I have to admit that this is a really touching moment. Scott fulfilled his father's desires to have sharks with laser beams attached to their heads as well as being the evil son that he had always wanted. Scott also *finally* got the approval from his father and seemed to be legitimately happy about him returning his love. I honestly almost got teary eyed from it.

Scott's resemblance to Ron Howard is deliberate. Mike Myers had a huge feud with Howard over Sprockets and used Seth Green's character to ridicule Howard.
I love how this movie isn't primarily just about stereotypical British spy trying to get evil guy who's trying to destroy world but about father-son and family feud relationship.
In the first film Dr Evil wanted to bond with Scott but he refused on grounds that he had no right to do so as he had been absent all his life. In the second film Scott changed his mind and wanted to bond with his father but Dr Evil felt Scott was not evil enough to make him proud seeing mini me as a more appropriate person to spend time with. And now in this film they do bond as Father and Son but Dr. Evil's decision to give up his evil causes this all to come crashing down. One could say Scott blaming Austin Powers for the "loss" of his father was the final catalyst for him to reach his full evil potential.
I love how Goldmember is just commentating on everything.
