    Corrections:
    -the rolling cloud shadows ARE in ACMirage. Spotted them down in the southern "palm grove" area of the map and they seem to function the same as valhalla. Could be they are limited to certain areas of the map OR are randomly triggered depending on the game's randomized weather effects.

    One of the best game sequel comparisons I have ever seen. Going into graphics detail to feature details, explaining the macro and micro. Usually, these side-by-side graphic comparisons on CZcams that just run for a few minutes don't make any sense and you can't get a good eye on what exactly is changed. There are also hardly any explanations on the feature differentce.

    When the parkour animations in unity, a ten year old game, are 10x more fluid than this mirage. I’d argue the graphics in unity are a lot better in some ways too. Unity was very flawed and buggy at launch but it was brimming with good ideas and ambition, something AC hasn’t had since. Now AC means nothing because the franchise turned into a generic rpg series with fantasy elements, the actual “assassin” part of assassins creed has essentially been removed, and while mirage brings back some old elements, it does it while feeling like Valhalla which makes it super disappointing.

      what i like about mirage is that the combat is not mostly button spam like valhalla. it´s more about dodge/parry/counter system, and instead you can finish off enemies fast like in real life but they can also finish you off fast it´s a bit more like ghost of tsushima in that sense of course GOT is the goat in swordcombat but i feel mirage did a good job in that sense. mirage combat is many times too repetitive with it´s finish animations there is simply too few of them

      Sure. Except there's clouds in the skybox + volumetric cloud rendering. So there are clouds. Just no cloud shadows this time around.
      Worth noting that the shadows in valhalla are not the result of the direct light being blocked by cloud objects. Its just an effect put in after the fact to simulate it

      @rodoxde2899 Před 7 měsíci +4

      @@Nick930Granted I wasn't around during AC Valhalla times, but I'd imagine that the UK is basically as cloudy and rainy as today 😅. I couldn't exactly tell you how they did the Cloud Shadows, but my best guess is that they used some form of noise texture with an alpha channel, that influences the direct light source. I used to do a lot of Blender, and that's how I usually addressed cloud shadows. The few times I visited friends in Israel I couldn't remember any clouds. If I look up pictures of Bagdad I can't see any clouds, except for some small puffs here and there. My guess is that removing cloud shadows was intentional 😊

This might have been added with the latest patch.

    • @GrandHighGamer
      @GrandHighGamer Před 7 měsíci

      @@Nick930 That's true, but it does mean you lose far less by eliminating the effect. For really subtle or rare effects it's not going to be worth the cost. Gamers like to complain about games not being 'optimised', so keeping 5% of the frametime wasted on an effect that will barely be noticable by comparison wouldn't make sense. Same for eliminating fire propagation now that it's no longer a core part of the gameplay loop. It'd be nice to have, but it would increase development time and require system resources to keep that running. Probably not worth it if it's not something that's really going to occur much.

      @@n1lknarf Not exactly. When Mirage was still in the pre-planning phase, the executives at Ubisoft saw this as an opportunity for the relatively new development team to deliver a smaller AAA title and to see if there is a substantial market for the older Assassins Creed games. It’s more of the fact that it’s a smaller game that uses the same engine but has been tweaked and modified to fit this new game’s needs. Also it’s cheaper and easier to use materials that are already there and modify them than create an entirely new engine for a smaller game. This game is more of a test to see the market for game similar to the older Assassin’s Creed games because if there is, the hope is that Ubisoft will task a smaller studio to make “older” AC games while the bigger studio’s work on the bigger “RPG style” AC games

Huge amounts of content and 150 hours plus gameplay was never Assassins creed, What made Assassins's creed was Mirage based gameplay. I remember running from school to plugging in my trusty PS3 to play revelations and AC2 even after I finished them 2-3 times. The game is meant to be simple and pleasing to look, Mashing one single button and killing 25 plus shows how powerful the assassins were when it came to combat, the series was never repetitive for me and holds a lot of memories for the best moments of gaming, Call me an ac purist but I have played 20 hours plus of mirage since it's release and I will still choose play it over valhalla and odyssey which abandoned the very foundation of Assassins creed.

