A few things a little mixed up.
1) The Army no longer uses SSN on your DOG TAGS instead it is DODID and you can no longer have Jedi on them as well
2) You do not have to be FROM the US to join the Army, I went to Basic Combat Training with Russians, Mexicans, Jamaicans, and others trying to get their US citizenship
3) You can have more than 2 dependents when joining the Army as a lot of people who join in their late 20s early 30s and have full families
You still can only have 2 dependents* You can have a full family but only 2 listed as dependents. Or you can get a waiver (Fairly easily) for more dependents.
We old-school vets have SS on our tags. What was dropped was the service number. Mine was B892269.

Actually members of the Army did use commercial carriers returning from Vietnam Via the Philippines and Hawaii wen the US pulled out of Vietnam. Due to the high numbers of Service members coming back there were not enough Military transports for them. So there would be Busses from Fort Ord in Monetary at SFO to trans port them to the base where many would then receive their ETS. (Air force would end up at Travis, and Navy and Marines in San Diego) Please do a better job of doing your home work. Maybe ask some Vets?

As a soldier in the US Army I can confirm that on our dog tags it doesn’t have our SSN anymore. It was replaced with our DOD ID number
I thought it was weird that they put my SSN on my tags in basic but when they broke off and got lost I was told to get my dod number on my new ones I had to get myself.

Correction: people DID spit on soldiers returning from Vietnam. There’s countless stories of soldiers talking about it and yes soldiers can and do come back through commercial airports sometimes it’s not always military aircraft into military airfields furthermore it wasn’t just then they initially came home that these instances happened. If it was found out that you were in the army regardless if you had even been to Vietnam you were disrespected by close minded hippies
Yes the protestors were cursing us, calling us foul names, and SPITTING. But it was not confined to the army. In those days we had to travel in uniform and all military personnel had to put up with the disrespect. I suspect the story is being changed because some of those same protestors are in positions of power and they don't want the younger voters to be aware of how they acted. But we know the truth and can make it known while we are still alive. After we are gone I suspect that changed story will be what the younger generations will learn. Lt USN (ret)

Dog tags no longer contain a service member's SSN. It has been replaced with their DoD ID number.

That Coca Cola thing was very interesting. There’s literally a Coca Cola machine everywhere on every Army instillation.
They also created a company called Fanta so they could sell soda to the Germans during the war.
My grandfather, a Naval deck gun hand who served on the USS blue in some of the early years of 'Nam, when he and his group departed a bus in California they were spat on, I saw how it effected him strongly when he spoke, I'll take his word over yours
I called that lie out. As mentioned we were banned from wearing our military uniforms off base.

My grandpa, an army vet from Vietnam, told me that protestors didn’t spit on him, But insulted him and the other troops. He got drafted without wanting to go to war at all. He’s said that his only goal in Vietnam was to get back home😞

If he’s still here give him a hug and love he deserves it, if not go pay respects to his grave, my grandfather was a marine who served in Korea then was drafted for Vietnam he was jumped a lot in New Jersey to the point he moved to Florida when my dad was young, everyday I pay respects to his urn that I have in my living room, took me till after he passed how much he suffered from it and I wish I could’ve told him how much I loved him while he was still here, glad your grandpa got home and hope you and your family are well ðŸ™

Not all Vietnam soldiers returned to military airfields. I came back to a civilian airfield and yes there were protesters there and tried to spit on me and throw bottles and things at us. The statement in this video is incorrect!
yea vietnam vets deff got spat on and insulted. idk how this dude is so definite that its "fake news" or that it didnt happen. a lot of guys came home on civilian air lines wearing their uniforms. some guys got insulted so bad they threw their uniforms in the trash at the airports so people didnt know they were military coming back from vietnam

There's actually a few more requirements than what you listed. Including having almost no medical issues what so ever, both physical and mental. That includes depression, especially if you were medicated for it. You also can never have been arrested. There are ways to get approved if you have been, but only for a few specific crimes. Most crimes however, immediately disqualify you from ever entering the military.

