  • In this DIY my coworker asked for some help to change the spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel filter, and do an oil change on his 2004 Porsche 911 Turbo (996). This maintenance procedure can also be applied to 997 models.

Good job on the video, I haven't changed my plugs and coils yet but I am looking forward to it. Some say it's a pain, I think it's an honor, I'm gonna enjoy it lol it's all in the perspective :)

I Winced when I saw them cranking on the main oil drain plug, you need to support that with another wrench on top so you don't crack you oil tank!

I am going to make a suggestion. On the boost hoses, you should consider replacing the clamps-the wire looking ones. I cannot imagine they cost that much but when I did the spark plug change on mine, one of the hoses came off on the test drive. Same thing happened on a friend's 996TT. On that one we felt that the clamps were on solid before buttoning it up and it happened anyway. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing your video.

I winced watching you tighten down that one spark plug. Looked to me like way too much torque on it - but no way you'd know because you didn't use a torque wrench.

Agreed. Very poor technique. Could easily have stripped a thread. Most mechanics just go by feel and stay on the side of caution me included. You just don't need that much torque on an alloy head, the steel thread and seat of the plug will seal very easily. Best to put a bit of copper grease on the thread as well makes it easy to turn much smoother. No grease on the seat of the plug or the mating surfaces. Often the manufacturers torque settings are stupidly high so I ignore, there are sometimes different torque figures out there to confuse matters. Any mechanic will just know when it's tight you can feel it start to bite, don't go silly! It's just a normal car, alloy head, regular plug, be sensible.

@@mark4lev I totally agree, I was wondering why he was doing that, thought maybe it was me over analyzing again.
