- Old or new? That is the question. As the BMW GS celebrates its 40th anniversary, we grabbed the latest R 1250 GS Adventure and wheeled out Chris's trusty steed, which costs half the price - the R 1200 GSA - to see if it's worth saving £10k...

Gents, as a long term viewer of 44 Teeth it’s been great to see the content get greater and greater but there’s nothing like having Perkins and Statham back on a couple of bikes cocking about. Wonderful way to spend half an hour
I'm 50 this year and I'm still too young for a GS!
Yea but you like pain, as proved when you did that tour with womble on your duke and couldn't get on or off the bike without crying.
This is correct.
Bollocks are you, you got no mirrors in your house🤣🤣
I'm 50 next week, and I have a GS on my shortlist of bikes. Suree looks comfy.
I'm 52 and my only bike is the rsv4.
Yes! Do the 24-hr challenge again!💯
Hopefully they don't crash into each other - with the Panniers LOL... Hey if you you guys do ? Maybe add a Country or 2?
Ah, Perkins and Statham back together again. 44Teeth gives me hope for the future. Love from the Colonies. 🇨🇦❤️🇬🇧
Yes . With all the obvious global police state take over and all esp in Canada
Love from all the Colonies! 🇦🇺 ♥ 🏴
Didnt know who "Perkins" was and did a quick google, coffee almost came out of my nose, #goodone
Who is Perkins?
A few years ago at a track day I saw a guy who was on a GS, not slow at all and was soundly passing a lot of guys on more "sporting" bikes. I stayed with him for a while, right up until he starting getting brave and was touching the head guards down and trying to toss the beast into the kitty litter. He never did but I gave him lots of space after that, It was definitely different to see at the track but the bike did just fine.
I’m 31 and have a 1250 GSA. Yes they get a lot of criticism about supposedly being an old mans bike, but, I’m happy with mine. It’s far more capable and practical than other bikes I’ve owned, but still plenty of fun to ride. The 40th anniversary model isn’t for me though - although I don’t think a GS is a good looking bike anyway, I think that yellow style on the 40th anniversary model is a bit too much...
For all the critics out there - try riding a GS then make up your mind!
I'm 29 and am awaiting delivery of my GSA!
I deleted the yellow hand guards, just too yellow.
Years ago I sold my whole stable and bought a gsa 2018 new at age 27. The payments sucked but I have zero regrets. Best bike I have ever owned. I paid it off a few months ago. It’s just sublime!
Who needs self cancelling indicators? 2 mins later ‘You’ve left your indicator on mate’ 😁
My 93 year old Grandfather loves his GS, though he says he still feels a bit too young for it.
I hope I live to 93 and still Ride - My Hat's off to him!!
@@stevebryant5299 Not sure if you realise I'm being sarcastic or not...
@@harpersneil LOL - Sorry I wasn't.
@@stevebryant5299 Lol!! We all have those moments!
My old mans 83, and still rides his bmw r1100s.
As a fellow GS fan boy - I couldn't agree with you guys more....great work as ever chaps (and entirely coincidentally have a video reviewing my own my 2013 GS going up tomorrow morning and draw pretty much exactly the same conclusions.....although much more sensibly of course.....but then I admit I am old, and bald enough, to have a GS).....
Just like Chops!😉
@@johnwust9230 ...nah, he's only a youngster, you need to be in your 50's to get a GS legitimately...
Looking forward to it Mr Flyer
As a fellow GS fan boy... gone GS salesman... due in large part to you and his videos: First, thank you both. Second, while I mostly agree that the 2018 and older R1200GS accomplishes 90% of what the current 1250s do, it's the connectivity package with the TFT screen that helped really push me into buying a 1250. As a machine, they're very close. As a comfort, the new bikes are far better.
Also I'm 30 and still bought a GS but I've always been old in spirit.
