Heights. At Gettysburg he had the largest Co. in the 53rd PA with 26 men. 13 men were wounded and 1 man was killed. That was during the second day’s Battle of Gettysburg. Survived throughout all the battles in the overland campaign in May of 1864. But on June 16th, 1864, near Ware Bottom Church before the lines of Petersburg he was taken prisoner. Being sent firstly Georgia, and then about in August was transferred to South Carolina till. It was Between that time, and March 18th, of 1865, that he spent time as POW. Then getting paroled at some point to return to his regiment to acquire a discharge in March of 1865. Another Grandfather of mine is Jacob D Wolfgang who served in Co. E, of the 81st Pennsylvania, 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 2nd Corp. But thanks for sharing the music, and your love for the American War of the Rebellion. God Bless you. Interesting, i will have to think about this and reply,
      I believe that the union soldier didn't fight to liberate the slaves just like Lincoln said "if I could save the union without freeing any slave i would do it" regarding article on the new York tribune.
      And i don't think the average soldier in the Confederacy fought to keep slaves, they didn't own any.
      The people that start the wars have their reasons.
      Slavery was going to end any way the south was close to emancipating their slaves search Confederate Emancipation

    • @verderhapsody
      @verderhapsody Před 2 lety +3

      @@jmontoya4689 true Lincoln did say that, that was from the famous Greenly letter. Also in that same letter Lincoln ends it by saying that his preference was
      ” to see men everywhere be free”
      Lincoln was stating that his focus would be to preserve the Union. Even though his desire was to end slavery.
      So Lincoln kept his beliefs on ending slavery silent, to not rock the boat too much , so he kept a lot of his beliefs private In The beginning unfortunately.
      However Lincoln’s position on the abolitionist movement grew stronger as the war went on. Which lead him to write the emancipation proclamation.
      Even with all of that. It still doesn’t take away that the Confederacy’s main reason for Secession from the union, it was still the preservation and expansion of slavery.
      In a speech to the people of Savannah Georgia on March 21,1861 the Vice President of the CSA Alexander H. Stephens said…
      “Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.”
      This speech was said a few weeks before the Confederate Army attacked Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861.
      Also there was a very common belief among the poor white population that didn’t own slaves that “Servile Insurrection” would happen if the slaves were free. Meaning a giant race war would happen, and the freed slaves would massacre the southern whites as an act of vengeance.
      This was clearly proven false after the slaves were freed.
      So many poor whites did support slavery, based on this lie that the southern leaders kept feeding the white population. It was this lie, that many took up a riffle to defend that practice.
      Also I did look up the confederation emancipation. The bill in question was really about allowing recently freed slaves to enlist in the army. Because the CSA was in desperate need of troops, near the end of the war. That bill was rejected in the Confederacy’s Congress time and time again. Until it finally passed in March of 1865. At that point it was too late, The Union broke through And the South surrendered in April of 1865. However The bill your talking about would not free all of the slaves in the south.
      Also I say this as someone whom has had family members from both my Father’s and Mother’s side fight for the Confederate Army for the State of Georgia and Alabama.
      I’m sure my ancestors had other reasons for Joining and fighting. But make no mistake, they knew they were fighting to preserve slavery.
      Their Legacy is not one I wish to honor. But God is Gracious, He has revealed to me the truth that all people are equally valued in His sight. And gave me the desire and fire of Anti-racism. That my ancestors clearly lacked. I’m not doomed to their racist legacy, but I must be vigilant. And make sure that I pass these values of Anti-racism down to my children if I should have any. So that our ancestors legacy is not repeated ever again.
      And it’s a hard fact to come to terms with, for many of us that have family that fought for the Confederacy. But it’s still an Undeniable historical fact, that the CSA, separate from the United States. Because of its wish to sustain slavery. And even many of the poorest white people, supported that, despite not owning slaves themselves.

      Great reply, it is obvious that you have strong feeling and thoughts on this subject based on your family history but i would also like you to consider our shared upbringing ( I grew up in NY in the 80s and my educational and media diet was most likely very similar to yours)
      Slavery was ending everywhere, in Brazil it ended in 1888 and in Cuba in 1886. Of course in the Arab middle east slavery still is going on.
      General Lee said that he would hope to see the end of slavery and many other prominent southerns felt the same way.
      Abraham Lincoln wanted freed slave to be transplants to our countries (Liberia, central America)
      He was a white supremacists by today's standards even by 1900s.
      He only wanted a western Christian united States and felt it would be better not to have blacks competing with white for the same jobs and wages.
      I would also suggest that many liberal abolish have quite a savior complex towards non whites but they truly don't view them as equals.
      The reason I mention this is that most of our educational the arts, movies, News papers, music is controlled by these same savior complex elites that love to point their finger at others saying they are Trumpers or racist when those same elites have nothing to do with non whites in their personal life.
      I think this country is and has always been the least racist country for it's particular time in history.
      That said i thank you for this exchange of ideas.
      And by the way if our whites in the 1850s were scared that freed blacks would revolt and kill everyone then i would say visit www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/ucr/
      And maybe they were not that wrong.
      Also I am not anglo Saxon and i am counted as a minority and a person of color ( both of those terms i despise since they mean nothing as far as the mortgage i have to pay)
      As review "the long march through the institutions"
      And the Frankfurt School.
      Besides these divisions are mostly generated for us to not pay attention to what the federal reserve does, remember the golden rule, he who has the gold makes the rules.

