    Hello Cpt.
    Sorry I'm only getting back to you now, it was a bit stressful.
    Another great departure video from LOWS. 👌👍
    I'm always overwhelmed by the great cockpit videos. 🥇
    It was bright sunshine that day.
    I also think it's really great how YOU communicate with your FO.
    You radiate enormous calm, competence and experience. 🏆
    It's great!
    With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice weekend.

    A pleasure to watch, as always captain! Probably the unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer the departure videos over the arrival videos. Can't really tell why, both are highly interesting. But your departure videos always have that special something with all the cockpit preperations, start-, taxi- and takeoff-procedures and ATC/ground crew communication. Keep it up!

    Dear Stefan, superb video as usual, and great to hear that Tiktok issue is on the right track. My question is why the RWY33 was the selected direction with this wind conditions? I know that tailwind was within limits, but as I saw some SIDs are also available in RWY15 direction, also ATIS mentioned rwy 15 in use. My best guess is fuel saving, as it is shorter towards EDDL. Thanks so much, regards from Hungary.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Thank you so much for watching, your feedback and your support for the channel! The main reason is that due to the close obstacles (mountains) in the takeoff path for runway 15, we prefer a takeoff from runway 33, even with tailwind as long as the wind is in limits. Sure, the flight is also shorter, saves fuel and makes less noise near the city of Salzburg. Many greetings to Hungary!

      Most of the time, we are pushed back from the parking position. Some airports have pushback and taxi out positions. Here we had to do a tight right turn out. If we do not know from previous experience at the same airport / parking position, ATC or the ground crew will tell us.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching and your great feedback! 5 seconds after takeoff and at a minimum altitude of 100 feet above the ground, the autopilot may be switched on. This is the minimum. After that, the pilot flying decides on his or her own when she or he switches the autopilot on. I wish you all the best for your ATP training!

  • @HolgerTeutsch
    @HolgerTeutsch Před 8 měsíci +1

    As always a very instructive video!
    One question: It looks like you always get your IFR clearance after you programmed the FMGS. How are you sure which SID you will get? (Likely not a problem at LOWS for 33 but in general)

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Thanks for your good feedback! The basis of any IFR flight is a filed IFR flight plan. This is done by the company sometime before the flight takes place. This flight plan starts at a certain navigation fix. Usually this fix is the end of a standard instrument departure. Before we get the departure clearance from ATC we know from the ATIS which runway is in use. If there is only one instrument departure routing from this runway to the fix, the clearance cannot be different. Sometimes there are several routings to the same fix. If this is the case, we know from prior experience which departure routing we have to expect or we ask ATC about it. But surprises are always possible. Once in a while we get a completely different departure routing and fly from the endpoint or an intermediate point to the first point of our flight plan.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@godfreyduncan7783 You need a longer landing distance with flaps 3 because the approach speed is about 5 knots faster. It saves a very small amount of fuel, but needs more braking/reverse. The final pitch attitude with Flaps 3 is about 2 degrees higher than with flaps full. Flaps 3 provides less drag than flaps full. Usually, the pilot flying decides what she or he prefers unless operational circumstances dictate a certain flap setting.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci

      No, we only would request runway 15 if the tailwind for a takeoff from runway 33 would be too much and our performance calculation shows that a takeoff from runway 33 is not possible.

    Hey Captain. Nice to see ya back and I hope you could sort the probs out...
    Just a question concerning the dep. RWY: the Wind was coming from 160° and you chose RWY33. I wondred, in this case I thougt RWY15 is nearly perfect. Why RWY33?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci

      If we fly to the north, we usually use runway 33, even with a few knots of tailwind. This makes the flight shorter and runway 33 has way less obstacles in the departure sector than runway 15.

    Missed not seeing a video in my feed last Saturday! Here's hoping that situation is under control now, but time will tell I guess....