'Inappropriate Trackday' what an idea guys!!!! Get it done. Great vid to watch while washing up the dishes
I got met 2015 GS when I was 29, just a couple of years ago. I'm still in love with it :D
Can't believe you didn't stop at 26:02 for a picture outside Nigel's 😂
Ahhhh what?! Missed that
I thought the exact same thing. Perfect photo op right there!
I get my haircut there! Well, I did... until the government stopped us looking pretty..
Best motorcycle content in the industry, hands down. Despite all the weird 2020 (and ongoing) challenges you guys are still knocking it out of the park. Well done!
I ride a GS Adv. from 2008. That‘s the aircooled one. I love it. It does everything so well. Ok, it‘s a tractor compared to the new 1250, but it has Caracter! Here in the Swiss mountains nobody gets away from me. I‘m faster than most riders wenn it gets twisty. When you know what it can do and you are able to ride it well, it is a hell of a bike! No old mans bike!
Sounds familiar, have a 2008 standard 1. But here in the netherlands there aint much thats pulling away on b roads and twisties❤️
@@Spyro811 yes👍💪
I’ve done a few track days on mine - the brake system gets very, very stroppy - never sure which will go first, lever to bar or set fire to pads, hilarious brown pants roulette. An absolute hoot whilst it all works though.
😂
Turning beige pants brown 😂😂
You guys are genuinely ludicrously funny.
I now have 2 new names for my band.
As an owner of a 2007 GS 1200 with seat time on 1985 to 2019 GS's, I concur with your observations.
My dream is a new 1300 but with the same electronics as the 07.
It came to my mind one hour ago, that it would be so cool if there was a new 44teeth video released today. Totally made my day! Thank you lads!
After riding for 24 years, I believe I understand what I love and hate about riding (excluding track riding) every day and touring. The journey has been full of fun, regrets and lots of money. Finally riding the R1250GS I understand why they are so very popular, for me, it is the best bike I have ever ridden. I will be ordering one this year, if you are passionate about riding and adventure this needs to be on your list to experience. Excellent review lads, thank you and thank you BMW. Safe roads for you all.
Ah how I love to listen and watch and ruminate along with you. Love my 2020 GSA.
“Is there a point to this video. Probably not...”
Doesnt matter. Its a 44teeth video so gets a watch and a thumbs up for sheer entertainment vaule 👍🏽
I will just keep laughing at your old mans bike with a heated seat while i freeze my ass off
My missus said I looked ‘too German, and too angry’ when I test rode a 1250 last year.
Must’ve been my blonde hair.
Its mostly the shitty design of the bike
Were you rocking a sidecar with mounted mg42?
Back in the 80's, when I owned a new K100RS, I used to say BMW stood for "Best Motorcycle in the World". ;)
Love these "joint" rides where we hear the banter between you two. Excellent content, mates.
I have only been on bikes for 4 years now and I am always stunned at how some bikers (inverted snobbery) look down their nose at GS riders, I don’t have one myself but wish I had or could afford one. Great vid guys 👍👍proper bikers
I have never had the nod from a GS rider, I have 3 Different Bikes.
@Tyler Braden That's not a GS thing, it's a BMW thing.
I absolutely loved this video, it felt like the older videos of you two just riding and having a chin wag. Hope to see more of these ones in the future!
Bought my first GS at 33....raised a few eyebrows. Sold it four years later and immediately regretted it. So bought another and now I know I’ll always have one in the garage. Nothing else like it for commuting year-round and touring.
I have a 2015 model and I’m with you on the upgrade. There’s absolutely no point.
SCREW THE BIKEE, I CAME FOR THE BANTER 😂 I'm a gal & I was passing myself 😂😂😂😂 Great stuff!
