Quick tip for mining! This worked in the original game and you can make maaaad money during the winter. Empty out your bags as much as you can, have a stack of food and enter the mines. Before you till or hammar anything save the game. Till everything until you find the staircase down, remember where it was then reload the game. Simply till where you remember the staircase and head down. It can be a bit tedious but to upgrade all your tools you really only need to get down to the 10th floor of the spring mines. So save first, find stairs, load game go down save game till load.

Yes this is how it should be done for max profit.
Save two slots for the floor before and one for the next floor. There are some times that there aren't any stairs or for example Kappa/Goddess jewel floors. So it's better to be prepared.
I find that Curry Udon is the cheapest food to bring in the in the mines as the ingredients are cheap and it gives about 40 (correct me if I'm wrong) stamina. As much as you can as well get black grass from the floors to replenish fatigue and some stamina.
I have poor spacial memory and when I played HM on DS I used to do this, but I put a piece of paper over the screen to mark all the stuff 😅 gotta work around your handicaps to get that bag 💰
@@ItsAzail yesss good advice, people gotta take advantage of those saves. I always save a bunch of points in case I do a regret 😅 better than starting over!
I used to take the basket down with me! It worked wonders!
In your first year of spring dont forget to save 10 cucumbers for the kappa. He'll reward you with a blue power berry which will cut your fatigue in half.
Also if you get vans favorite in the mail, don't bother giving it to van himself when you start out. Sell it to Huan when you get enough friendship points for an easy 50,000 gold- dont worry you'll be getting it back in the mail randomly
In summer during the fireworks festival, empty your backpack(preferably the largest you can manage to get) and bring your fishing pole. You can fish as long as possible without using up energy and no time passes allowing you to get a small fortune out of the fish.
Gifting to the Harvest Goddess 100 days unlocks an ELEVATOR in the mines. They don’t have to be consecutive days. Just 100 total. The elevator will take you down in increments of 50 floors. (ie: 50, 100, 150, 200, 225) But you can only access floors that you’ve *already* been to via the stairs.
So if the lowest level you’ve been to is 132 floors, then the elevator level options will be 50 or 100. Once you’ve reached the 150th floor, then it’ll be 50, 100, 150 (and so on).
Both mines only have 225 floors in this game. IIRC, in the original GBA version, the mines had 255 floors. So they spared us 30 floors this time.
I got this game for Christmas and I still find it funny how when you throw a flower into the waterfall nobody seems to mind or even notice.
Like, I know they can't see the Harvest Goddess but it must look like I just threw something into the river to them.

If you unlock the pets early, Early summer, then you have the option of getting a pet Penguin.
I mean come on, A PENGUIN! He even walks all wobbly like one too!
Now I need a pet Penguin ASAP

@@flytothemoon50 They're only sold in summer. It's a bit hard to get them after year one because Van will only sell you another pet once the previous one is 8 hearts or more.
I still got the potion who say to give to Van, did it work?
@@flytothemoon50 Nah that's a raffle item. You sell it to Huang for 57K. If you give it to Van he'll offer to sell you the item (ALL BGM) which is all the records in-game... for one million. Pretty useless so most just sell it to Huang for a nice finance boost early in the game.
A tip for getting the fishing rod is you must have an empty tool slot or the interaction doesn’t happen. Took me days to figure it out 😆

Ah so that’s why i haven’t got it, i recently bought the backpack for more slots and it took me until summer but i guess now Zack can give me his fishing rod?
@@smiths4life there are two chests you can store tools in as well(the same chest but two access points, one inside and one outside the door of your house), could have just emptied a slot and gone to Zacks, that would work as well.
I just got the game today in the mail and I love it so much it’s so cute and this guide helped me so much cuz I didn’t really know what to do at first since I’m new to the harvest moon series.
Save before the mine to save stamina, then save each floor to reach higher floor. This can help you get gold tool in early game.

Been playing since release. Almost done Spring, got a chicken and a kitchen and am saving for a fridge. Also giving Anna grapes to unlock cooking classes, and my tools are all at level 2.
Oh is that how you unlock cooking?
@@rachelgonzalez2488 I think so. I read a thing saying if you got in good with her she would teach cooking. So I'm trying that out now.
I could buy my fridge after my last play session but I want money for seeds first.

