It is a more effective tool than using a regular leash attached to a flat collar because you don’t have to yank on their neck if you need to pull them away. The placement of the harness around the muzzle (sort of like a horse reins) means that if you need to quickly pull them away for whatever reason , it forces the dog to have to turn around rather than continue to pull out and away from you.
You need to learn how to properly walk him instead of putting that thing over his face those gentle leaders damage the nerves in their snout. If you want to train him to walk nicely with you you need to lower him which is holding a delicious treat something like chicken or something he really loves by the side of your knee while you're walking and reward him every few feet and then you start cutting down on the trees all the while giving him the command of by me or h e a l
