  • ►A BMW oil filter housing leak is one of the most asked about DIYs that we get when it comes to BMW. Going all the way back to the BMW E36 and E46, a leaky engine oil filter housing has been widespread and continues to be on cars like the BMW F30 with the N20 and N26 engines.
    Over time, the oil filter housing gasket on these BMW engines dries up, becomes brittle, and shrinks just enough to allow oil to leak through. To access this gasket, it's a fairly involved job that requires the intake manifold to be removed. Because of that, this DIY also covers how to replace the BMW N20 and N26 intake manifold gasket.
    Follow along as Gareth Foley, FCP Euro's BMW Catalog Manager takes us through the entire step-by-step process of removing this BMW F30's intake manifold and oil filter housing to replace the gaskets on each.
    Read this DIY on our blog: blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-repla...

    Another helpful video. Thanks! Question- Would a retrofit of a stud and a nut in place of that one bolt that is blocked by the intake manifold work for future repairs, or would that still be too long and require the manifold to be removed? If it would work, could possibly consider for an updated kit from you guys. 😉

    Less is more when you don't have to pull the entire intake manifold off just removing the bolts and backing it off a way for clearance to get to your room to get to the rear bolt on the oil cooler common only things that I would suggest a recommend is a sweatband for the guy that says fcpeuro on the front of it, and a headlamp LED unit he can put on his forehead below his cab or to one side of the camera, I'll have to look up the procedure for our other car which is a 528i E60 6-cylinder 3L and see what is involved with replacing those gaskets as well

    Very patient comprehensive tutorial. I must say BMW has gone totally sideways with their engineering. Requiring this much disassembly for a common problem that should never have happened makes me seriously consider wanting another. Professional DIY make it doable. I am looking into this for another person who owns this model and has this problem at 32K miles... Unreal

    What is the root cause of this failure? I have had to replace this twice, my F30 has 134K miles on it. Very disappointing design and expensive repair. BMW should provide a free reimbursement or recall and fix the bad design.

      Do you honestly think BMW gives a crap about the design? That's why they design it this way, so you come to the dealership more often!!

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  Před 3 lety

      the parts are linked below the video, ans cost can be found on the site. As far as labor, you'll want to get quotes from your local shops as labor rates vary from region to region and shop to shop.

    apparently some F10 528i N20 have different manifold (and alternator mounting hardware) as this one can take the back bold without removing the intake manifold ! czcams.com/video/HmY1KJjAAIo/video.html
    Mine isn't like that (2014), but the engine block does have a bolt hole underneath the back one 2cm away that would be SOOO much easier to access had they use to attach the oil hoising instead of that stupid bolt blocked the manifold. Aggrr, BMW !!!