@@rachelgonzalez2488 your first house upgrade gets you a kitchen and you start with a couple recipes plus what you learn from the tv.
dont forget to watch entertainment on TV on tuesday for the recipes . you can get several recipies too from NPC if you giving them a gift and be friend with them. Some even can teach you up to 10 recipes , so dont forget to be friend with them !!

Would be fun to go back to this game after all this time. Really was my gold standard for these kind of games for the longest time. But I'm afraid that Stardew Valley has altogether spoiled me. Have a feeling that I'd come back to Mineral Town and feel disappointed. Really don't want to hurt my nostalgia.
Stardew valley has access to a lot of QoL mods. This game is basically vanilla and you will feel kinda grindy and QoL is still a bit outdated imo
@@lacrossehilda That is a plus for Stardew Valley but I actually don't use any mods lol. I felt like Stardew was a step up in QoL over older Harvest Moon titles imo
@@stealthyshiroean also SDV can do multiplayer. While this cant sadly. SDV has constant updates too. Idk if you will like SoSFMT after playing SDV lol. As the depth of the game, i think SDV has much more content/easter eggs/hidden mechanisms. I don't really like the chibi arts at all lol.
The main point of the game is nostalgia after all, so don't expect much :D
@@lacrossehilda Multiplayer definitely is a big selling point for Stardew Valley! Such a chill game to play with friends.
And yeah, I figured it would just be nostalgia. I think I'd rather just play the Mineral Town on the GBA over this the more if I wanted the nostalgia trip. Definitely don't care for the chibi art either.
Updates and especially end game content really gives SDV reasons to keep playing. Looking forward to whenever the 1.5 update drops!

I never played games like this one. After animal crossing nh, i want something new. But i'm afraid it's not relaxing at all with all the planning on when to plant and harvest and sell and talk to ppl... So prob farming games are not for me, but this one looks soooo adorable. Maybe someday when it's a bit cheaper...

I have the game and i'm romancing Cliff so I'm curious I know you get the cooking utensils from the general store and the big bed and fridge from Gotts but where do you get the clock is the record player necessary for upgrading the house can you marry and still collect the other items or do you need all of it before getting married cause I have the first upgrade of my house with kitchen and some of the cooking utensils now I'm working on the 2nd upgrade of the house so can you upgrade the house first to 2nd upgrade and get the other items I'm close to red heart on cliff but not ready for him moving cause I'm still missing a lot of items so how can i earn money faster
Why can't I plant crops in the same place I had cucumbers, when spring was over and summer began?
If I remember correctly ( I haven't played in forever) there's a crop rotation part of this game so you'll have to I think fertilize the soil? There should be something that explains it in the handbook that I believe you can find in your house!

It’s your game and you should play at whatever pace your comfortable with! There’s nothing wrong with that!
I lost my fish rod but don't know how but I don't want to start game from scratch.
Also is in game time what shows on saves I can't believe I've played this for over 19 hours in real time ?
...and yes I tried going bk to one of my earlier saves but still can't find fishing rod. I tried buying new rod from blacksmith but I can't ..actuallybi can't do much which is annoying cause even though it said I could upgrade watering can you need minerals to do it.
At the moment all I can do it collect weeds etc and brush my horse.
If I didn't get far enough to have a horse I'd just start over cause I've NO IDEA how to get my fishing rod bk and it's kinda spoilt fun of playing as fishing is very important and I dint see why I might have accidentally sold it ..tools shouldn't be able to be sold as they are vital to the game bur maybe I did...if anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it

You can give it to the sprites that are behind/on the side of the church. Give it to the same color as the Sprite to raise their affection. Once they are at 3 musical notes they will help you on the farm. Or you can sell the grass in your shipping bin!

I believe when I started a new game they let me pick one of two different faces/gender and then I think skin color? And the outfits are from the wardrobe in your house!

my number 1 tip is go with mod pc .. time slow 2x and fast move by 1.5 speed

Whatever button/key you use to normally use your tools is the button to hold down!
@@FoodThenGames its actually right mouse click but doesnt seem like it 'charge'. and i was wondering if it has anything to do with levelling up tools? may i know what is the different between upgrading tools with those stones and lvl2 or lvl3 tools?

