  • Scotland & Ireland are the epicentre of Whisky. Ulster was at the heart of the Irish whiskey industry. from the Kingdom of Dalriada and the poitin masters of Donegal, to Ulster's massive whiskey distilleries of the early 20th century. This film also explores the history of the forgotten links between Ulster’s whiskey makers and those of Scotland and how the Scots-Irish brought their whiskey to America.

There’s almost a direct link between Ulster and American whiskey. It was primarily the Scots Irish that became distillers in the colonies and early republic of the United States

Humanity owes the Irish its eternal debt of gratitude for giving the world whiskey. Thank you from a Scotch lover.

I live in the foothills of western NC, but my family moved here from Georgia when I was a child. Recently I found out I am the great great (many greats lol) granddaughter of John George Gordon of Newry, County Down, Ulster province. I’m new to this and I’m the only grandchild researching it for this generation so far. I was following this channel before I even knew my ancestors were from Ulster. They’ve been tugging at my soul to find out my heritage. I’ve gone from knowing nothing about my family to knowing a great deal due to channels like this and because they did a very good job of keeping records. Probably because of their military background in relation to the American Revolution and the Battle of Kings Mountain. My great aunt Sarah Chapman Gordon Law was also considered to be the ‘mother of the confederacy’ due to her opening a hospital for the soldiers in Tennessee during the Civil War.
Thank you for making these videos they have helped me feel the connection I’ve been longing for. They are amazing!

So Ulster is an area in Ireland. Is Ulster whiskey from the region of Ulster in Ireland OR is it name for modern Irish whiskey in general? I love whiskey

@@cameroncarter6789Ulster is Northern Ireland, which is still part of the United Kingdom. That’s a whole other history you should read. Ulster is an old name which pretty much refers to the 6 counties in the Northeast of the island that chose to remain part of Britain and not join the Republic of Ireland. It has a long history of religious hatred and warfare. Protestants vs Catholics

I recognize the process of Whisky distillation from my family roots in Tennessee! My grandfather on my daddy's side of the family was sent Tennessee moonshine in the mail from my great -grandfather. It's a family tradition as Hank Williams Jr. would sing!

Very interesting! Unfortunately, my genetics lean towards beer and I am unable to stand the taste of most distilled alcohol. As for beer, it wasn't until the last 10 years that I could even get close to it due to the smell. Who knows? In the future, I might find myself having developed a taste for whiskey and this will help!

I think the more u drink it the more u like it. There r definitely ways that u learn to enjoy it. Trying different kinds and really trying to savor them and see what ur tasting helped me. No need to force it though.

distillation, not fermentation. Fermentation occurs naturally and we've been drinking fermented alcohol (wine, beer etc) since the dawn of agriculture and likely even earlier. At least in Europe, distilled spirits (brandy, whisky, vodka, etc) as an even remotely widespread beverage are a medieval introduction. cheers
