      Cutting the old Almendricos to Guadix line line the first place was monumentally stupid and short-sighted. However, RENFE (and later, ADIF) never sold off the alignment, and kept it for telecoms purposes. This left a cheap and simple solution for re-opening the line, which naturally was never taken up in favour of blowing billions on new alignments and tunnels for a high speed line to serve the least populated and most arid, mountainous parts of southern Spain.
      I still to this day think they should have just re-instated the old route as mostly single track, mixed gauge and electrified, with some improvements to ease gradients and curves where viable.
      There's not enough people interested in travelling on AVE to Almeria to make it worthwhile to build a completely new alignment - but a mixed gauge carrying freight, regional traffic and some extended high-speed services from Madrid-Alicante and Barcelona-Alicante.
      The whole LAV situation Almeria/Murcia/Alicante has been a complete catastrof*ck, while the real pressures on the network like the craptastic state of the Alicante-Murcia-Lorca cercanias and total isolation of Cartagena has been ignored or even exacerbated by the LAV project. When the "plan" is gauge-changing commuter services it's time to take the whole project out the back, and ceremonially burn it and scatter the ashes of the top of the nearest giant mountain.
      The sheer scale of the stupidity and the fact it has been allowed to go so far and consume so many resources just beggars belief. HS2 in the UK reminds me of it, but we expect that sort of thing to happen in Britain - the fact it happened in Spain, a country with a huge amount of experience of high-speed rail and big infrastructure projects is much more worrying.

    I used to take this train long ago, when it was cheaper and you didn't have to take the bus to take the train which is incredibly stupid and take much time, It is cheaper going by car instead of taking that, I only recommend the route for tourism because of the beautiful landscape, but people from here stopped taking this train long ago, and you saw in the emptiness of the train, so you can change the "well done renfe" message for another, because they destroyed the local railway in granada and almería due to horrible decissions from people who live in madrid...
    Anyway, hope you enjoyed the route aswell as I enjoyed your video. it brought me memories from good times that never will come back...

      Yeah, I can't disagree on any paticular point there, it's a sorry state. That said, the old-school Talgo ride from Charmatín to Almería is still one of the most beautiful, relaxing and comfortable train journeys I've ever had, and they even had Panrico donuts in the cafeteria car - and Panrico donuts make *everything* good 👍

    Hi! I have a question, i’m going to book train ticket from cordoba to seville. I just want to know why it’s so cheap with Media Distancia? And the other train like AVE or Avant can be tripple the price. Do you know the reason? Thanks in advance and sorry for bad english :)

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  Před 2 lety

      If you book in advance, the AVE or Avant services can actually be cheaper with promo fares. Media distancia is slower, but always the same price no Matter when you book

    • @lmlmd2714
      @lmlmd2714 Před 2 lety

      MD fares are cheaper as they are slower, but also the MD fares are fixed whereas AVE and Avant vary depending on demand and how far in advance you book. You can grab a bargain - I booked Girona-Barcelona recently and there were AVE "Avlo" tickets available (the "budget" brand for AVE) for €7,00.

    • @elevatorsfromroblox8885
      @elevatorsfromroblox8885 Před rokem

      Yes, the Media Distancia is very slow, from Almeria to Granada by Media Distancia trains is 2h 25, by car is 1h 45
      and Córdoba Seville is 1h 40 approximate because this train got very stops, but is cheap