    After beating Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey twice and Assassin's Creed Valhalla once and spending an insane amount of time with all of the playthroughs combined, it's nice to see an Assassin's Creed game with a more condensed story where I don't have to worry about constantly grinding and upgrading. I have nothing against the RPG trilogy. I loved Origins and Odyssey. However, I thought that Valhalla was a bit too bloated and padded. Sure, it had its moments, but the story dragged on for far too long. To make matters worse, the game didn't even have a proper ending. I'm actually glad that the franchise went through a three year hiatus, even as a huge AC fan. Assassin's Creed Mirage is a return to form for the series for the most part. It's not perfect and it has a few issues, but it's still great regardless. It's nice to see Basim go from being an NPC in Valhalla to the main playable character in Mirage. AC Mirage has a great story. I really like Basim as a character. The game is gorgeous. The music is absolutely stellar. Voice acting is solid. The fact that combat is only utilized as a last resort is a nice change of pace. Stealth is the primary focus, which I greatly appreciate. Smoke bombs, blending in, eavesdropping, and pickpocketing make their welcome return. Assassin's Creed Mirage has the most densely packed city since Unity and I love it. Ubisoft Bordeaux clearly understand what it means to craft a classic Assassin's Creed title and Mirage is proof of their love for the franchise. However, the game is not without its faults. Animations can be janky at times. Enemy behavior can sometimes be awkward. As much as I appreciate the welcomed return of pickpocketing, I absolutely hate the fact that I have to go through a timed mini-game in order to do it successfully. Sure, I can enable it automatically in the settings options, but I shouldn't have to do so. Failing the mini-game will only result in getting chased after by guards, which is very frustrating to say the least. I know that certain people didn't like the Assassin's Focus, but I'm perfectly fine with it. I actually really like it. It can come in rather handy when you need to eliminate a few guards in quick succession. Mirage's world was built for parkour when compared to Valhalla, where parkour was basically non-existent. So far, I've spent around 10 hours playing Assassin's Creed Mirage and I absolutely love it. I'm really excited to see where the franchise goes next. Thanks, Nick! As always, I really appreciate the enjoyable and detailed video! Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!

    Im kind of surprised you did not talk about the fire color in Mirage which is excessively unrealistic... best fire made was in origin in my opinion, I hate how it looks in Mirage and prefered Vahalla 100%. But you are right I am quite picky when it comes to characters and their definition, and Mirage dont fail on it.

    I want an AC taking place in feudal Japan around 1200 AD taking place in Heian-kyō (Kyoto). They can make something nice with the architecture and scenery for sure.

    Valhalla seems better. More variety of things to do and I like the RPG aspect with gear stats that make a difference. Plus getting to sail and the different types of locations were all beautiful. I didn't have a problem with Valhalla's battle game play cause dual welding large swords, with an emphasis on speed stats to make dodging faster, was so effective and cool. Sounds like Mirage went backwards to be more like the original game, brotherhood or like the one in Egypt. Brotherhood was amazing though. So far, my favorites are Valhalla, Black Flag, and Revelations.

      Loved how they remove those tiring and stucky ship battles to raiding places on small boats in Valhalla

    • @Kal93
      @Kal93 Před 4 měsíci

      I liked both the ship battles and the raids. The raids were cool because it was more like survival mode gameplay with no way of healing unless you find the occasional bush of berries. I liked the ship battles because of the immediate strategic responses needed or else you die. I still couldn't beat all four ship bosses in black flag even with my stats maxed out 😂 but I totally get what you mean about the tediousness of the common battles tho because it did get old sometimes.
      I'm still waiting for the AC game set in feudal era Japan, that'd be so cool!

    When Valhalla first dropped, I put some time into then stopped playing for a year. Came back and started over and so glad I did. Got over 400hrs into it and still log in each day just to do bounties. Contrary to popular belief, I enjoyed its combat. I’m a huge greatsword fan. And Valhalla scratched that itch for me

    Its strange that mirage don't have ray tracing even for the shadows, the shadows and lights effects of this game in some areas really would benefit

    • @Xiefux
      @Xiefux Před 7 měsíci

      when it comes to shadows ray tracing has only a very small benefit, they already do them so well
