Hope you enjoy this one! Wanted to explain the two freight engines on the front of this year's Santa Train for those of you who may not know. On the trip North Friday evening CSX2 had trouble with its traction motors, rendering it useless, it quickly became apparent that CSX1 alone was not enough to handle the train coming up the Clinchfield. Two freight engines were cut off of South bound M653 and taken to assist pulling the OCS North into Shelby KY. Those same two engines were left on the train the following morning for the South bound trip as the Santa Train.

I Enjoyed your video. My wife and I saw it at St. Paul. Since I was not that familiar with the territory, we videoed the train there, including flying my drone. I have it on CZcams. Maybe next year I can catch it at other locations.

    I would’ve asked Amtrak to borrow a SC-ALC 42 charger or a P42DC instead of the GEVOs

They didn't have time. CSX 2 broke down on the trip up around 8pm the night before the run.

CSX 2 had trouble with its traction motors on the trip North the day before. CSX1 couldn’t handle the train alone with the grades that’s on that line so those two GEs were cut off a South bound freight to pull the OCS North into Shelby. The same two freight engines were left on for the trip South.

@@eastkentuckyrailfanA crewman also said the CSX1 had a bad speedometer.
