April 5, 2024 was a busy day for Big Sandy trains, unfortunately the weather kept the drone out of the air, and I had to film everything from the ground. Some good trains in this one and a couple locations I don't shoot that often. Coal and freight on the Big Sandy, plus a car runs the crossing gates in Prestonsburg

This one is a great collection of trains on the CSX Big Sandy Subdivision. This former C&O line still sees traffic well over 100 years after it was built. Trains on the CSX Big Sandy SD in the heart of East Kentucky's coal country. Big Sandy was built by the C&O to open up the regions coal and timber reserves to their rail network. Now over 100 years later this class 1 railroad is still moving down the rails of this line. Hope you enjoy the trains!

Also, I was lucky enough to see the Loram Rail Grinder as it left the Paintsville yard to head to Russell, KY. Shot this one on March 16, 2024 in Johnson and Pike Counties in Kentucky along the CSX Big Sandy SD. I grabbed the drone for some of the shots in this one. Freight, coal and MoW train, along with some C&O signals and a shot of the Shelby KY yard! Hope you enjoy this one!

I couldn't tell you how many times I've went to the parking lot of the Big Sandy Community College and watched trains. My early childhood home is across from the Hagerhill post office where the Dawkins crossed 1428. Thanks for posting!

Despite what was on the Big Sandy yesterday these are becoming more and more rare to see.

Up until a year or two ago.. Buffalo Tunnel sat across from where my Mamaw’s house used to be. Was recently demolished after being sold to the school next door.
With E402, I caught something similar to this - except it was all just a section of two bay covered hoppers tacked onto the rear of the only coal train - empty at that - of a six train weekend in 2022 where all I caught was nothing but manifests.
On this line at that.
Would be nice to see the US&S the signals to be knot down when train passes the signal changing signal from green to red .

I got CSX engines on my wallpaper on this device...think its the Rice yard.. hundreds of engines some of them still look pretty good.

Thanks again and all of your train movements are neat, Kentucky has some very beautiful mountains within those small communities. Hopefully, there's some locations where you can get an over-under shot (bridge over ground line) and post it. They're hard to sometimes come by, as always a groovy job!
Kenova WV is the closest place, I have one over under from there on the channel. Check it out!

At the signal bridge location
Why has the parrellel track been removed from this location ?
Down turn in coal has resulted in far fewer trains on this line. I assume CSX decided this (roughly 5 mile) section was no longer needed as double track. Several crossings in this area as well so trains never really met here anymore as CSX tries to avoid blocking crossings with stopped trains
Are all futures plans to restore the double track in the future ? Are all the signals on signal bridge still working ? Why we never see video of the green signal never been knot down as train passes under signal bridge
He apparently left his apartment without his medications without his stuff that he rides on and he was discharged from the ER and was still having issues so he rides up to our area when he takes the north track
Are you familiar with hobo shoestring? I'm sure you are given as much railroad videos.. he is apparently validated as missing. Go over to this channel that I list and watch this video.... This isn't spam this isn't something fake I just letting you know cuz the community needs to know this and spread this so people can look out for him