      Thanks for watching and your feedback! The process of the removal of the stolen videos is still ongoing. Until today, most of the videos have been removed completely. Some are still visible in several countries. I hope that the process will be finished in a week or so.

    Bene bene, ottimo video.
    A nice take-off: the lady seems very good - "bravissima" - to me; and with your experience sir that gives confidence.
    I'd have a couple of questions if possible:
    - when climbing manually does the pilot look (almost) exclusively at the instruments (primary flight disp., flight director and navigation display)? or is it important to look outward ?
    - is the insertion of the auto-pilot as a rule around 10,000 feet, .. or is it at discretion?
    Thank you if you have the time for one (i.e. two) replies.. Happy weekend to all the crew.

      Thanks for watching, your good feedback and the questions! We call it scanning. This includes watching the instruments and also looking outside. The look outside is very important because we have to watch for other airplanes, obstacles, clouds .. The pilot flying decides when she or he switches the autopilot on. Have a great day!

    Are you on this flights very light or why are your V-Sppeds so low?
    And is it correct that you have a TOBT Time where you want to leave the gate and a Take off time? Or just have a Take Off time and you need to calculate the TOBT with youe Take OFF time?
    Btw, pretty nice Video!

      The A319 has lower speeds than the A320 or A321. The speeds are calculated by the Airbus takeoff performance module. We file a flightplan and the flightplan contains an EOBT (Estimated OFF Block Time). This is the time at which we plan to leave the gate. Here, we got a CTOT (Calculated Takeoff Time) from ATC. We call the CTOT usually Takeoff ATC SLOT. Reason for this CTOT was traffic enroute to the destination. The CTOT is based on the EOBT. It is allowed to takeoff 5 minutes prior the CTOT until 10 minutes after the CTOT. If we cannot manage that, we have to delay the flightplan and will probably get a new CTOT. Sometimes much later than the first one. TOBTs (Target OFFBLOCK TIME) are generated at large CDM airports. These times are set by the handling company and the airport generates a TSAT (Target Startup time) based on the TOBT, the traffic situation on the ground and a possible CTOT for the flight. The TSAT window starts 5 minutes prior the TSAT and ends 5 minutes after the TSAT. If we cannot manage to start the engines in that time frame, we have to reset the TOBT and the airport would generate a new TSAT.

      This is an instrument flight. Main reference are the instruments inside the cockpit. But the outside view is included in our continuous scanning. As long as we are not in the clouds, we always watch for other traffic and obstacles.

      The ND is the navigation display. We have to select the range and if we want to see airports, navaids …. in addition to our routing. Also we have to choose between the weather radar and the terrain picture on the ND.

    the copilot flew the airplane up tp 9800 ft, may be she could have engaged the autopilot from the 1500 ft! no?!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci

      And this is completely ok. There is no requirement to engage the autopilot at 1500 feet or so. She can engage the autopilot whenever she likes. I usually do the same and engage the autopilot at about 10000 feet.

    Let your FOs taxi for god-sake! German airlines seem to operate a Man-Boy cockpit. 90% of other European Airbus operators allow the FO to taxi, are German FOs inferior? And please don't go quoting insurance! It's a lousy (and bullshit) excuse.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks for your feedback! It is not as easy as you say. First of all, as the crew, we strictly follow the company procedures. This has to be done regardless of if we like or dislike the procedures. For safety reasons, there is no room for personal procedure changes. If you operate a large airline or airline group, all procedures, changes of procedures and operational decisions have to go through operational risk assessments. These assessments are done without any pre decisions and with the goal to operate the airplane as safely as possible. Different airlines / airline groups will come up with different results of such operational risk assessments because the prerequisites, airplane types, operational environment are different at every airline or airline group. I worked for different airlines in different countries and some allowed the first officers to taxi, others not. I personally have no problem with a taxiing first officer. But you also need to keep in mind that you cannot change this overnight because a change needs a training program for the first officers and for the captains to implement the procedure change.
