I have a cockatiel, his name is Rinn. I got him around late 2018, and it is theorized that he came from either an abusive home, a neglectful home, or both. When I went to visit him at the bird store to see if we clicked before bringing him home, the employees told me that his previous owners just aggressively shoved his cage into their hands and said âtake him. We donât want him anymore, heâs horrible. He bites, he hisses, just take himâ they didnât even get his name before they left (so I named him Rinn).
Rinn and I seemed to click immediately when I visited him at the bird store. They brought him out for me, and clipped his wings for his safety before letting me hold him. He didnât try to fly away from me like he did with other people, and loved sitting on my shoulder in the shop. The employees commented on how well he seemed to enjoy being with me. They said he wasnât aggressive or terrible like his previous owners claimed, but it was clear that he had some trauma and was skeptical of humans. I have some trauma too, and so I like to believe that we both sensed we needed each other, which is why we clicked so well upon first meeting.
When I brought him home I brought his cage with me into every room I went into, and talked to him frequently, and often narrated what I was doing in front of him so he could get used to my voice. I also began singing to him every night before putting him to bed. He always loved that so much, and itâs something that I still do to this day every night. I did notice that he was quite afraid of hands, and loud voices or noises. Which makes me believe that they were aggressive when handling him, didnât respect his boundaries, and yelled at him when frustrated.
It took him a long way, but he IS a very sweet boy. Iâm so proud of how far heâs come. Loving meeting new people, going on walks, and even being touched. He still has a hard time with touch sometimes, but itâs such an improvement from him being afraid of touch, to loving head scritches and kisses. He has his own way of letting others know when heâs giving you permission to touch him, so itâs easy for us to know when he does and doesnât want to be touched. I love him so much, and I know that he loves me too. He hates it when I leave the room and calls for me to come back, which really pulls on my heart strings, so I be sure to give him extra love when I return. Heâs the best thing thatâs ever happened to me, and Iâm so SO proud of my fluffy little companion and how far heâs come despite clearly being in a rough situation before â€ïž kudos to you if you read all of this btw

I just wish my budgies showed some signs of interest towards anything outside of the cage....I keep the cage open every day when Iâm home, but not once do they leave it, or sit just on top of it...
My budgie does that too
mine budgies go crazy outsideđ
Be happy mine poops everywhere and destroys everything đđđđ
I recommend getting your budgies a little bird playground, you can put it outside there cage and they might find interest with it. they aren't that expensive and you can also get one from your local pet store. Another thing might be something scaring your budgies thats in there room, if you notice your budgies eyeing something in the room, take note of what it is and hide it so they won't be afraid.
I am just watching this video so my bird can stop peeling off my shirt buttons đ
My baby budgie was very gentle with me until the other older one started biting him. When he bit me hard enough to hurt, I grabbed his beak and held it until he let go. Only took a few times before he decided there was no point in biting so hard.

my budgie doesn't like when I handle him or touch him but recently he has started landing on my shoulders and has started nipping at my clothes? I can't tell if it's aggressive or if he's trying to return the favor of me preening him. He's also starting headbutting things like perches, or things that he lands on. Thoughts?
its how hes trying to get bitten by his budgie to film example but the budgies love him sm so they dont even do anything more than softly biting his hand for 0.0001 sec đ đ

My budgie does bite but only when he plays with me! i just thougt him to step up! he is very cute and good! and ur video: How to get your bird to step up.actually works! thanks so much! you are the best
Budgies are naturally built with social structures in mind. The most effective, and least cruel, punishment is to simply let it down to where it clearly sees you, and walk away while looking at it directly. It will understand you donât appreciate whatever itâs done, and will be discouraged slightly. And so persistently using this method to discourage repeated bad behaviour, it will stop. Hopefully.
Thanks but I have a question because my birds are in the place I can't play with them so can you please tell me what to do
So the video was good and helpful but I have a question what if your bird is not playful and doesn't bite you. He just wants to be in its cage all the time.
hi how so u keep them from flaying away without cotuing their fethers?
Hey man Iâm always doing those steps but my birds are always very scared of me I think I am doing something wrong

