How To Fix Astro A50 Audio Problems (And Other Headsets Too)

- If you’re experiencing sound/audio problems with your Astro A50 headset then this video will help you narrow down (and possibly fix) what is causing it.
I recently fixed a strange static sound issue with my A50s and wanted to share how I went about it. I read loads of articles and watched plenty of CZcams videos, and while some did provide a couple of things to try, there was nothing that grouped all of the information in one place. So that's what I’ve done. I've provided everything I tried and have broken it down into simple steps for you to follow.
I can’t guarantee that any of these suggestions will fix your problem, but at the very least they should help you figure out if your headset is faulty, or if the problem is being caused by your setup.

Yup same issue, was working just fine but the cables suddenly decided to kill itself.
Firmware update solved my issue. There was previously no sound at all, only the mic was working. Thanks a bunch man.

Could the Morse code beeping noise be interference from my router causing the a50s to do that.
Thanks, the reset worked for me 3:28, since for some strange reason the helmets reversed the power button when going down it turned on it was strange, another thing it seemed that they were unpaired because when removing them from the base they did not turn on.

Thank you for your assist! I actually have 2 headsets and 2 bases because i've had probs with these headsets since 1 month into owning them. My biggest issue is the firmware update most recently i could get 1 of the headsets to update but not the other the prob was the 1 i could update had horrble static issues your hard reset fixed it thank God as i've gone 2 days without headphones and i am a f/t charity twitch streamer no bueno again ty now if i could only get the other headset to update firmware i would be happy to have a back up so this doesnt happen again

ok this actually helped a lot and i also had to disconnect my audio cable don’t know what it’s called but kept the usb cable plugged in. not sure if you said to do that cause i only skimmed the video but thank you !!!!

If you hard reset the headset you need to do again th firmware update again ? My problem is that I hear some ticking from time to time on the headset when I listen to music and on the chat in xbox series x any advices ? I changed once the usb port on Xbox haven't tried hard reset still

@@goukigod thanks, I have a static ticking noice once I a while , I am using them on xbox series x and the ticking-static noice keeps coming back especially in party chat and watching twitch and CZcams and also at gameplay , what should I do , I just bought them

If you can only hear the ticking noise sometimes, I’d say it’s likely there’s something else in your setup causing interface. Follow the steps in this video around identifying other devices that could be introducing interference.

Hard reset worked - i had nothing but bad crackling and static noise so could hear your video so visual copied - but it did work the worked out dolby setting was causing the issue so turned off rewatched your video and didnt realise you had to disconnect the base station then hard reset - so all in all it works like new now thank you!!

mine wouldn’t turn on and i didn’t even know that there was a hard reset function but that fixed all of my problems and saved me from buying a new pair.

Hey so my problem isn’t the same as yours but i was wondering if you know why my headphones whenever i lift them up the battery display, the dolby and the number preset disappears causing the mic not to work whether that means hearing or talking
Thank you so much for this, apparently it was my router. Shut my wifi off and the crackling went away so I went in and changed the channel as you suggested and it seems to be fixed but the weird part is I have had the headset for about a week now and my wifi channel was already set to a channel below the A50 range so why the interference all of a sudden? Very strange lol but thanks again.
Glad it helped! I could be wrong but I believe some routers dynamically change the frequencies they transmit on.

I was getting some interference on my A50’s. Sounded like putting your cellphone next to a speaker then hearing that interference from the radio signals. So, I noticed it was happening around 10-15 minutes on point! It turns out my phone has push notifications. Emails, apps, etc. So, when my phone was requesting info from my wifi it got picked up on my Astor A50’s. What I did to fix it was place my iPhone in Battery Save mode. Which stops those background app refreshes mentioned previously. After doing that the interference issue went away ASAP lol. That was my fix. No need to bother with wifi channels or anything.