Yes there was a belief that once freed, the newly liberated African American's couldn't successfully assimilate into american society. Which was indeed false they most certainly could, provided that leaders would stand firm and protect their rights as citizens, but that is a topic for another day.
      However the planed was a failure, many countries in central america didn't wish to participate in the program. One of the countries that was considered was Belize. As well as the fact that there was evidence of huge amounts of embezzlement. From the people in charge of the program. The colonization program was criticized during that time as well. one of the critics was Fredric Douglass himself. However many Freed African Americans opposed to that idea because, of the fact that they spent their whole lives in America. However Lincoln had abandoned the plan. Even advocating for political suffrage for the liberated slaves. That served in the union
      quod.lib.umich.edu/j/jala/2629860.0005.104/--lincoln-s-constitutional-dilemma-emancipation-and-black?rgn=main;view=fulltext
      So yes, Lincoln had very some pretty screwed up views, by today's standards, even people in his day criticize him for not taking enough of a stand. for the elimination of slavery and for civil rights of African Americans. But Lincoln had his beliefs and policy changed over the years and even during the Civil war. Could Lincoln have done more? absolutely!!
      Was Lincoln too quiet on the subject as to not offend the more conservative supporters especially before elected? Yes. Could he have taken a better stand on equal rights for African Americans? Yep!
      But one thing that can not be disputed was that Lincoln was in favor of Ending Slavery, He expressed his views on the subject. And made efforts to make it happen once in office as president. And He did make it happen.
      If you remember our discussion of the greenly letter. Lincoln had an earlier draft of the emancipation proclamation already made. Before that interview.
      SO, as for General Lee, there where records of him owning slaves before the war. Also yes he did say that, in a letter to his wife in 1856
      "In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution, is a moral & political evil in any Country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages. I think it however a greater evil to the white man than to the black race, & while my feelings are strongly enlisted in behalf of the latter, my sympathies are more strong for the former. The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially & physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction as a race, & I hope will prepare & lead them to better things. How long their subjugation may be necessary is known & ordered by a wise Merciful Providence."
      But from the context of this letter it doesn't seem that Lee wished for the system to end anytime in the near future as to the date of that letter.
      This letter also proved that Lee was not the kind slave master that many people wish for him to be. Lee also was Completely against the civil rights for any of the newly freed slaves after the civil war.
      There are accounts of his former slaves, stating that once they were recaptured after trying to escape He had them beaten severely.
      When it came for his father-in-law's slaves to be freed after his Death. Lee had forced them to stay for another five years.
      He refused to exchange black union solider prisoners when Grant proposed to a prisoner exchange. He thought also thought that Black people were intellectually inferior to white people. It seems beyond a shadow of a doubt that Lee was indeed a white supremacist. So compared to Lincoln, Robert E.Lee showed no growth or change on his beliefs what so ever.
      Yes your are right, there were, people who wanted to end slavery and didn't think black people were equal. But you forgot one major thing. The abolitionist movement had two main groups. ..
      -The anti-slavery side, that viewed slavery as wrong and wished for it to end. but didn't view black people as equal to whites. and thought it should be ended , whether gradual or immediate.
      and ...
      -The Radicals believed in complete and swift end of slavery and
      the belief that black people were equal to whites and advocated for complete civil rights and suffrage for African Americans .
      Also remember that Bill we talked about when the confederacy debated about using freed slaves, They were on the verge of losing to the Union, and many in the confederate Congress and CSA army generals were opposed to the idea. because it was against the idea of their revolution, SO given that, the CSA was against using Black soliders even though in theory they could have won the war if not prolong it. I dont think that the CSA would have ended slavery soon if they won the war.
      Also no, The generals fighting for the CSA, were in fact supporters of slavery and owned slaves themselves.
      Also that FBI link you sent me doesn't really prove that servile insurrection was something to worry about. in fact I had to look real hard, the only thing I found was the 1995 fbi report on violent crimes concerning murder.
      So If you're talking about the 1995 fbi violent crime report on murders. which I'm assuming you're talking about that. That is extremely taken out of context. The difference between white and black offenders was not even 7%. Also in the same report, the majority of white victims are killed by white offenders. this fact is stated In table 2.8 on page 17 of that report.
      Also don't forget the huge amount of lynchings that white people preformed on African Americans from the 19th-20th century during the Jim crow south.
      according to the Naacp more then 4,700 lynchings were preformed in the U.S

      The rebels fought for slavery and it's expansion and preservation, bless your heart... The rebels where fighting against the united states, they're not american hero's, hell they fought against america. They shouldn't have statues in public and by golly the virginia battle flag or the confederate flag should never fly on public/civic property ever.

      Abraham Lincoln's *Invention of Presidential War Powers:* Facing the unprecedented crisis of civil war *(which he started)* in 1861, President Abraham Lincoln invoked his "war power" as commander-in-chief to "take any measure which may best subdue the enemy."
      Defying the chief justice of the United States, he suspended the writ of habeas corpus by presidential decree. He also declared martial law, authorized the trial of civilians by military courts, and proclaimed the emancipation of slaves--all on the grounds that *"I may in an emergency do things on military grounds which cannot be done CONSTITUTIONALLY by Congress.*
      *NOTE:* You can also add: started an illegal income tax August 1861, illegally invaded Virginia 21 July, 1861 as VA was part of the Union when the Sumter fight took place - but VA legally seceded afterwards.
      Lincoln unconstitutionally invaded the South which legally seceded, *according to Lincoln.* But, he wanted the *MONEY* from the *FOURTH-RICHEST Country in 1860.*
      The Confederate States of America (1861-1865) started with an agrarian-based economy that relied heavily on slave-worked plantations for the production of cotton for export to Europe If classed as an independent country, the area of the Confederate States would have ranked as the *FOURTH-RICHEST country of the world in 1860."* (Wikipedia: Economy of the Confederate States of America)

    The citizen-soldiers who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution. The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. These attributes are the underpinning of our democratic society and represent the foundation on which this nation was built. "God Save the South".