The reason the Turtle failed was an twist of irony. Unknown to the Continental Army, the British started protecting their ships from ship worms by covering their lower hulls (where the explosives would be attached to the ships) with metal. So the British, while protecting their ships from ship worms, also unwittingly also protected them from submarine attacks, something that they didn't even know existed!
I returned from Vietnam,1969, on a military medical flight, I was severely wounded, over 37 major wounds, both legs broken, left arm broken, jaw broken, left 4 ribs broken, etc. We landed at San fransico at midnight, were all stretcher cases, about 60 in our flight, loaded onto Air Force white ambulance busses. Left by a back gate because of mob at other gates, as we left some protesters threw fire crackers under our bus ambulances, most of us guys were straight from the battle fields, had been in combat just hours before, some panicked because they couldn't find there weapons in there morphine fog. The male nurse with us said protesters were part of the Jane Fonda protesters. So these Peace demonstrators were so full of love and compassion. Nope, only for the VC or Marxists.

School is meant to teach you the basics of everything, so when you decide on your career you can delve more into that subject.

Someone else, not mentioned, also helped us during the Revolutionary War. An Aristocrat from Poland named Casmir Pulaski raised/recruited a bunch of men, I think from the Carolinas. He commanded these men and paid out of his own pocket for uniforms for them. He was killed during the fighting. There are many towns named Pulaski in the eastern US in his honor. I served on the USS Casmir Pulaski (SSBN 633) for 39 months in 77 - 80.

I've been in the Army for almost 16 years. I deployed 5 times but never did anything special. I wish I had at least tried to go SF or Ranger School. But I did get my spurs.

I was in the Army and I took the ASVAB ... i don't remember any questions about moons or intestines ... but it was years ago.
I think you need to check your facts about the soldiers returning from Vietnam. First, many soldiers were flown home on chartered civilian aircraft and would and did travel thru civilian airports and were harassed and yes, spat on. I know - my father was one of them in a group that experienced this though he himself was not.
Second, service members were required to travel in uniform then, so when they traveled home on leave after return they were subject to abuse as well. Please stop trying to change the history that makes you uncomfortable. The facts are the war was very unpopular and service members were harassed, cursed at, spat on and even assaulted when they returned from Vietnam.

you left out literally 100s of disqualifiers for getting in the army ranging from mental health to having a Domestic violence or drug charge.
I'm going to have to disagree with the stories of soldiers being spat on being fake news. I don't know about the spitting but I knew soldiers who came home and were called baby killers in the airport. Yes I said airport. The military will use whatever transportation available that best suits their needs and part of operating an airline in the U.S. has always meant that the military can use you as a charter service. They can put people on regular flights or charter flights just for the military when it suits their needs. In times of national emergency the military can actually tell civilian airlines that they now work for the military and that's that but it hasn't happened since WW-II. A lot of people went to Vietnam on air force C-141's and other transports but a lot of guys went to and from theater on TWA 707's flying into civilian airports.
Neat tidbit: tank operators will cover their tanks with C4 to help lessen the effects of explosives against RPGs

@@hideousruin a form of reactive armor done at base. My dad's battalion done it because they were tired of grenades being thrown at their tanks (although my dad stayed away from the tanks in the first place)
Reactive armor is more than placing c4 on your tank. It is an armor plate with directional explosive that hits a projectile that pierces the plate with a reactive explosion. Would not stop a grenade from hitting the vehicle and was mostly used against APRPG rounds or armor piercing RPG’s.

Mexico is a part of America. You will also see french canadians and portuguese brazilians enlisting in the us military. But conscripts can not become commission or warrant officers.

You either have to have your green card so have become an American citizen or be a Citizens of Palau, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands, or Canadian-born Native Americans/First Nations other than that there's The Korean Augmentation To the United States Army which is Koreans who only operate in Korea and last they take a few locals during conflict to act as guides, translators, etc who can join to get the protection and benefits of being part of the Army rather than working as a civilisation contractor.
No Mexicans unless they have become natralised Americans.
Unless for some reason the US army doesn't bother following its own recruitment rules and policies.

Just saw the comment and thought it was a bit odd as normally the recruit has to be naturalised first so looked up the rules and laws to find out. Was it that they'd naturalised first, did they go to America to join, get their green card and then join or do their green card exam while signed up or neither they stayed foreigners, which seems a bit odd as what happens if you fight a nation where the person is still a part of?
The minimum requirement to enlist in the Army is to be a permanent resident (PR) also known as greencard holder. But of course as a PR, u can't be an officer, there are certain units u can't be part of like the Army Special Operations Command which requires personnel to be citizens. I'm not sure about other units like intelligence, security and cyber, whether do they require citizenship, but given their sensitive nature of their tasks, personnel are required to obtain certain security clearance, so I'll assume citizenship is required, but I could be wrong for this.
I know for a fact from a Vietnam Vet that they did in fact fly into San Francisco airport upon returning from the war.

