    Thank you so much for your videos Lee, I'm 51yrs of age and have been training on and off in numerous Japanese, Chinese and Filipino styles and you especially will know how disheartened you can get with most of it all after time as a lot of it doesn't translate into real life, it cannot be applied in a pressure tested situation, your videos and style is so refreshing so experience driven, it works, in the situations where reaction is needed a quick violent explosion to end it these techniques drilled into muscle memory will work where a kata or form wont. Like a growling, snarling, bloody breath of fresh air before people can hid record on a camera phone.

    Good example of a situation which often takes place, you can answer with your basic tool box (if you have the right mindset and do not freeze) and it makes no sense to train in a sparring kind of setting because it is fully dependend on the set scenario.

    Thanks for showing realistic self defense, unlike alot of them out there on youtube. I know in the UK they really (neuter you) on self defense like here in some states in the USA.

    Really effective, reduced movements. Teaching my 14 year old daughter to react effectively to intimidation and threats of violence. Enables her to carry herself more confidently, knowing she has some way to deal with problems if/when they arise. Wish I was taught this when I started Shotokan Karate in mid 70s.

    One of the best videos posted. These head strikes can be done when blinded too. If your forearms are in contact with theirs simply driving your arms forward will impact their head/face......

    For some reason your level of awareness was "PISS POOR" and allowed some one to grab you with either one hand or both hands instead of "INTERCEPTING" their movement, LOVE the fact Professor Morrison how you STRESSED that BOTH of your hands should be positioned on the outside of your attacker's arms in a non-aggressive palm facing out manner NOT only does it gives you the EDGE from a defensive response, but, also, a LEGAL one from the standpoint of looking NON-AGGRESSIVE just in case someone with a cell phone or store video is running that could be used as court evidence on your behalf should it go that far. LOVE the HIGH, LOW, HIGH process and the TRAPPING of one of the attacker's hands as you pommel him or her with your other hand. "SPOT ONE!!!" as always Professor Morrison!!! I've got another "TREASURE TROVE" full of USEFUL body mechanics to work on with my best bud "BIG RAY" another Veteran and JKD Instructor like "me self"!!!       @Whites are Amazing Absolutely! We even do clinch work and ground fighting, though it's nowhere near what you'd find at a BJJ or wrestling gym. But yes- we do sparring with moderate power including punches, kicks, knees, elbows, & takedowns.

    It's hard to tell from my desk chair 🧐, but both hands inside doesn't seem bad. The straight palm strike would still be there, maybe followed by an over hook of one arm followed by more strikes. Wish I had a great instructor to help me drill that

      To make the short answer of "more training and experince" into a much longer answer:
      Speed has has absolutly nothing to do with strength nor stamina (beyond be able to have strenght and stamkna enough to execute the actual motion that is). It is all about how fast your brain can send signals to the muscles and how quickly the muscle can respond upon those signals.
      One part of it is partly due to the speed of the signal (which is quite limited) but also due to the bandwidth of the system (so how many signals can travel simulatiously). The less "noise" in the system the quicker the signals can travle and be acted upon.
      Another part is how many areas of the brain that needs to be involved in order to execute the motoric processes to create the motion. This is where automation training comes in. The more you do a certain set of processes the thicker the connection in the brain gets for that specific set of processes, creating higher bandwidth - hence quicker execution. If then also can bypass the concious decition-making part of the brain then a series of steps is reduced into one inital step the execute a chain reaction. Hence the whole process takes less effort and less time to execute. In short: the more you do a certain movement the quicker and more effortless you can do it.
      Another very important part is muscle tension. Or perhaps I should say the lack of muscle tension that counter the movement you want to do when you want to do it. This includes range of motion. So stretching and relaxation is very very important for speed. Strength training with heavy muscle growth can actually make you slower (counter to what many belive) if it is not followed up with good stretching and relaxsation to maintain/increase range of motion and reduce unwanted muscle tension.
      Another part is due to genes and what type of muscle fibers you have. Some of us are more built for endurance, others for explosiveness. Ones disposition will affect how quickly the muscles respond to a singnal.
      Of course the nervoussystem breaks down a bit with age. The older man in this case most likely have that system still fully functioning even though it might have started to slow down a bit. However the thickness of the pathways he has built up over time (and continue to build up), as he most likely done this movements so many times over the years, would compensate that gradual degredation. Add to that the increase in effeciensy, not only in exactly what muscles to move and what muscles to relax for what period of time, but also the reduction in "noise" in the nervoussystem that comes with constant training. So as long as the older man continue to train, his full range of motion is intact and not hamperd by pain etc, there is no real reason why he shouldn't be faster then the younger man.

    Thank you. This is good for a stationary grab. Can you do a tutorial on a grab with forward pressure(off balance)? A grab with a possibility of a knife in other hand?

      That really is a multi-facet question. What kind of disability? How is he, or she grabbing your shirt? Is it a right hand or left hand grab? These things have to be considered in the inquiry. Once you use a situation, you can trouble shoot the answer.
