@@ChippWalters There’s always been talk of such “dissatisfaction”, right back to the early days of Blender. There are those who complain about Blender’s UI, and those who know how to use it. There have been things that needed fixing -- at one point Blender didn’t even have undo. And one thing that has certainly been bothering me for some time is the lack of non-toggle select-none and select-all keystrokes. But that is finally being fixed in 2.8. And you will notice that right-click to select remains unchanged in 2.8. Because it’s the right thing to do. If your users are more familiar with SketchUp, then why change?

Holy "shirtballs". The zoom to mouse option alone makes a world of difference (and I'm only less than 4 mins into your tut).
In 2.82 I found "Ambient Occlusion" in the "Render" tab, and does not affect the Shading Viewport. Couldn't find a workaround :/
Scale to 3D Origin in 2.82:
"Object" (top left) --> "Set Origin" --> "Origin to 3D Cursor"
Figuring out how to Save Text Editor in the correct folder was not an easy task! I use 2.82 and Mac, was not able to locate the "Config" folder?
It's probably better to just use the default settings. That video was created several versions ago.
Cyclse compute device is none for me ..why?

That's a very old config file and you should not use it with the new Blender. Sorry.
@@ChippWalters i see blessings
Save Startup File in 2.82:
"File" --> "Defaults" --> "Save Startup File"

Even the Blender 2.8 UX guys question the wisdom of right-click to select. It's how virtually all other 3D programs work.
