    Finally found some relays and got them replaced. So far so good! It is cycling now and even through the filter cleaning cycle and shuts off at 102. Thanks for all of the help guys.

      rpmtechtv...Well..After a year, it is doing it again...The stock relays just seem to not have enough heat resistance. Can you look up your purchase history on ebay and see which ones you actually purchased?

    Awesome video. Thanks. I have used the copper braid for desoldering many times. I like your tip that you tapped the relay with a screwdriver to see if it freed up to diagnose the problem.... A link to your relays would have been nice. One you tube tip: turn off the radio when filming please.

    this video was a demonstration on what can go wrong with a control board that is in charge of cycling off and on the major components of a hot tub. The video is approximately 7 minutes long and I believe I did a pretty good job at describing how these things operate what commonly goes wrong how to relatively easily fix the problem with a little bit of research involved in sourcing a compatible relay. certainly I could have done a better job with the video. and for sure I could have done a better job supplying part numbers specifically. please understand that not every hot tub and not every hot tub controller is going to use the same relay. so this was a general information video to show you a common component that fails on these control boards. if it seems to be long and drawn out it was so you would learn something about the process and learn the theory behind why these components often fail after a few years of use. some people just want to know how to fix there problem they do not care why or do not care to learn the theory behind why something failed they just want to know how to fix it. I have been a professional troubleshooter for over 30 years. comprehending and understanding how things work is essential at understanding what might be at fault and what may be failing. this is an educational video only with that main purpose in mind to help other individuals possibly and saving money and fixing your own hot tub. I hope it helps someone

    rpmtech... Thanks for the video. You inspired me to try this on my own. I've never worked on a circuit board before but figured... It doesn't work anyway. My own observations on desoldering. Wicking braid worked well for all surface solder but did not wick up the solder from the through holes. The sucker pump was worthless for me. The key is a $15.00 desoldering iron from Radio Shack that has a tip with a hole in it and a pump for sucking built right in. This made the process a breeze for a novice like me.
    I'm hoping to install sometime this week. Thanks for the inspiration and how to video.

    Thanks for this, my friend and I replaced the relays plus there were some pins inside the RJ45 port that were a little off, so my panel wasn't making a good connection and wasn't working fully. We bent them back and my hot tub is as good as new! Hopefully I'll get another 10 years out of it.

    I did not save any part numbers for my spa relays. relays are very basic and standard items for controls like this. The basics are the package design. the pin locations and the current and coil voltage ratings. If you have your board in your hand, you should be able to get some reference numbers from the relays. I highly suggest changing them all. they will wear out eventually. search ebay and amazon, www.partsexpress.com etc for those numbers you find on your relays for a cross reference. remember that they change the specs over the years on these boards also. I went with heavier duty relays that happened to fit in the hols on the PCB. HOWEVER in some cases you could solder wires to the PCB and remotely mount the relay on epoxy or even silicone rubber caulk if you wanted. Understand that a relay like this si simply a magnetic coil (with voltage spec *important*) and then either normally open or normally closed or BOTH. Understanding these basics you should be able to hack in a relay that meets or exceeds the specs and it will work and if you do like I did and use industrial quality relays it will never fail you again. I repaired my father's tub controller and we used a large contactor style relay rated at 50amps and I mounted it in a metal box outside the controller enclosure. He didn't have the time or money to wait for a relay of exact fit. His will last 200 years because the motor is drawing 2.1 amps.
    The point of my video is to show you what often wears out on these tubs ..all tubs in fact. relays that cycle, wear out. period. They are cheap and easy to replace but you might have to do some research or substitution to get it working. iN general go bigger and you will be fine.

    Thank you, this video was very helpful. My tub turned off the other night while in and would not run again. I clicked motor on and could here a clicking from circuit board but no power to motor. Voltage present at board, fuses good. But no power out of input for harness to motor. I will try swapping relays. Wish me luck.

    +1 for this procedure. Saved me $400… but realistically saved the tub. $15 relays instead. Tub was over heating until it shut itself down with OH displayed on the topside control. …and it got HOT. Pump again turns off at desired temp.

    HI again, I have got my balboa circuit board back from the repairers. It warms only to 29 degrees even if I have it set for 38 degrees. All relays have been changed. When I lowered the heat to 26, I see the temp light goes off. And I hear a small click. Then I put it back to 38 and get a small click. The heat light then flashes and then is steady after 90secs. but it is not going over 29 ? The fuses look fine, but the big main one is not glass, so would need to check that one. I checked the AC current on the element, with it all powered up, And it read nothing. is this strange or what? The element is warmish to touch not hot to burn yourself. I need to switch it off now to check, the ohms. just checked the ohms, around 18,9-19? What does this mean if it is not around 11 or 12? I don't know where the problem is, any ideas?

    My tub kept tripping the breaker I have a dream maker with the Mach 7 and it heats up from the pump I believe. I unplugged the pump and it stays on now. What would that mean? Bad pump or bad board?

      you can test them I believe with a multi meter and also a magnet to see if they're stuck. We just replaced my relays and it was pretty simple.

    My Dream Maker cycles as it should, gets up to 104 no problem, temp up and down button work... i have no lights inside the tub and the jets will not go into high pressure. those 2 buttons aren't working... I was guessing relays and came across this video. any thoughts on my issue?

    • @w0by
      @w0by Před 3 lety

      I just had an issue with mine where my jets and heat up button weren't working. It was actually due to where the topside display plugs into the board, it's an RJ45 port, the pins were a little bent for some reason, but we carefully bent them back and my hot tub works like new again. I have no clue how those pins got bent because I've never even opened the board until recently.

      @@VWAdventures9905 My spa is a Mach 7 control pack balboa just like the video so there is only one pump (no heater), all I did was remove the board from the Mach 7 like the video and read the specs of the relays, I found relays with the same specs on Amazon, they look exactly like the ones in this video. I had someone locally install them and crossed my fingers that this was the problem... It was the problem... I replaced all relays on the board so hopefully it's good for a while. First make sure your pump is not the problem, then get a magnifying glass to read the specs on your relays so you can cross reference and buy online.