This is in regard to Vietnam veterans being spat on by antiwar activist. My dad was a Vietnam Vet and he told me all the horrors of coming home to that and landing in San Francisco airport. Let me explain to you, how deployments work. The Government will charter a plane and the whole plane is full of deploying soldiers. We do or did not particularly have to have a military plane to deploy. My pops suffered for the rest of his days from the horrors of that war and what happened when he came back. He didn’t tell me of what all had happened over there in Vietnam, nor would I ask. It doesn’t take much to notice someone suffering from true ptsd. Always on alert for the least little thing. But that sad experience he certainly told me about and my dad is the most honest person I’ve ever known.

It did inspire the 1979 movie 1941 where a Japanese sub "attacked" LA The Ferris Wheel rolling into the ocean was crazy - the lights were still on as it rolled down the pier into the Pacific ocean after the sub hit the center of it.

#51 the reason that the last of siblings can be stationed together again is because of the Sullivan brothers (fact check that number but I’m pretty sure it was 8). They were all on the same ship during (I believe WWII), and all of them died. From that moment on, the last of siblings cannot be stationed together.
5 Sullivan brothers died when the destroyer USS Juneau went down during WWII.

For number 3, they got that wrong. Definitely not a myth. Ive been told personal stories from Vietnam veterans who did in fact get spit on, in uniform, after their return to the US. May not have been on base, but definitely happened.
Yep, it definitely happened. I didn't go to Viet Nam but had to run the protestor cursing, spitting, name calling gauntlet in LAX. The war in Viet Nam may have stirred them up but they expanded their hate to anyone in the military, not matter what service it was or where they served.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that the soldiers in 1956 that selected " The Army Goes Rolling Along" as The Army Song may not have been experts in music, or morale.

Example was General MacArthur. He was awarded the Medal of Honor, but he didn't personally perform any courageous, self-sacrifice, gallant act. But of course, MacArthur was still a good man.

I'm afraid you r wrong on the troops not being abused when the came home. My Father was a combat medic, from Albuquerque NM when he landed at Albq/Kirtland Air Force base. I remember my mom crying and saying why r they treating my husband like that. It was a joyous but sad day. So yeah it did happen. Ik, was there, saw it with my own two eyes.

Bs. I returned from South Korea (not Vietnam) in Sept, 1968 and we landed in SF. There was a crowd of hippies chanting anti military slogans and the guy ahead of me was spat upon. When I got to him I knew what to expect. Sure enough he prepared to spit but I decked the little weasel as he spit so I don"t think he got me.

The landmine thing makes perfect sense. I’ve always wondered how soldiers avoided killing themselves. When I game if I don’t make it blatantly obvious where I put my land mines I am bound to forget where I even placed them and step on them.

This guy is totally wrong about the soldiers not being spit on from Vietnam. That was a fact. I've actually been told from Vietnam veterans about it happening to them personally. The propaganda is that it didn't happen. Military members flying often do land land in civilian airports. Especially at that time. And I myself, as a prior military, have flown into LAX and been spit on as well, in more recent years. Not to mention there is actually footage of it happening. When my dad fought in the Pacific Theatre, his unit collected a large amount of gear and traded it to a nearby Australian unit- in exchange my dad’s group received A FIFTY FIVE GALLON DRUM OF COCA-COLA SYRUP! They mixed it with water in their canteens. It wasn’t fizzy, but it was a taste of home!

Fun fact. You can see #35 and many other weird prototype vehicles including a hovercar from the 1950s at the US Army Transportation museum in Ft Eustis VA. Some really interesting things there including vehicles damaged in every major war.
In the James River (I think that is the name of the river) behind Fort Eustis part of the Navy's mothballed fleet is anchored.

I live about 30 minutes from Tonawanda, N.Y. As a matter of fact, I have family in North Tonawanda, and I lived there for awhile myself. I've heard the story of the Niland brothers before, but I never knew they had lived so close by.. That's crazy to think about.

The way I heard it, the business about the Colonials fighting using guerrilla tactics while the British fought “European-style†in straight lines is bunk. Colonials sometimes fought using the latter tactic and the Brits were knowledgeable in guerrilla style due to experience gained in the French-and-Indian Wars.