I heard there is a special berry that reduces fatigue loss during bad weather. You will need daily cucumbers and mountain lake.
There's also one in your land that you find randomly I believe by towing the ground. Also, there's one in the mines.
Unpopular opinion ... I prefer the old version.
Nothing wrong with that! I never played the original so it’s been fun to play but I can totally see preferring the original!
@@FoodThenGames There doesn't seem to be much incentive to fork out £40 with improved graphic's, slightly better inventory, costume's, and two new character's.
On the other hand, It's one of my fave farming simulator's , other than star dew valley.
If you train the sprites up early from day 2, you can easily make 1 million first year.

No, unfortunately there is no combat. But dont let that dissuade you from playing! It's still a very fun game!

Was on the fence about buying, but if you love it, I’m sure to love it. I used to LOVE harvest moon, but the last few didn’t hit like the old ones like WL. It’s downloading now, and I’m super excited.

I believe there's a story ending but that you can keep playing after -- similar to other farming sims!

Just dump all unwanted items into the shipping bin. Zack will buy it no matter what.
When you're on your farm, use the buttons to control those items at the bottom right of the screen (I think it's the arrow keys). Once you are holding the item you want, drop it on an empty area. This only works for items like branches and rocks, not food.
Pro Friends of Mineral Town strategy: Save enough money to buy the basket in month 1. Then make as much gold as you can before the horse races start. On the day of the spring horse races save and see who wins the first race then load the game and bet on the winner. Use your winnings to get broaches and fill your basket with them since you can take it to the races with you. Once you're done you'll have made about 50,000 gold.

I think the basket was in the old version of the game; SOS FOMT has stackable items in the rucksack. I think you can still pull off that strategy by buying the Large Rucksack upgrade and befriending Huang to the point where you can sell items to him.

Hank Hill what’s the best way to get to the lower lvls ? I got the mine elevator but haven’t reached floor 50 yet. Just stock up on food? And stamina boosters?
@@Cayla0012 well getting as many power berries as possible is a no brainer. I don't know if they changed this but in the GBA version black grass could be found by tilling the mine flores and since the stairs are pre-determined save when you start a floor, hunt for the stairs and black grass and load your save and dig up only those squares. Rince repeat. I managed to find all the cursed tools doing this. And look up guides on floors because certian number floors have a set rare item you can get from the stones. With this stratagy you don't even need to worry about bringing food.
Power beries can be found by
1) tilling your field
2) making an offering to the harvest godess for 10 days in a row
3) by winning enough bets in the horse race festival
4) by racing in the horse race festival and winning 1st place
5) getting first place in the dog frizby festival
6) by examing the back of the lake mine only accessable Durring winter
The last 4 i'm hazy on the details of so they may not be accurate.
7) mary any vilager and after a certian number of days or months they give you one
8) buy from the tv shoping network after buying all other items
9) buy from won
10) win the harvest godess number game that airs at the start of the year.

IMO I feel like the game is boring. . Stamina goes by way to quickly & time flys by wayyyy to fast it's like you can't really do much by the time you're done with the farm it's already 2 or 3(yes I know you can recruit the lil nature sprites) but still . it's such a disappointment the character design doesn't bother me but the 2D models look like they are straight up kids and not adults , dialogue is very boring as well not much to do overall.I thought I would like the game because how cute it looks but just like stardew valley very disappointed. I feel like Rune Factory 4 is such a better game , much more to do , time goes in a timely manner , stamina doesn't drained too fast and the 2D characters look 100% better & more mature . So if you're deciding what game to go for I would get RF4 over stardew valley & SOS (FOMT) :)
I think this game was intended to play for a vERY long time, since you can't get instant everything unless you're cheating, even the most basic like recipes you have to unlock it by playing, not by experiment. Also it's really a pain in the arse to get mythic tools and goddess/kappa jewel. That's why it's pretty normal for the stamina to drain fast at the beginning, you have to work your way to be able to last longer, but once you maxed out everything it gets really easy (obviously). Even in RF series too, i believe at the beginning you have to level up by grinding monsters to get more mp and hp so that, well, you can last longer (at farm or at battle). I do agree with you though about the graphic, it's too chibi for my taste lol. But comparing RF and sos is not really fair since RF have that battle thingy, ofc you have way more to do

Unfortunately, they can't because of copyright issues with Natsume which kept the Harvest Moon name. This was the only way Marvelous/XSeed could do this remake