I have a request. I have a white parakeet who's beak tends to overgrow. This has happened twice in the 3 years I've had this bird. I have things in the cage for chewing and filing for beaks but she doesn't use it. I've changed the diet and nothing has changed her beak just grows and get very long. What can I do? I don't have a local aviary vet or any vet that knows birds to visit.
I have one Albino budgie and few weeks ago i Bought a purple one... the Albino was trasted me, not much but we make a progress... since i bought the the second one.. because its younger and more active ... my little albino starts to scared me and the purple one dont let me get close to my albino ... they fell in love with each other clearly but now i dont know how to trained them... i only can feed them snacks that they love ,they allow me to feed them from my hand but now i cant trained them ... a little help ?

Hello Salvador budgie when i cover my birds they eat the thread of the cover all the time can you make a vidoe talking about how to stop it
Thank you for the information! but there's one question that I have trying to ask you. if we try to tame a budgie and do it inside a cage, we shouldn't do it in front of another bird? I am planning on buying a male and a female budgie. If I try to tame one, would the other one be sad or want attention?
Hi
I suggest on getting one budgie first, taming it and then getting another one and tame it separately from the first one.
The reason for that isn't because one of them will want attention, it's because it will distract the taming budgie and will make it harder for you to tame them successfully.
@@Bird-Nuggets I will try this! Thank you so much
i have one who bites me when i try to interact or just feed them, im trying giving some food and talk (or stay close), but she dont like it, when she put eggs i can understand she want to protect them, but when this "period" its end and i try stay close, she just dont want to, what can i do? My budgie keeps biting me but it doesnt actually hurt but it tickles instead does that mean that they like me or they are actually biting
Hi so I've had to little budgies for 4 months now and I offer them toys and let them out the cage and spend time with them. But when I first got them they always wanted to be with me but the after they stayed at my friend's house they only go on my finger and they hate getting scratches and don't really like me anymore. And I don't know what to do. And I've been trying everything. And when I try preen them they just bite me so I go away
I have a small one and it is very aggressive with my fingers and is very independent , i cannot touch him and it making a sound like /âdo not touch me mateâ
I have 2 lovebirds .. Which I bought it from a store 5 months back..i tried taming them but in vain.. Still haven't gain their trust.. Tried feeding them with different fruits n veggies but all they eat is foxtail millet seeds.. Sometimes mixed seeds like sunflowers n pumpkin seeds.
I tried interacting with them but they show least interest in everything.
What can I do?
Please guide.

What can i do... My bird lost the trust immediately an now I dont know how to gain it back. Can u help me with that?
You my birds like playing with my socks so I actually lightly toss my socks their way and they try to catch it. When they do, they drag it away into my book shelf lol. I also think my adopted bird just plays too rough, hopefully she doesn't hate me.
I like love bridsđ
I actually found a Budgie on the side of the road in a cage someone had abandoned. 1year later he still around biting me. Ive been trying everything to stop it from biting me but more than likely its the old owner that ruined it.
try giving food with your hand. like put in your hand and just stay still. dont move for 5 minutes or more. Try this everyday and maybe he will eat from your hand and relearn that hands arent bad. sometimes it helps when the scared budgie has a partner budgie who isnt scared to do the first move. They usually can build courage like that. Hope that helps. Best wishes mate

I think my bird is just beaking me, but doesnât realize it hurts. She will willingly come to my fingers slowly, and she doesnât open her beak and lunge at me. She just squeezes my fingers with her beak. It rarely draws blood, and just leaves a dent. She is a very young Sun Conure, only 6-7 months old. Is this common in all birds?
Why does my budgies lick my hand all the time when I approach them?
Plz make video on flinches birds
My male and female birds bites each other..is that good or bad?

