Speaking of private schools, let's talk about private BOARDING schools, like what's up with that? I'm Asian, and I can't imagine my parents (or even ME as a parent) willingly making their child leave home to live with other kids with only some strangers as adult supervisions, like wtf? Unless you're like Harry Potter who wants to escape your Dursley relatives and your cupboard under the stairs, I guess?? How does it feel to be emotionally neglected and not raised by your parents? I always thought it seeemed a little too much like child abandonment in rich people language.

I’m Asian and I went to an expensive private boarding school. And yeah the number of day to day arguments and even physical fights happens could be overwhelming but for me I had a real nice friend group so even if the fights happened I wasn’t that fazed, we talked bout the tea of the week and just moved on. It was a nice experience still I found my closest friends there with whom I’m still in touch with and we had our share of fun. So it’s not fairly bad. Also sending your kid for boarding school isn’t always bad, it matured me up and even learned to handle situations efficiently observing people. Boarding school smartened me up a LOT.

I don’t know which asian country you are from. But here (an asian country), boarding school is a dream of many kids or perhaps the parents 😂. You have to be either very smart or rich to be accepted to boarding school. Graduated from boarding schools also open up more opportunities for you to receive scholarships or be accepted at top universities. So here in my country, boarding schools have that impression in society, a place where smart kids would go.

I'm Asian (sort of) and went to the elite boarding private school, where being rich alone won't make you be able to attend it. Selection phase alone is 1 year long from grades, tests, to interview. I went there because I wanted to, not my parents. I felt kinda lonely at home because both of my parents are working and most of the time only my mum whom I could meet in the evening since my father was working somewhere else and could only come home in the weekend. I met my nannies and tutors more often than them in normal days. So why not going to boarding school as I thought back then. it's a good experience.

Ive been to both public and private schools, and I had a great experience in public school, can't say the same for private.
In private schools they make it seem like they're against bullying, but they don't do anything unless it's like physical bullying.
I was scared to tell my teachers that I was being bullied by a group of guys because I thought they would call my parents and tell them about it. (I wasn't really that close to either of my parents so I didn't wanna tell them abt it)
Finally when the bullying got too much, I decided to tell the teachers about it. Hoping they would do something.
I told two of my teachers who were always like "We will not tolerate bullying" & "bullying is bad" Etc. Etc.
They both had the exact same response.
One told me "the best thing u can do in this situation is ignore it, if u react they'll only do it more"
(Ps. I never reacted to the bullying, I alwys ignored it and pretended like it wasn't happening)
    The other teacher told me
"boys mature later than girls, just ignore them."
I HAd been ignoring them for 3 years thinking i was just getting teased a bit and they were just making jokes.
But when something big happened and all my friends left me because of how they were treated when were friends with me, I realized I was actually getting bullied and decided to tell the teachers.
Just goes to show that in some private schools they really don't care that much about bullying as well.

I come from a bloodline of people that went to private schools and were “elites” back then (i saw my great grandpas old school and it looked like a palace from the outside, pillars, ornate exterior and tall windows)
I grew up being in a private school (and catholic, even worse) because theres lots of rich kids here and everyday i feel like trying to look “elite” too to be popular (now i dont) and teachers here are shady and te-rri-fying, lots of them think fear = respect and there are only a few nice teachers i know
I feel like going to a normal public school, maybe even an american public school because ive had american friends that talked about their public schools and i also want to study in one
I dislike it being catholic because we have to join a bunch of religious events and everyone is strict about it

Honestly, I've been to many private schools, because of my father's frequent postings, and I loved every single one of them. It may sound snobby, but the public schools just can't provide the atmosphere that a private school does.
The last private school I attended was an all-girls partial boarding school, conforming to one of the toughest education boards in the country. It had originally been used to teach daughters of British Officers, but when my country gained independence, they left too. It had students from Thailand, UAE, and a handful of other countries. We would often have exchange students from South Africa, USA and UK, and it was very fun interacting with them.
The opportunities that a private school provides, are far more. I competed in international MUNs and debate competitions, thanks to the reach of my school.
God damn, I miss that school so freaking much

So I've been to private school my whole life, and it's always been decent and everybody is equal with one another, we respect each other, we play games, even do the gayest stuff with each other like hugging or sleeping on the floor of the classroom, and we don't even have a star section?! I never knew that still existed, I always thought it was just the same with other private schools out of my country... But reading this comment section, I guess not.

Well in India most children from middle class go to private schools. It's fees is 40 times of public/government schools but most middle class families can afford it. Sending your child to public/govt schools is seen deeming as only the lowest of class goes to public school here. Also because the conditions of almost all govt schools is worse than the standard of living.

used to go to a private school as my dad said it has better education and opportunities, to be fair, education and opportunities were better but it was imbalanced, no social life there. I was an outlasted as someone who came from public school, everyone was snobby. eventually I went back to public school, but I realised I have to put more effort in to match the education at private school

k as someone in private high school that went to public school their whole life before it, private school kids r so elitist. like, genuinely. everyone else in this comment section who’s been in the private system their entire life is saying that it’s all good, and while it’s definitely school-dependent, i do think this neglects what everyone else is saying. ofc the school experience is going to be “better”, that’s what you’re paying all the money for, but people do tend to be way more condescending too. obviously it isn’t fair to say that every single person that attends private school is elitist, but growing up in that type of environment can easily get to someone’s head.

  • @coversbykate
    @coversbykate Před rokem

Personally, I find private schools are much more secure and, of course, have more independence. Their funds are larger, allowing students to partake in activities most public school students could not. Sure, there is drama, but not more than at public schools. I suppose a lot of children are entitled, but that is to be expected for people receiving an education that relies on money. (Just based upon my experiences as a current private school student.)
