Daughters, sons, fathers, mothers, etc. would be sold and would never see their families again. Many slave women were raped and were sex slaves. Getting the slaves on ships during the Atlantic slave trade was horrific also. They would stuff so many slaves on the boats and disease would spread. Slaves would be naked and shackled together with chains with barely any room to move. They would be fed miniscule amounts twice daily. The journey could be very deadly. I think that if parents don't want their kids to learn the truth about how slaves were treated, then the school should send out permission slips. The student could miss class until the teacher moved on to the next topic. They should not take away this generations' right to be educated factually.

Not if you pick up a book and actually learn Agriculture was the main source of the economy in the U.S during that time. Europeans taught these skills to slaves that were inherently taught to them by Native Americans. After the Emancipation of Proclamation African Americans who obtained land used these skills to survive. In fact if you pick up a book, you might find there are African Americans who still own land dating back to slavery that's still farmed. But of course you'll have to pick up that book and read it!

Some may not realise it but history is a subject that helps us learn from the past. It also helps us shape the present and future. Sometimes it’s appropriate to discovery and reintroduce things from the past, like learning mathematics, algebra, inventions in agriculture, designs from architecture, systems from different cultures. In other cases, like the holocaust, we (should) learn never to allow that to happen again. Without history to go back to precious and useful knowledge is lost.

And between 1840 and 1860 there were 6,000 black Americans that owned slaves. That is only in the us alone. This is still going on today. These African empires, such as the Asante allowed the Europeans to establish ports in Western Africa. Rather than killing captives, resulting in tribal warfare, the rulers learned that they could make huge profits by selling captives, which began the western slave trade to the Americas and the Caribbean. We also have to remember at that time that Caucasians were forbidden because of a variety of reasons to enter the interior of Africa. Some of these reasons include tribal warfare, disease, attack by animals and the harsh conditions of the jungle.

Getting the slaves on ships during the Atlantic slave trade was horrific also. They would stuff so many slaves on the boats and disease would spread. Slaves would be naked and shackled together with chains with barely any room to move. They would be fed miniscule amounts twice daily. The journey could be very deadly.
I think that if parents don't want their kids to learn the truth about how slaves were treated, then the school should send out permission slips. The student could miss class until the teacher moved on to the next topic. They should not take away this generations' right to be educated factually.

If you're an immigrant that has made the decision to come to the shores or borders of the U.S. then you learn about this lands history. As far as your home country, that is something that should be left up to the parents of that child. Sometimes it’s appropriate to discovery and reintroduce things from the past, like learning mathematics, algebra, inventions in agriculture, designs from architecture, systems from different cultures. In other cases, like the holocaust, we (should) learn never to allow that to happen again. Without history to go back to precious and useful knowledge is lost.

I agree we should teach the whole truth, that black americans owned slaves. In 1830 the US did a census at that time the found 3,777 black Americans owned slaves. And between 1840 and 1860 there were 6,000 black Americans that owned slaves. That is only in the us alone. All I'm saying is the history is dark, and not one of my teachers teached this information in school. I mentioned the Ashante, but they were others. These were very rich and powerful empires that were very warlike also. Slavery was alive and well engaged in a thriving business in eastern Africa. This is still going on today. These African empires, such as the Asante allowed the Europeans to establish ports in Western Africa. Rather than killing captives, resulting in tribal warfare, the rulers learned that they could make huge profits by selling captives, which began the western slave trade to the Americas and the Caribbean.
We also have to remember at that time that Caucasians were forbidden because of a variety of reasons to enter the interior of Africa. Some of these reasons include tribal warfare, disease, attack by animals and the harsh conditions of the jungle.
It doesn't show how some African kingdoms killed slavers coming on shore to buy or capture Africans and how these kingdoms and tribes fought against other kingdoms selling Africans.

Those swords and gowns that are in European museums were not from African blacksmiths and tailors but rather Chinese manufacturing plants.
