  • (Before You Start... SHUT OFF THE BREAKER)
    In this video I will show you 6 Common things that will cause a GFCI breaker to trip...This is a process of elimination it does take a little time to figure out what is causing the breaker to trip.
    (One thing that helps me )...If you have a cell phone camera take pictures as you remove each connector or mark each connector with a sharpie.... it makes the replacement process go smoothly.
    BalBoa Spa Equipment is one of the best in the industry and very easy to figure out what is causing the problem if the GFCI Breaker keeps tripping there are really only 6 things to check for if by chance all six components check out ? its most likely the board.( check out my other Video on how to change the board on a BalBoa Pack)

    You are the best, Sr. I will check mine and update this post once it gets fixed. Thanks. UPDATE: Once I removed the cover and start checking for leaks, I noticed drops coming out from the inner Clearray system (Jacuzzi-J345), rust in the nuts and humidity in the floor of the tub, close to one of the pumps. I disconnected the Clearray system from the tubing, the system board and removed it completely from the tub. Now the tub has been working for more than 3 hours without tripping the breaker. I think I found it! Thanks!

    I just want to give you a huge thanks for making your videos. Specifically this one. We got a new sundance cameo 880 yesterday (here in AZ) and filled it and just kept tripping the breaker trying to turn it on. It was very frustrating. We figured out by doing the elimination process (after checking the gfci wiring per your other videos) it is the blower tripping the gfci so at least we know. Hopefully we can get a tech out quickly from our dealership to deal with the blower. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these!!

    I repair for a living. Don't work on hot tubs as of yet. But after what you just showed me. This is just like working on all the appliances, water heaters, furnaces, and AC I troubleshoot and repair. I will not turn down the next hot tub repair. Just last night one of my customers said GFCI would not reset. I went up to look at the electrical. Nothing more than they were not resetting the breaker before turning it back on. Found no problems after resetting it. Everything ran fine. It was an easy money service call. But that said. Yes, I am going to start working on Hot tubs now. Thanks for the heads-up video. I like your style in video.

    Thank you for the video I never usually comment but great video. I tried for hours today to try and get my hot tub to stop tripping the switch everytime I powered it on... after watching your video I just went back out in the dark with a flood light and I think it is the heating element cable. 1 of the round circles on the nut is burned and managed to get my hottub to power on and stay on after disconnected the heating element cable and the hot tub stayed on. Your video saved me. It was the Ozonator, that when it was plugged in, kept tripping the breaker. Spa tech had told us it was the main GFCI breaker, so we had an electrician replaced it, but then nothing would turn on. Found your videos and your tip on the Ozonator. I disconnected it from the panel, and the pumps and blower turned on. Only thing now is that with the ozonator off, a "Clicking" sound comes on. Is it because of the Ozonator being disconnected? Waiting for a new Ozonator to arrive to install it. Thank you so very much! subscribed and have made sure to mention your videos as many times as I can!

    I kept narrowing it down. I finally found this little blue box that had a hollow ear tube connected to it in a power supply had to do some research found out it was in the ozonator so I contacted a few companies they're the ones that educated me on the fact that it was an ozonator. . They kept trying to tell me it was the ozonator well after doing some research I found out there's a funny little tiny plastic part called the backflow valve because nothing else is leaking on the hot tub last winter it leaked all the water out and after looking at the mold and everything inside it all came from that resonator I have a brand new heater brand new split couplers brand new everything there's almost nothing this hot tub doesn't have that's not brand new how can a little electric part have water in it boggles my mind anyways ozoneated well I'm going to try a back flow valve. By the way my hot tub is accused backyard vs series which has all Balboa parts

      I am kinda confused You say you bought it new and it trips the breaker when turned on and its been sitting empty for two years and you still need to run power to it.

When I flipped the breaker back on it instantly tripped. Tried it like four times and it tripped instantly every time so I guess I'm opening it up and start unplugging stuff.

