Lewis Hamilton is having a bit of a rough time in the 2022 Formula One championship. While he's had a few good results, he's been nowhere near to a race win with the Mercedes F1 W13 and therefore this got me wondering if he will win again in F1.

5:35 ironically his McLaren MP4-24 would arguably satisfy this. He scored 80% of his points in the latter 48% of the season. He went from zero podiums and zero poles through Germany to champagne every single race he finished apart from one with a win even and four poles. It’s highly unlikely in a frozen era this is doable but as you said, the ace up their sleeve are the pods given it’s not going to require tokens to shift around it. The real problem as you also mention, they both would benefit. And right now, George is looking very formidable

I'm a Verstappen fan but getting on Hamilton for Imola is unfair. The track had one dry line. Last year Russel and Bottas crashed in similar circumstances and I doubt Hamilton really cares about being P14 or P13. He wants to win. And surely not to crash into an Alpha Tauri fighting to get either 0 points or 0 points. Hamilton just missed on winning 8th WC a few months ago, he knows how to race and don't really have to prove anything. At the same time Russel has to show off, at least to justify swapping Bottas for him.

George did drive very well but I think any driver in Lewis' car in that position would have struggled especially with the straight line speed of the Honda. I still have hope for Both George and Lewis to be fighting with Charles and Max at the front but not in the coming races. Yeah, Lewis was regularly coming out of the final corner within just 0.5 seconds of Gasly but because Gasly had DRS as well Lewis wasn't even able to get alongside by the end of the straight. No one gives Gasly any stick though for not being able to pass Albon in a Williams for 30 laps (and Albon never had DRS) while Yuki scored good points in P7, but Lewis not being able to break a DRS train on a track that's almost impossible to overtake on without DRS is endlessly jumped on by his haters as evidence Lewis is being "exposed". Daniel also wasn't able to make any progress at all through the field and had to switch strategies and pit again for a set of hards, while his teammate finished P3, but again fans treat his race very differently to Lewis'.

With such a slim sidepod it becomes harder to control the airflow around the rear wheels, meaning that the wake created by the rear tyre is more significant, thus creating more drag

I think we may be seeing the fruit of 7 years of Mercedes’ dominance come to bear: the teams that have been decimated regularly in that time have strengthened themselves, put their heads down, and found innovative new ideas to push their cars that next step, while Mercedes has (admitted by them) slacked off slightly riding the coattails of so many years of utter dominance.
Regardless of opinion on the last race last season or the championship in general, it took its toll on Hamilton and Mercedes in general. Pair that with the relentless poaching of Mercedes engineers by every other team on the grid and eventually the dynasty would fall. I personally was surprised that Lewis didn’t retire after last year, but I think he should have. I believe that unless Merc finds a miracle fix to the porpoising we could be seeing the end of his career being significantly less shiny than the rest of it.
I’m a Max fan but have respect for Lewis’ ability and success; however to ignore the incredible role that the last 7-8 years of cars have played in his success is ignorant. I believe we’ve seen a car that could challenge Mercedes’ for the first time in nearly a decade and Max’s uncanny ability to get the most out of a car is shining through.

    Bottas/Vettel fan here
When you have a car that tends to be unpredictable and hard to drive, it’s very risky to squeeze out the best lap time or have good race pace. This kind of goes for anyone and everyone as all the drivers have had that feeling at some point. Most sympathized for Vettel in 2020 as a fanbase with how Ferrari treated him and the bad circumstances that held him back. For Lewis and Russell, the car just isn’t good, and it doesn’t look safe for the head either.
7 titles don’t come easy. 1 title alone doesn’t come easy for any driver just ask Verstappen. There is still a challenge being had up there whether it’s with someone else or the self. When you have the best car and the best driver they are more than likely to win the championship, it’s an obvious formula and Mercedes made the choice to accept Lewis into their team back in 2013 over Hulkenberg (Which I personally wished they took Hulkenberg but Lewis was a decent fit.) Though eventually there would be a time where Lewis isn’t going to be the same driver he was in previous years. The same goes for Mercedes as well as there will be a time where they won’t be the same team. Though it still seems like there’s still something inside of both of them however.
Personally I don’t really see why some parts of social media like to ridicule Lewis since George has joined the team by making a competition. With the position that Mercedes is in, the last thing they want to do is have their drivers fighting it out. It’s more about points and development for the team and for the future in this case, Russell, the driver Lewis picked when he could’ve potentially called on Vandoorne, Guiterrez, De Vries(Maybe not but that would be cool), or even Ocon as his teammates as they all have ties to Mercedes.
I’m sure Lewis is doing fine. He has that determination to improve himself and so does Mercedes. Russell will be the one to take the torch if Mercedes gets back go the front as he’s performed well so far.

