Secure your Hi-Lift jack and still operate your Jeep soft top

  • I was frustrated by the limited products available to secure a Hi-lift jack in the back of a Jeep JK and still be able to operate the soft top without removing the jack so I made my own. The 2-in split ring hangers can be found at a plumbing supply house. I was not able to find them at your typical Lowe's or Home Depot or Menards. The actual diameter of the roll bar at this location was 2 and 1/4 in. The split ring hangers were very close to two and a quarter inches despite being sold as a 2-in hanger. I etched the galvanized finish in vinegar to help accept the black paint. I used 1/16 in thick rubber to go between the painted roll bar and the galvanized split ring hangers (rubber glued onto hangers with upholstery glue). I did not mention it in the video but I did cut little x-shaped holes in the roll bar fabric, through which I passed the stainless bolts from the aluminum brackets to secure to the split ring hangers.
So happy I have a new home for my 48-in Hi-Lift that allows me to operate my soft top.

Brian, this is a great video. I didn't want to have to take off my jack everytime I wanted to use my soft top. I couldn't figure out how to mount it inside and not have to take the jack off and on for soft top use. Thank you

Thought I was the only one for a while. Glad to know there are others that like to carry a jack and also work a soft top. Seems like such a common thing. Hard to believe there aren't solutions out there.

@@briancrockett76 What size screws did you use to secure the bracket through the split ring hangers? Also, since it looks like the brackets are turned in a little at that location, do you think a 42" hi lift would work?

@@bobsimmons7152 the split ring hangers are natively 3/8" threads, which conveniently went right through the Hi-Lift bracket hardware holes without modification. Mine is a 48 inch jack. I bet you could further angle them inward to make up the distance to accommodate a 42 inch jack.

@@bobsimmons7152 Also, on those split ring hangers, I ditched the original screws that secure the "opening side" of the split ring hanger and replaced with some short stainless screws/bolts along with those stainless acorn nuts.
