Is the 2019 Cadillac CTS a GOOD luxury sedan to BUY before it's GONE?

  • The Cadillac CTS line is coming to an end for 2019. Under the hood is a 3.6L V6 producing 335 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The CTS has very distinctive Cadillac lines. On the inside there is plenty of room and some very nice interior touches. Is the 2019 Cadillac a luxury sedan you need to get before they are all gone?

Today's Cadillacs are kinda hidden gems, great value second hand, if you can overlook minor fit and finish on the interior(common with most American cars) you'll find a great handing and driving vehicle.

Yeah I looked at a 2014 cts (first year of the third and final gen I think), and it was a very nice car for under $15k and relatively low mileage. The fit and finish may not be as good as the Germans, but American manufacturers are improving with that every year. The interior materials themselves actually feel really nice. No hard plastics anywhere to be found unlike our third gen 2011 Escalade. Leather or at least soft touch material even extended all the way to places you’ll never touch. As for reliability, the Escalade has been great with its bulletproof 6.2L LS motor, and ultimately it’s just a fancy body on frame Yukon/Tahoe/suburban truck based suv. As for their cars and smaller suvs, I don’t know cause I don’t own one, but I hear mixed reviews. I’d imagine they at least aren’t as expensive or complex as German car repairs.

I have a 2018, this car is amazing. Got it used, only two years on it and saved over $20K. Great value on resale market. A couple things to correct, he says CUE is being replaced in the CT5. It's not. In fact the version of CUE in the 2018 is the same as in the CT5. Also he says the paddle shifters are plastic. They are not, they are magnesium, very light weight and are easy to use. This car is super fun to drive, a ton of power and the handling is better than the BWM 5 series. Most main stream reveiwers are scared to pit the CTS against the German sedans cause they know their kickbacks for promo will go down the tubes. The CTS outperforms most revals in the class. I love the car and sad to see it go. Some reviewers say the centre console buttons don't always respond. That is such a lie. I have never once touched a button and it not respond. I actually really like the smooth buttons and they are really responsive. Cue is also very responsive and the Android Auto works perfectly. I can't comment on Apply Car Play, I don't use it. People who get in my car are amazed at how nice it is. I find the interior of the new Cadillacs not as nice as the outgoing even. Their simplified interiors are becoming cheap looking. My wife has an XT5 and she envies my CTS interior.

I have a 2017 model now which replaced an older 2005 CTS which I've driven to 402,000 km. This is miles ahead from the previous generation in terms of quality and performance. I get amazing fuel economy with the turbo edition (2.0l) and its digital cruise control is amazing. Going up hill I increment by 5 km and the turbo boost kicks in (there is a kpa guage that shows the turbo operation which most reviewers don't mention but is neat!) and it smoothly powers through the hill no problem. The leg room in the back is perfect for people especially under 6 feet tall and it drives flawless. SInce most people are obsesed with German car manufacturers and the only people driving cadillacs are the ones with the lower ATS model, this CTS turns heads due to its uniqueness on the round. I get so many looks from people with comments on how nice the car is. Definitely a win for Cadillac as I feel simply driving this vehicle on the road is pushing Cadillac's image up a notch. Most people haven't seen how beautiful this car is due to its rarity. WIll definitely buy the last 2019 version in a few years if I can find it around. The only complaint I have about this car is that it pisses of German car owners which want to ask me "why Cadillac?". The answer is simple, there is nothing wrong with this car, it's lower in price than German counterparts, and by buying Cadillac I also sport AMERICAN JOBS which is a huge win in my book if you give a crap about the U.S. labor worker :) . Cheers to Raiti for a great review, thank you!

I thought this was one of the most beautiful looking sedans when this came out back in 2014 & still looks amazing today in 2021. My boss bought a lightly used blue on white 2019 CTS last year with the turbo 4 which replaced his 2004 Acura TL, but I would go for at least the V6. I've been starting to like the looks of the exterior of the new CT5 more, but I still like the CTS's interior better.

I like the exterior styling, weight, balance. Even though they'll probably deal over the pretty high asking price, a slightly used would save another 30- 35%. Fitment quality is not the mark of excellence. You can see the outline of the passenger airbag in the dash. That is just not acceptable in a "luxury" car. I think a Toyota Avalon is a smarter buy for a family sedan.

  • @Rumblefan

If I wasn’t in love with wrx stis, I feel like I would get a Cadillac. They’re just so underrated. The ats, cts, and new ct4 and ct5, are great handling, fun to drive luxury cars with pretty impressive interior materials and quality for the price. I also think the exterior styling is gorgeous, and you own something more “unique”, not just yet another German luxury car or a Lexus. Has anyone sat in a new Mercedes?? They’re nice, but push on any of the interior plastics and they creak and squeak like crazy, some things are even pretty easily breakable. This continues to be the case even on the flagship s class which now starts at over $100k. Ridiculous. Not sure if it’s the same story with the maybach models, but I’d hope not for that price.

Rear wheel drive & Beige! Let's be frank, all black interiors are everyday. Why not brighten up the interior? The beige is actually 'wheat', a creamy color. I have it in my 2019 Impala. Way better than the Halloween orange in newer cars. Caddy changes styling too often. Why pay 60K+ for a new model & in two yrs the design changes. I wonder if CTS had pesky 8 speed that Camaro had.

They should have dropped the na v6 and added in the 2.7t from the new ct4. They also should have kept the cts and ats around rather than dropping the them. They are changing the names again pretty soon anyway. So what's the point of changing the names so often. The cts and ats needed a updated cue system, interior quality and engine options. If they would have done that then the cars probably would have done better. The aging 3.6 is smooth and sounds good but power delivery isn't quite up to par. Sure the 2.7t has less hp but loads more tq.
The ats should have gotten engine options similar to that of the new ct4 except the ats v (new structure) gets the detuned 3.0tt with 360 hp and 405 tq. The high performance ats should still get the 3.6tt that it had. While the cts should have gotten the 2.7t base and the detuned 3.0tt as the option. The v should have been the detuned 3.6tt from the current v sport. Then the detuned blackwing from the ct6 premium as the highest performance but with awd with aws as standard. Just my opinion anyway, nothing wrong with the names imo just need to make everything more on par than what they were.