I’m too young for a GS but I still ride one and I’m only 69! As a GS fan boy I’ve watched your video about 5 times now. It’s a good entertaining, informative and comical vid that reinforces my love of the GS/A. Good work lads 👍
I'm 27 and I've been riding my GSA almost daily for three years now. From all these comments I'm starting to think I might just qualify as too young for one. lol
@@manedwolfwithagmailaccount1478 and then is me 29yo and thinking on getting a GS because is an all around bike is just great. I want something in between 2005 and 2015 any recommendations
Great comparison made between the two of the them. Purchased an olive green GSA three years ago on the strength of BVG ravings. Makes me smile every time I ride it. Best bike I've ever owned.👌👍
It's been too long since we had a video with you both out for a ride. Just what I needed to keep me entertained. Been rewatching all your old videos for enjoyment 👍👍👍
Great vid guys, really enjoyable watch!
Great video guys. Love the BS banter and the views regarding the upgrades. Will be looking forward to getting my GSA in the not too distant future.
Great video. Bought my 1st gsa last Sept. I hated the self cancel indicators too, had dealer cancel it so totally manual now.
Brilliant just what we needed, thanks lads hope you are well 👍
Chris: We can shut off our own indicators
Also Chris: Your indicator is on...
Old school 44Teeth is what I needed today, and you guys have delivered! Laughing at the weather though, I left the UK for Australia four years ago.
Man I am even happy with the older oil cooled GSA. The only thing I really envy from newer models is the smoother gear box. Mine does not have any traction control mode just the ESA which for me is the real magic. Adjusting the suspension from street to dirt is what makes the GS so cool and verstile. Not having electronics aids , wiz wheel, even cruise control can all be solved with little effort and learning the bike. Still for me the best bike I have ever owned.
“Is there a point to this video?... Probably not!” 😂😂😂
6-months ago I rode with a tour group from Pretoria South Africa to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania.
13-days. 7- of us. 2,200 miles.
I rode a brand new BMW R1250GS - a rental.
My cohorts all rode Suzuki V-Strom 650's.
We are all older expert dirt riders with many years experience riding dirt in the Pacific Northwest of WA, USA.
This was our fourth year riding Africa.
I can tell you that at the end of each long day I was so glad to get off that ungainly, porky, top heavy understeering monster.
My colleagues on their Suzuki's had much more pleasurable days.
Swapping bikes they were all glad to be able to get back onto their smaller Suzuki's.
I dumped the bike 4-times in really rough going. Really rough.
In turning in our bikes, 2-weeks later I was billed US$1,100 to repair the damage I had done to the bike.
The best bike in the world - not in my books. Sorry.
Top vid gents. Really entertaining and good review on these two great bikes. Helps me with my decision and it will be the older one and save the cash.
Best entertainment from a motorcycle review I've seen in a long while. Well done boys. Watching in Australia.
Having just ironed out the known kinks in my 2013 delighted to hear that in 2021 little has changed except speed etc! Loved that top box cooperation teamwork job.
Great video as per usual - I purchased a 1250GS in March 2020 after watching a video review by Mr Fagan who had posted a review video of a test ride with a group on a GS he was doing overseas in some exotic location. He said, and I paraphrase, '...everyone should have a GS at some stage of their lives...' or something like that. On the strength of that I went for a test ride. After that I traded in my two bikes for the GS. Best bike I have ever owned.
Another brilliant video thanks guys
Looking forward to the track contest. Brilliant video guys!
I quite enjoyed this video. Thanks for taking us along.
I had a 2008 R1200gsa….. best bike I ever had. After the beemer, I had a KTM 1290 SAT… lots of power, but thats it… not a beemer ! Today I have e Husqvarna 701 Enduro with a rally kit on it…. Hmm…. I wouldnt ride far on it….. So I have decided to find a GSA again 😊
you guys are breath of fresh air. Kept me engaged from start till end. I laughed and smiled, great sense of humor. Reward was that I made my decision to buy 17plate R1200GSA, 6 k on the clock and saved £9K. Thank you, keep riding safe. If you ever near North Wales, give me a shout and you will have the best curry ever cooked by me to say thank you to both of you in person.