Hi I’m back I have another question one is about the mic quality,I can heat my self from someone else’s echo and it sounds like a one dollar mic and another question is How do I stop the mic static it every couple minutes in a beep period then stops then comes back again

Question if I don’t buy the adapter that’s recommended to connect the Astro50s to the ps5 . Would that be a reason it’s giving me the annoying static sound ?
No. Not having an optical cable limits your ability to split the chat and game audio but should not introduce interference.

Thanks man. My problem was the optical audio cable. I was able to somehow fix it. Anyways the sound is kind of weird. It has some kind of reverb as if i am standing in an empty hall. Do you have any solutions to this problem? I would be really glad if you can help me.
You might need to use the command center to reset the presets. Make sure you e updated it too

Not sure if anyone has solved this issue or not, but has anyone been able to figure out the AUX issue? I know the issue I'm at least having seems to be solely located in the base station and some say it might be a grounding issue. Tried multiple auxiliary cables and multiple audio devices, but the issue seems to be located in the base station. I did see someone say to get a AUX ground loop noise canceller, but wasn't sure if that has worked for others.
Hi i am using the astro a50 gen4 on my ps4 slim.
And everytime i set my playstation in rest mode the headset doesn't charge.

I have the wireless astro a20 gen 2 headset and recently they started crackling when it gets loud even when I turn the volume down I can still here the crackling, tried hard reseting and it does nothing I litterly tried everything i can find on the internet I tried updating I tried other cables I can t find the issue any tips?

Hey I need help. My headset sounds great with a audio Jack plugged into the base but every sound coming from my Xbox sounds like the speakers are blown. Idk what to do to fix this because I’ve tried everything. Maybe it’s my optical cable? I’m not sure??
When I went to turn up my volume on my headset it goes quieter

Setting it to chat audio is the recommended setup.
I just punched the side of my head and I removed the static sound. Violence is always the answer!

Make sure you’re running the current firmware. Power-cycle it.
Plug it all back in and re-try.
If it’s still working try it with another device e.g. PC/Mac
I’m trying to use the aux port for my MacBook, and I’m using the usb for my pc and I’m hearing static when I use the aux
My headphones make my xbox, pc, and phone panic and ghost presses buttons opening random tabs, menus. It drives me absolutely insane.
When I plug the optical from my tv to the Astro's base it causes a sound delay ... do you have something for that?
Don't plug it into your TV. Unless your TV has audio sync settings there's no way to fix that. Your best bet is to run to audio directly from the source.
My issue with mine is the thing is like on like when you turn it on it glows white well mine is glowing when it’s off I don’t know what to do

Does the Astro a50 Xbox version work on the ps5? I have tried everything but my ps5 simply will not let me use the EQ, everyone in the party echoes and my ps5 output isn’t registering to headphones only hdmi (tv) is there a fix for this?
I don't think you can use the xbox with playstation or visa versa and get full functionality. My understanding is that both platforms require different configurations for chat and other settings which is why the two models need to exist.
I just recently got the 4th gens and was wondering if there was any way to use them with all audio instead of just chat audio as I don’t really want my friends yelling out of my tv
Using Chat audio is what prevents the chat audio from coming out of the TV. You can direct all audio to the headset though.

The only thing I can think of is it being some kind of issue with balance. You could check both the command centre and the device you've connected them to to see if your left/right balance is equal.
hey mate, ive got a astro A50 gen 4 for pc/ps.
ive also got the xbox dock so i can have one headset & both docks for PC & Xbox.
since the start of having them ive had so many wierd issues
1.audio being swapped (left/right)
2. audio starts to go slowly quiet or slowly loud.
3.audio completely turns off & need to reset dock & headset.
please let me know if you know any good fixes for these issues please
Now that's what I call an edge case!
It could be caused by both docks fighting each other for control. I'd start by using only one dock at a time. ie have only one dock plugged in at a time and have the other one totally unplugged. Try both docks this way. This might narrow down if there's a fault with either of the docks or if the problems are caused by the twin dock setup.

unfortunately ive had the audio left/right swapped previous to having 2 docks, so may have to check if theirs any updates or what not.
So i am having the issue where i am listening to music or youtube in my astro a50 and while im in discord, the other people can hear my music subtly, but can still hear it. Ive never had this happen. Any recommendations as to what i can do to make everyone else not hear what time listening to?
Could be sound leakage that the mic is picking up. Try playing with the sidetone setting in the software.
@@goukigod unfortunately that wasnt the issue. played with the sidetone and put it at mute, but people can even still hear your video playing in the background. like if i have it next to my mic.....even when the sidetone is muted. ive never had this happen. weird.

