    This video alone just made fishing so much better! My wife and i have just gotten into inshore fishing in our a new town, and have been getting skunked and beaten down until we watched this! We were just sitting at one spot and wasting whole days and $$ in bait getting nothing. After watching this, I just made a list of every reachable spot by foot, and spent about 20 minutes at each. We both were able to have a great day, and got plenty of catches! Amazing advice!

    Problem is guys. For some of us on the North East Coast especially, our focus species is Striped Bass.
    So we use bigger tackle like 30-40lb braid, 25-50 lb leader etc.
    I'd really like to see some topics pertaining to this.
    Thanks

    10 lb braid for open saltwater fishing will be great. If you fish where there's heavy cover an structure in fresh water you will need 50 to 65 or 70 lb braid. Yes you would lose distance sadly if you can get waders to compensate for lost distance go for it an get quality wader boots.

      Cover lots of water. Minimal one cast per spot 3 max. One cast left hand side of the water, one right side of water then one straight. Vary retrieves an pauses. An example turn reel one second fast pause one second then retrieve one second moderate or slow. No particular speed but the point being mix it up. Occasionally do 1 really fast reel turn for one reel turn pause 1 second do this 2 to 3 times so lure presents itself as a scared creature or baitfish. If it's warm generally start with 3 second pause some instances all the way to 14 seconds. Mix up pause as well. Also can retrieve 2 seconds fast not too too fast so fish miss lure then moderate or slow one second. You don't want to use retrieve variations too long because you could miss fish. To really dial in can also do 1 second fast pause for 3 seconds or 10 seconds what ever then one second slow or moderate. If 2 seconds fast an one second slow or moderate dial it down an do 1 second fast then one second moderate or slow. Then right after crank reel really fast 1 second do this for 2 to 3 times as stated to give a scared creature or baitfish. Try this an good luck.

    Question. Why do you believe a lighter main line 8-10 pounds will catch you more fish? Is this due to sensitivity to a strike?

      It sounded like it can cast farther.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  Před 2 lety

      Both... there is less wind and water drag so you can feel strikes better. Plus, you'll get much better casting performance if using spinning gear as shown in this casting contest: www.saltstrong.com/articles/casting-distance-experiment-10-vs-20-braid/

    I love salt strong they have good stuff sometimes. However i fish both fresh and saltwater, and i have used diawa bg 4000s for every kind of fishing (because it was the first reels i purchased) and have caught alot of fish. Im not going to sell all my reels and buy 2500-3000 because you guys say it causes you to catch more fish. Your guys argument is so subjective. I think the point is going fishing and using what you have, sure in a perfect world buy what they tell you. But this video was alittle dramatic, and for new anglers i think it might be discouraging.