I am 67 and been riding the 1250Gs for over 2 years now. I know I sound like an old fart but my past bikes have been Zx900R a R1 and don’t ask why a Road King.
To me it’s the best of these 3 bikes in one 😁
Excellent review. I am getting a used GS before the summer for everyday use and European trips.
To police van: "Get a propah johb... fook off" - brilliant!
Thanks, boys! That put a smile on my face here in quarantine in Hong Kong.
Great vid, and I agree in regards to the technology issues. I had a new MT10 back in 2016 and a looked to part exchange it for a mt10sp in 2018 but hated the fact I could not changed the ride mode while on the move unlike the normal mt10.
I road both of these bikes extensively. Both are great bikes and if I was doing trans continental type trips, I would have bought one. Instead I have the Triumph Tiger 1200 XCX with all the bells and whistles. For me the Triumph is smoother and way more refined with the quick shifter and suspension control on the fly. The 1200cc Triple is light years ahead of the GS1250 design. To each their own. I choose Triumph....
Enjoyed that gents, great to see Chris back.
I love your humour! Very informative video!
Oh yeah, Great show as usual lads. Love it.
Bikers have certainly changed over the years along with the machines they ride. Today's biker shops at Waitroes and seeks out salad bars. I'm coming back into biking, I'm just not sure I will fit in 🍻
Loved the food "lifestyle" edit scene. Pixels aren't dead "lol". Great vid lads as always x
I own a 2015 GSA in exactly the same livery as yours. Best bike I have owned. No desire to upgrade to 1250. Great comparative video. Thanks!
Nice one lads, great video as always.
A couple of dynamic Pros doing floaters - made my night! 😂👍
10:21 pure motorcyclist moment, thank you and love you man!😂
Right on time for my lunch break!
That was a good video I enjoyed that one. It reminded me of the baron days. This should be a subcategory on 44 teeth Baron and Al chat about bikes.
No need for a sub category, just more of the same, like it _used to be_ .
I started with GSA's when I was way to young by all accounts, have had seven of them now and well and truly qualify age wise to own one at this stage. Currently have a 2020 which cost me way too much to trade up to but I think well worth it in the end as so the extra oomph puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. Would slightly amend the strap line to say the GSA is "The Best All Round Bike in The World, not the best at individual or particular things but where it only one bike that has to do everything, the GSA is the one. I have all sorts of bikes, been riding for way more years than I can remember and have other bikes including sports bikes and some classics. By far the best all rounder is the GS. BTW what tyres were on the 40th Anniversary.
The challenge where you started in Bosnia and went all those countrys in 24 hours is one of my favorite videos of all time
I see à GS in my life in about 10 years. Love the old school content lads, keep it up.
Love how real you guys are and don’t censor yourselves, hats of to you lads in these times of snowflakery. 👊🏼✊🏼🍻
Another brilliantly amusing review 👍
A brilliant review and the exact comparison we’re after👍
A very young 61 on my third GS, a 2019 1250 GSA Exclusive, it’s by far the best package on the road. Unfortunately though had a new left cylinder this year after the valves ate themselves, thank goodness it was under warranty.
1:30 I feel personally attacked. Big ouch, fam....big ouch lol. Much love from TN! Always enjoy the content!
I had GS in my mid-30s and it was a good bike (mostly) but not right for me (nothing to do with age). It was great to ride but was physically too big for me which I could sorta deal with but it also had an intermittent stalling issue that the dealer couldn’t resolve so I swapped it for a Triumph Street Triple (maybe not the most obvious transition) and never looked back. I don’t buy into all of the stereotype nonsense, ride what makes you happy and let others do the same
Cervical ricochet! OMG.............so funny!
About to get one, as soon as this nightmare that is COVID ends. Great video again, love the no nonsense reviews.
It will never end in the same way the flu will never end. So might as well go for the bike now, since it's out of season and you might get a better deal.
