  • In this episode the Jonny Long Door moves into the paint stages of the restoration, firstly getting completely covered in Epoxy prime to seal in and protect the bare metal also giving us a nice bed to start the levelling and shaping process. Then starts the prime, guide coat, sand, repeat, prime, guide coat, sand, repeat through the polyester primer and finishing primer stages. 💪🏼

    Hello Charlies CC,
I'm also doing a Jaguar, a Mk 2 saloon and am using the Max Meyer 3300. It is my first time in using such a product and using the recommended mixing ratios of 2% hardener and 2% thinner gives a near impossible paint to spray with a1.8 nozzle (as recommended), it has such a slow throughput from the gun.
You use far more thinners than recommended, any comment please?

Yeah mix it 3:1 with thinners, we are also using a 1.8 set up 👍🏻

Great video, thanks. How long do you leave the car in the last primer coats before blocking ? As we know all paint shrinks and if there were any sanding scratches that are too deep they would reveal themselves in the top coat a few months down the line.
I was told by someone at Wildae Restorations that they leave their cars 6 months in primer before blocking. Is there a way around this issue?

Hey Ben, we leave them at least a week and normally a couple of bakes in the booth, 6 months is a bit keen primers are a bit porous so you could end up with micro blister issues

@@Charlies-Classic-Custom Thanks for the response, obviously the time in primer works for you as you are working on top end cars and I can see you do a very nice job. I've had trouble In the past even leaving cars a month in primer with shrinkage but I only did one round of high build primer and wasn't using stopper at that time. I don't do painting anymore other than underneath cars but I would paint my own car when the time comes, good to see your methods.