I think I may have an odd one. The static only happens the moment a 3.5mm cable is plugged into the AUX. Doesnt matter if the other end is connected to a device or not, simply connecting a cable to the stations AUX is causing me static
Have you tried a different 3.5mm cable?

Someone help me. I have all the settings done properly, the astros themselves work fine, but there’s still sound coming out of my tv?? It comes out of both the headset and the tv and I’m beyond confused because the audio output is set to just the headphones
I downloaded command center but it won't update or could it be that its already up to date? Bought them like a month and a half ago from Best Buy. I recently started getting the crackling noise 4 day's ago and its driving me insane. I use them on my Asus Rog Zephyrus G15 to game online. Any suggestions???

Hey goukigod i have a problem. i boot up my pc and us my astros just fine but then the next day came and i wanted to watch youtube but it would not start i thought that my internet isnt working but then i used a other headset and the video started again with audio then i used the astors again and i wouldnt start and if i try spotify no audio will come up i changed settings that everyone is using but still there is no audio. i have this problem since Monday. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.

Have you got them plugged in using both the optical cable and the USB and have you changed the primary audio output to optical?

My a50 gen4 are having an issue with party chats on xbox by making everyone sound like a robot and causing me to come through to my friends as a robot. Its updated and its has had a hard reset and nothing has changed.
I put my optical cable into my tv Instead of my Xbox , any issues with this? It seems to work just fine.
You could be getting a little audio latency but if it sounds ok to you then it's probably fine.
I have the same issue but mine is the cracking and popping and the audio cutting out randomly, this all started after getting my ps5 and I'm thinking the wifi 6 is interfering with the sign on the headset
Could it be an issue with the hdmi/optical splitter? Have you tried it with other systems?
@@goukigod nope it isn't even hdmi splitter I've tried it with the splitter and without but still does the same thing. I have noticed that when I start doing an update on my ps5 or I'm downloading a game basically when my ps5 is using alot of internet my a50 start losing signal and cutting out
Could you try hardwiring your PS5 to the internet?

Might be worth trying to download something big across your WiFi and using the headset at the same time. Or messing around with the routers channel settings
Anytime i download the Command Centre either on my xbox or pc, it says plug in astro device even though it is
To ask a silly question: are you changing the switch on the back to the correct position?
Also, as far as I know you can't run the command center softer on an xbox.

Side tone can only be managed through the command center
I also delete the command center and download it again and fix it idk seems old gen bases has something to do too because when I place my headsets on top of it and grab them they disconnect but if I just charge them with a usb cable and unplug them to use they work.

so I have a weird on for you. Recently got a new PC and updated everything with the PC and installed all of the Astro stuff for the headset. when i plug in my headset it makes my videos render continuously, and once i unplug the headset, the videos work fine again. there is also a red light that is just there now 100% or dead, its still there. nothing and i mean nothing works. hard reset, optical cables, nothing. it just wont work on my PC.. but i plug it in to my other, and it works fine with no issues..
Mine have a buzzing/high pitch ringing noise coming from only the left driver constantly. Cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this to stop, if I even can. Hard reset doesn’t do anything and changing cables doesn’t seem to change anything. Xbox series x

Just got mine yesterday played for 3 hrs then played again today hearing the buzzing sound
My solution for the cracking sound was incorrect driver for the optical out on the onboard soundcard, took me 2 days to find the correct.