Why wait, tomorrow might not come. Dooooo it.
@@kugangles9860 lol don’t worry it’s happening 😃
'So, if you crash into a bush, a nice lady will cum' Legends. This channels makes lockdown less locky, and less down. Thank you so much for the content and making me (likely everyone else smile). Top guys.
I've missed this sort of film! Please, do more!
The Bird World sign is legendary, I used to follow it when on route to my Army barracks in Bordon !
Party time , excellent . 👍🏻
I will ever love it. Thanks!
Thanks for the laughs Nigel, Howard or Keith. Defo should be a Rupert in the mix lol
my new 2019 1250 GS blew clutch out at 2000 miles after 2 (yes TWO) wheelies. Went back to KTM, i needed better reliability. True story.
Gents, this is 44 teeth. You two riding bikes and having good banter. Makes me miss BBB, and hopefully, we'll see boothy come with you!
The best bike journo's on the net:always entertaining. Keep it up chaps.
I sort of wish I didn't like GSes… but once you ride one you realise what a brilliant tool it is
Exactly Timothy
Absolutely spot on with the 1250 nagging you all the time. I have a 1250gs, absolutely brilliant bike to ride and the monster torque is addictive, but, it’s not happy unless it’s shouting at you and that makes it a right pain. I’m actually half considering going back to a 1200gsa coz I’m sick of the 1250 nagging me all the time. See how it goes over the next year, brilliant nagging bike vs really good easy to live with bike 🤔
I bought a 2010 1200 GS in 2011 and had it for 5 years before I stupidly sold it. Since then nothing comes close, so I'm getting another one!!
That was a really good review of the two bikes, well done guys. I had a loner GS when my S1000R was in for a new camshaft and I loved it!
Really like the way you two just chat normally to each other whilst ripping the piss out of each other all the time, just like a couple of best buddies.
Well done and e it up!
Nice to have a visit with the Baron, whinging about auto-cancel turn signals. But seriously... good to have Sue and Jason riding together again.
Nice to see Chris in the vids!
Every time I watch you guys review the GS it makes me want to get one!
Great vid. Just getting out there even when the weather is crappy. The olive green is my favourite colour in that generation too.
Riding a 2019 Honda AT at the moment courtesy of my brother-in-law who is stuck overseas - but I was just thinking to myself today that I've got to get another GS (sold my 2016 TE in 2019). The AT technology is non-intuitive, I don't like the DCT. I will test the KTM 1290 and the Multi 1260 but I pretty much know I will buy a GS1250 already.
Excellent review. I recently bought a Tiger 900 GT Pro and yesterday did a test in Paris on a GS1250 for fun. The strange thing is that it felt a bit like a tractor to me after the Triumph, with a lumpy gearbox, and less effective suspension, BUT, when the time came to give it back, I started to ask myself serious questions about which machine I prefer. The GS has superb handling at all speeds and is very relaxing, while the Triumph is perhaps more exciting. If BMW made me a great offer, I might trade😂 I'm 54 and getting to that GS age.
A little update. Traded it in for a Triple Black 1250GS. Have to admit the anniverary colour scheme was tempting.
Ooo the big man's back.. Great to see..
😂😂😂. Class !!!! Keep the vids coming!! P.S where the damn merch ???????
New range going live tonight 👍🏽
Great fun to watch...they are terrific bikes for sure, and maybe one day, but....!!! 🤣🤣Cheers, Steve
When my kids are grown, I’ll be getting a GS. I don’t have time to enjoy it’s capabilities right now so I’ll keep my Triumph Street Scrambler for short rides. I look forward to touring again one day and there’s nothing better than a GS for that.
Two sorts of GS rider. 5k miles in almost 7 years, and 100,000 miles in 3 years and just run in.
Both called Colin or occasionally, Graham.
This takes me back to the ol BVG videos. Such classics.