Do you see the 2 massive round black thingy at the back called rear wheels?
How can mini side-pods reduce drag if you still have those 2 massive rear wheels? Even If it can reduce drag, it would be extremely tiny tiny amount.
You know that side-pods can be shaped in a way that reflect airflow away the back wheels, to help reduce drag too? The side-pods can actually act like aerodynamic fairing for the back wheels.
So not having side-pods actually help to increase drag in this case I’m afraid.

Nobody wins titles in inferior cars. I think Lewis has been a great driver and for a large part of his career was in the most dominant car/team of all time. Good luck to him. Odds are Mercedes will find something by mid season, but it is quickly looking like a one horse race with a great back up. Max seems increasingly unbeatable if his car does not implode. After Lewis won in France he didn't win back to back the rest of that year. The 2020 W11 was a cheat code I'll admit it the best car in his entire career and 2015 his car was better than Nico's 5 of his 7 titles or 4 I'll say that because of the 2019 6 out of 8 wins start his championships have come down to the wire. He's 37 he's not supposed to beat Max, Charles or George and it's ok he's not completely over the hill Mansell won a title at 39 years of age.

While they may not drop off abruptly, There is a noticeable difference in their career. A short list of names; A.J. Foyt, Michael Schumacher, Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Jimmie Johnson, and Lewis Hamelton. I will admit winning 1 championship is hard, much less 7. But, I just find it interesting. Not only do they not win championships, but crazy things seem to come out of no where. They win #7 and everything seems to change, they stop winning as much and they have alot of bad luck where it seems in previous seasons they would avoid the bad luck. It may or may not be a curse, but it's certainly something to think about. :)

This dog of a car is nowhere near as bad as the 2009 car. George certainly has the edge at the moment, but Hamilton is still Hungry, he's still Hamilton.

I'm not a fan of him but give him a car he is comfortable with that can challenge and he's back in the race.

Lewis entered this season hungry for getting revenge not from Max, but from F1. They behaved him like he was worthless, it's quite logic to feel it was unfair (and it was). But I feel that his rage has been already calmed down, and if the car gets faster, I'm not sure he'll have the same will he'd have in the preseason. I'm really sad to say this, but I fear that he's over... I wish days like in Brazil last year could came back

Interesting video, thanks. As a LH fan, and an F1 fan since 1986, I’ve seen a lot of F1 races. Personality though I believe his state of mind is his biggest issue. This is clearly evident by the success of his talented younger teammate. They both have very similar if not identical cars on race day yet the results are exactly what we’ve all seen so far.. What happened last year in Abu Dhabi broke him MENTALLY, coupled with all the off tracks issues with FIA rules.,…. The very entity whom he believed ROBBED him. Sure the car has be a challenging factor to some degree with its issues, however George is making the most of that situation and it’s not because he’s more talented than Lewis. At the very least, Lewis should be closer to his teammate if not ahead PERIOD! To his credit so far, George has simply gotten the job done through consistency.,…. he has out qualified, had better race pace, and even come from behind and beaten Lewis so far this season. Meanwhile Lewis has been underperforming each race weekend, but somehow managing to have senseless feuds over jewelry rules with the FIA. Lewis just doesn’t appear to be as laser focused as he needs to be currently, however I believe he can turn this around and certainly improve💪🏾, ….just less whining and complaining, and FOCUS.

@@JohnSmith-uy2jg What do you mean he can’t? In Bahrain he beat russell fair and square. In Jeddah Hamilton had a last minute setup change and had the same strategy that Russell had in miami but it didn’t workout for him because the pit lane was closed. In Australia Russell beat Lewis because of the safety car. In Imola Lewis was stuck behind a train and couldn’t get a proper lap in during quali. In Miami he got beaten again because of the safety car

this may sound stupid but the car seems whoever has the better setup and can get it in a sweet spot is going to beat the teammate. obviously its down to the driver as well but one minute hamilton is so far behind russell next russell is so far behind hamilton. The car is so unpredictable so finding the right setup is massive if they want to beat eachother