It runs fine for a while and usually when the cycle shuts down it can trip the breaker. I tried disconnecting everything and repluging like you said. It's not the heater or ozone devices but seems to be the 2 speed left hand motor that is the problem but the motor runs fine. Replaced the main breaker. Any suggestions about the motor? ***Question***Right off the bat I think you helped me! Last spring my hot tub tripped a couple times after I had everything clean and prepped after the winter. I also noticed the water level slowly going down. Instead of figuring it out, I just shut it down (busy times). Now, a year later I need it back up and running. Last week I opened the panels and turned the breaker on. I instantly noticed water spraying from the bolts on the heater. The breaker quickly tripped. Now it doesn’t come in at all. Your video showed me that I have a heater problem. My question is, because my system doesn’t do anything at all now, should I replace all the components in the box, or should I just replace the heater and fuses? Appreciate anything you can offer!!

    You can use a megger to check the insulation integrity of the heater and pump motors. We had a GFI breaker that nuisance tripped even though everything tested out OK with the megger. Small leaks to ground will cause this issue.

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Před 3 lety

      Ya ..A couple months ago had a spa that would only trip breaker once in a while but very frustrating to say the least.. checked every thing and all tested good.. I read something from another Spa Tech and went and tested it and he was right heater had a tiny tiny pin hole and would only trip every now and then .. We replaced it and haven't herd from the customer since.. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    • @rodgraff1782
      @rodgraff1782 Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, that is the kind of nuisance trip that I use a megger for. I can generate 500 volts with the hand crank to test for insulation leakage to ground, where an ohmmeter would only use 9 volts. The meggers high voltage will make any defect arc to ground. Evidently, I must have had a defective GFCI breaker. We sold that particular hot tub with the house in August.

    Trying to tell what the cause of my GFCI instant tripping when pump switch pushed on a 2009 Hot Spring Jetsetter with a Wavemaster 7000 pump unit, I found the culprit was corrosion on the output shaft at the pump bearing side...scraped and wire brushed + WD40 solved the issue...some "repair" folks would have just replaced it for $$$, without even looking for that causing the trip!

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Před rokem

      If the cir pump is any older then 5 to 7 years ??? You are on borrowed time and it would be better to replace it.. Ive had pumps like that go out and burn the board connections because it didn't trip.. I look at it like tires on a car after so many years just because they hold air might be dry rotted and leave you stranded with a flat...Just food for thought. Right on fixing it your self. @@spaman5440 Thanks for the heads-up...however this GF problem was with the MAIN JET PUMP, not the separate, constant-on circulating pump. Now that I've replaced a leaking non-repairable double-tube heater unit--that was otherwise working fine (that probably added to the corrosion issue on the jet pump), I guess I should probably put a replacement circ pump on my maintenance to-do list next spring!

    I wish there was a better aftermarket heater - it is such a lousy design and not a good quality part. I just replaced mine with a supposedly OEM one and one of the temp sensors that came in it was DOA and out of spec so it would throw a temperature probe error. I was able to use the ones from the bad heater which worked. Now a few months later the new heater is tripping the GFCI again. That electrical connection on the heater is such a bad design too. I had to grind down a wrench to hold the stud because you have so little room. Guess I'll buy another one and hope it is a better unit.

      Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble..
      In all of the years that I have been doing Spa repairs Balboa is by far one of the best designs on the market. So I see this all the time with home owners You might of bought the wrong heaters with the wrong sensors. A lot of DIYer think they are buying an OEM part when in fact it is an after market part sometime you get lucky sometimes not. As for the electrical connection... Make sure you put the washer on the right side of the connection and they make a special 1/4 wrench for that task.
      I never use aftermarket parts because of the problems you are having

When I opened this new used unit it’s tripping breaker and idk what’s wrong yet , but here’s two issues I see , in the main panel the neutrals and grounds are all sorts of mixed up rather then designation of one bus for ground and another for common … second seems to be pump in plugged into pump 2 rather then pump one

    I have a Balboa spa and I have diagnosed very similar to yours. New breakers new wiring. It won't trip when you turn it on and you can run pump one and two fine and the blower and it heats up. However if you first turn the spa on and hit the program button on the control panel it's trips the breaker. If you turn it on and turn everything else on first then hit program it doesn't trip 🤷🏼
    I'm guessing it has to be the control panel but it's just a mystery to me.