Iâve had my parakeet for a year and a half now, he bites me and has never liked me before. I just got him a friend, Iâve done everything I can do make them like me, nothing has worked I need help!
My Parrot bites me purposely when i feed her with my hand, like my pinky finger is far from the food but she will bite it. What is wrong?
Thankfully my birds were exactly like my expectations they didint bite me gently played with me ate from my hand ate with me and all of that I dint disturb them during sleep and they loved me
I have a blue crown conure and the reason why she bites me is bc i spent time with my mom and her favorite person is my mom
My budgie is licking me is that a bad thing?
Hey! I was 10 when I first got my budgie, and now I'm 13, and I don't know what to do because my budgie has never been out of its cage yet and bites me whenever i go near him or change something real quick in his cage. I regret not trying to tame or do anything with him but then again I was still a little younger and confused. He's really aggressive. Is it still possible to get him to stop this, and earn his trust back and tame him??
Try to take him outside his cage, wear gloves and if he doesnât perch on ur finger than grab him. Grabbing is not the best option but if ur desperate ig youâll have to go with it
@@_leena3825grabbing will only make the bird hate them more
I dont know why my bird hate me and bite me because I dont do anything when I open her cage He bite me and i dont Touch him please can i know why He is bite me
I think my bird doesnât like me anymore.. She hides in her tent when I go near the cage, when she used to make noise and follow me inside the cage, she doesnât want to go outside, when she used to want to be out and near me all the time, she only goes out to eat when I change her food, or she jumps on me and bites me hard. I tried to redirect her attention to toys which she used to love playing with, but now she ignores them and keeps biting my hand. She only shows interest in millet. I havenât been able to give enough attention due to my mental health and now sheâs scared and hates meâŠ
Okay so... my budgie perches my finger and I praise him and I reach for his millets. Then he starts trying to kill me by biting me extremely hard. WAT IS DAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN XD do I give him a treat or not? Cuz I don't if he bites and I do if he perches my finger!
Good jobâŠ

My male parakeet has become aggressive since his fifth month. He was very sweet, he was always on my shoulder and he had learned to talk, we had a beautiful relationship. Then one day, suddenly and for no apparent reason, he started biting. It bites so wildly it makes me bleed. The problem is that he attacks on purpose! As soon as I let him out of the cage he pounces on me and spends all the time flying on me to bite. He lives in a peaceful environment, he has always only received love and respect, companionship and the best nutrition, toys, a beautiful and large cage, the best I could offer him. He also had a partner, so the reason was not loneliness (she died a few days ago unfortunately, and before to put another friend near him I would like to resolve the situation. I) am really heartbroken, I don't know what to do; after discarding all other hypotheses i have come to speculate that he has some mental problem; it's possible?
what type of parakeet
@@zerozombie2233 is a budgie.
@@mariagraziasiscar1223 have u changed something or anything like food/diet or doing stuff he does not agree ewhit
Hi Maria
I'm sorry about your loss, and I'm also sorry about your aggressive budgie.
This actually sounds like a very strange behavior, budgies don't just change their behavior suddenly, something caused him to do that.
Here is an example, my first budgie Salvadora was the sweetest bird until she got droppings stuck around her beak and I very gently wiped it off...since then she became very aggressive and was always biting when she had the opportunity.
The only thing that helped calm her down was not reacting to her bites (as painful as they are) - and overtime she gradually stopped biting.
You should try doing the same, I don't think it's a mental problem.
@@Bird-Nuggets Thanks for your comment. In fact, I never reacted to his bites, I continued to be sweet to him. The strange thing is that he wants my full attention. He wants me to talk to him all the time, and when I talk to him (while he's on my hand or shoulder) he calms down a bit. As I wrote in another comment, he seems obsessed with me from day one, but when he was little he didn't bite.
How an I gonna make my bird go outside the cage is not tame yet
